  1. Got to love mary coyle's... I remember when I use to go and get the RCC shirts in highland square.. I'd stop in for ice cream..
  2. In my opinion. the Bengals are a kentucky team. they play a few hundred feet from the kentucky state line.. I know more bengals fans from NKY then in Ohio.. Ohio is mostly Cleveland fans.!. Just my opinion tho. But since my G/F is from cinci (colerain) she is a bengals fan.. so I have to watch them when I'm there... but I bleed Orange and Brown!!!!

It would be neat if the area utilized trains as a part of transport to the airport. Riding a train there and back to a station close to my house in Akron would save me money. I wouldnt have to spend a per day fee for my car to sit in a parking lot cuz it will be sitting in my driveway for free..
  5. Cleveland Browns: 2008 AFC North Champs .. sounds real good.!!.

I think that the rolling acres area would be better for like Firestone to move to. The rubber bowl could be a good spot but then again its not really close to a major traffic artery. I still think that spot at perkins would be great. driving on rt 8 south or the all american (y) bridge into downtown and see the stadium add to the skyline.. plus it be neat to see the soccer staduim at one exit then see the UA stadium at the on on rt 8..
  7. I'm glad to see some progress there. I Hardly ever went there cuz bums would hang out there alot and beg for change.. not that I'm opposed to helping bums.. but it got annoying.!!. hopefully that will stop once they rebuild and make it nice.

My personal opinion.. If Akron had a professional team in a sport that gets some national attenion on espn.. I would most def attend.. If it were in cleveland I would not even think about going. Its not just about soccer.. People in Akron love sports and would cheer on a mid-level profile pro team. Plus I have alot of friends who have children into soccer that live around Akron. One of the main sports for akron area youth is soccer. It would def be a lower level sport in the Cleveland area.. but would take Center stage in Akron. I think a great location would be on rt 8 right where all that vacant land is at the perkins st exit. they use to have apts there and a gas station if my memory is correct. That location is close to downtown and easy access from I76/77 and would even draw people south west of Akron like medina.. wooster.. Perhaps people would even drive up 71 from the Ashland area. What I'm saying is that it would draw more people in Akron than it would in Cleveland.!!.
  9. I always ran into bums in Cincinnati... on Colerain Ave down by the ghetto gas station at the bottom of the hill and also colerain ave at 275.. I generally give them change.. sometimes.. unles I'm in the mood for a little fun.. like we use to do back in the day when I was a brat.. throw things at them.. such as eggs in the face when they come over to the car for change.. .. man I use to be a meanie.. things you do in your youth
  10. To be truthful.. I've driven past the crew stadium and have never thought about seeing a game there.. drove past it last weekend and seen there doing an addition or something..
  11. This should be a good year for Cleveland sports once again... Browns rule and Nati sucks so I'm happy..
  12. I went there with a buddy of mine within the first few weeks of opening.. Its a pretty good place to go with a church youth group or even a juvenile date.. But I did think the price is alittle on the steep side.. good thing we had free vip passes.!.

hmmm.. You can never be sure.. You get a description of a 5 foot 3 inch blonde with a gorgous figure and she turns out to be a 3 foot 5 inch midget with george's (from seinfeld)figure. .. gots to be careful..
  14. Greystone is caddy cornered from the Library and across the street from J.S.K center. Its beautiful on the inside.. that would make a great banquet hall for a new hotel. Oh and I was downtown today and could not find a parking spot. Parking is crazy in Downtown Akron.
  15. A tear comes out of my left eye - Beautiful.!!!. Its going to really perk up around 2012 after the U/A Stadium is done and the Goodyear area starts booming. Plus theres other key downtown developments that will be going up as well. I really hope they can attract good restaurants to Akron in the near future such as Hooters, and a Dave & Busters would really be nice. I'm not a fan of going out to Montrose or Chapel Hill all the time to eat out.
  16. OK so I was skimming through some sites and come across the words Akron Arena. So I had to check it out. It comes direct from the Osborn Architects and engineers website www.osborn-eng.com According to the drawings on the website, it will be built right next to the Mayflower building across from Canal Park. The arena part will be where there is now a surface level parking lot. I hope this project does come to fruition. It would be a major plus for northeastern Ohio as a whole. :-D The City of Akron has a unique opportunity to build a combined arena and retail complex. The nature of this complex would allow it be built in separate phases (retail mall and arena) or together creating an immediate synergy between the two. The arena would seat roughly 10,000 (±) patrons and feature approximately 26 private suites situated below the main concourse level. The retail mall would have the flexibility to provide storefronts on both Main and High Streets while remaining inwardly open to the arcade/atrium space. This scheme provides for a flexible number of office and/or residential levels above the two level mall/atrium. The aesthetics would be sympathetic to Canal Park, in that red brick would be the predominant material, thereby reinforcing the extension of the Sports/Entertainment district. The large expanses of glass in the form of storefronts and arena curtainwall, allows the color, activity, and energy of each space to extend to the street. The curved upper roof and clerestory of the arena provides a dynamic signature element and allows natural light to enter the main seating area. At night this structure will glow and act as a beacon for evening events. Lastly, the combined facility will present an impressive and dynamic landmark. By infilling the two city blocks that this project encompasses, a link is created between the lower South Main Street and the emerging retail district. This complex becomes a “partner” to Canal Park and completes this Sports/Entertainment district.
  17. With the U of A taking over the Crown Plaza there is mass speculation that soon there will be a new hotel built in Downtown Akron to take its place. From AkronNewNow.com It's only a matter of time before a new hotel comes to downtown Akron. Akron News Now has learned there has been a lot of interest from developers in building a second hotel. Greater Akron Chamber of Commerce President Dan Colantone says his office and the city of Akron have been getting a number of phone calls and inquiries from interested developers. He expects an announcement in the not too distant future from the city and a hotel developer. One prime piece of property that's sparked a lot of interest is the parking area for Greystone Hall downtown. Greystone owner Jeffrey O'Neil says he wants to preserve the historic building if he sells it, but a new hotel could incorporate the current structure as part of a hotel complex. Colantone calls Greystone a landmark and a prime piece of property and he's sure there's a lot of interest in what that property will look like or how it will be developed in the future. Akron city officials have declined to comment on inquiries they may have received about developing a new downtown hotel. Downtown Akron will lose the Crowne Plaza as a public hotel in another year after the University of Akron purchased the Quaker Square complex to be utilized as dorm rooms and meeting space.
