  1. Not a fan of the design. But glad to see a residential building going up again.
  2. So is the mayors plan for a hotel next to the convention center dead? I nice 8-12 story building would fit great in the parking areas between the knight center and the art museum. Add another level to the high street parking deck and you take care of parking basically
  3. I was told that Rolling Acres finally sold this past week to a developer out of Cali to become a mixed use center.
  4. I told a friend of mine who is a die hard bengals fan that they were going to be one of the leagues worst teams back in the preseason. He said no way with Palmer, Cinco, and TO. I said history repeats itself. The bengals suck after a good year. The bengals lose consistantly when Palmer throws for over 400yds. I'm suprised those 2 recievers can be on the same team. Chad Ochostinko may want traded to a team that can win so you may get a 3rd rounder out of him. Marvin lewis may want to resign. Cleveland will be in the running to win the division next season. You bengal fans better get use to hearing the term we Browns fans heard for awhile. "Rebuilding."

I just read it. I actually shed a tear or two at the end. "for everyone who ever loved something that didn't love them back" Just brilliant. Although, I thought he was talking about my neighbor when he said "The whore from Akron"
  6. Colt McCoy is def a gamer and the type of QB the browns have needed for awhile. This is a learning year.. Can't wait to see him after experience and with a play making reciever..
  7. Interesting... I dont see it at lock 3 though. I've heard rumors of reviving it at the cascade plaza but that probly wont happen.
  8. Its coming along nicely...
  9. It was from years ago when they were planning an Imax and an aquiriam there. This plan has been scrapped.
  10. we got a 100yd rusher against baltimore... bright spot..
  11. What is the source? I would have thought Cbus would be higher,Cleveland and Akron to be lower, and didnt expect canton to be around 80K.
  12. I was talking to a co-worker yesterday about Akron and Cleveland. He didnt know why Akron seems to have a ton of construction going on. He asked me if Akron was building to get back the personal identity the city once had back when it was "rubber capitol." He said He goes up to Cleveland 2X/mth to go places but He's bored with it and started asking me if I'd been to pittsburgh. On what he said, I do believe Akron is trying to regroup on a new identity and I think the University is going to have a major play in it.
  13. I'm just curious where the current trend is of where NEO students go to college at. I know Kent St. and UA are growing. Cleve St. has about half enrollment of UA and the same could be said in regards to CSU as related to Kent St. Or are there more going to the areas private institutions?
  14. I have no steam to let off.. I dont associate with Cleveland other than sports. Simple as that. I dont feel a connectivity. Akron has its own identity. The older generations may have a different view on this though.
  15. I live in Akron. Only associate myself with Cleveland sports, mainly the Browns. I've only been to Cleveland 3 times yet I do alot of traveling. There isnt enough draw in Cleveland for me to go there. I've been to Pittsburgh the same amount of times as Cleveland and I'd prefer Pburgh. (Better looking downtown if you ask me) I went to College in Canton and Cincinnati. Most of my travels are back to the Cincinnati area due to the fact of knowing people and places. I really have no reason to drive to Cleveland other than for an event. (And it has to be a big event) Akron is a great city. Although crime is going up, Akron is relatively safe. It has cultural attractions of its own and will be picking up more in the future. I believe that Cleveland will lose population and Akron will gain population in the future. Cleveland just does not draw me on any level. Although I will be appearing for a Browns game this season!
  16. sure. I will try to abstain from improper citation. Not proper I suppose.
  17. If they would let me I'd grab a shovel and start burying rt 59 myself. Not much of a fan of using the interchange between 7am to 9 am or 4pm to 6pm. It is easier to get off at perkins sometimes and get on mlk.. now if only when I did that I wouldnt have to stop.. hmm
  18. I'm wondering how attendance will be this year now it the stadium is not new. The only great show outs last season was the opener and the Kent game. I believe total for the season it drew around 106,000. I'll be going toa game or two perhaps.. havnt been there yet.
  19. Wow..I like this. I like the whole walkway up the hill. Could become a community gathering place. Does anyone know what the red buildings are? Retail or apartments? Or even a hotel that I've heard about. There are houses, an auto repair shop, a bar, a family dollar and a used car dealer there as of right now. Looks like they may be gutting that lil area there.
  20. Towpath Trail gets a boost State funds to link route with Northside Station. By Bob Downing Beacon Journal staff writer Published on Sunday, Aug 22, 2010 Akron is getting $173,186 in state funds to connect the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail and the Northside Station. The money will be used to acquire 2.9 acres and build an 1,100-foot asphalt-paved trail between the rail station for the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad and the Beech Street Trailhead just north of downtown Akron. READ MORE AT: http://www.ohio.com/news/101247069.html This addition is just a few hundred feet south of the Cascade mills site towrds DT Akron.
  21. Wherever it gets put I hope the city builds around it and creates an arena district.
  22. With the shops and the hotels that will be going in this area it would be good to give people the option of rail. But it does need to be a DT Akron to Goodyear connection. The people staying at those will be executives and the likes. Goodyear buys tickets for events in DT for its "special" visitors and a train ride toa show and dinner and train ride back would be pretty neat rather than the ole car and driver or shuttle.
  23. I second that! JamesM, this had better not be mere speculation! How dare you get us so pumped! ;) I cannot list my source but I can say I trust the information He says to me in our conversations. But yes an Arena is in the mix for the future (as in 5-10 yrs). UA wants it to hold more than just UA sports. Rather it become a venue for national acts that would draw people. I'm told they dont want a huge crowd of non-students in the middle of campus so they are looking for something on the edge of campus. My opinoin is that it will be on Grant st due to the fact that it has direct access to a major throughway (I-76) and has plenty of older biuldings that I'm sure the current tenants wouldnt mind selling to get better facilities. There are already 2 office buildings on Grant with for sale signs up right next to each other. I'd like to see a parking garage where the nasty looking ABJ docks are at with a walkbridge from it going over to grant st to an open air sculpture park across thest from the arena.
  24. Nice.. It will have a street front then.. I will visit alot!
  25. Thanks for clearing up the confusion. Its quite nice. I do remember seeing a video a few years back about Akron's future expectations/plans but they were mostly for the downtown area. To get back on topic, I have only seen a zonemap of what the Goodyear project is. I have not seen any building layouts/designs yet. I would love to see some. Too bad Bass Pro decided to not participate in this project. I would love to have one in or near Akron.
