Living Car Free
I ditched my car back in June. It's a little bit hard for me since I currently live in a small town in Wisconsin, but it's definitely been a good choice. I work 9.5 miles away from my apartment in the town to the west, and go to school 13 miles away in the next town to the south. I've been biking every day and I'm loving it. In the last ten weeks I've lost more than 20 pounds and have enjoyed the fact that I only had to fill up my car one time this summer. I graduate in May and plan on biking every day from now until then that there isn't snow all over the place.

Today, I Overheard Someone in my City Say...
I didn't exactly overhear this, but I thought it was worth sharing anyways. My 54 year old mother called me this afternoon and told me that she just got back from a meeting in Downtown Cleveland. She was born and raised in Cleveland, lives in Old Brooklyn, and works in Strongsville. She has not been Downtown in more than a decade and has always considered it dirty, unsafe, and void of life. She told me that she was so impressed by all the activity and streetlife that she decided to go for a walk. She said that she felt safe and very comfortable, and that she enjoyed lunch on East 4th St with a coworker. She was so impressed that she is planning on taking my father there this weekend. According to her, "Downtown is completely different than the last time I was there. It's safe and clean, there are tons of places to go, and there are people everywhere! I'm definitely going to start going there on a regular basis again." You gotta love hearing someone's perception change on the city you love.

X-Files
I just saw the movie last night. I used to be a huge fan and I had all of the seasons on dvd until someone stole them from me. :x I had mixed feelings about the movie. I definitely don't believe that it was a great movie, but it was good. It just didn't seem to have that same X-Files feel to it that I was expecting. I'd give it a 5 out of 10, but I'll probably end up buying it just to have it in my collection like every other die hard fan.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Beacon
^LMAO! Hopefully sometime before I die.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Beacon
Now that's a much better argument than what's been being posted here. I agree with RyanScav...for now. We'll see what happens as more information comes out, but at this piont I don't see any indication that these people are starting a coffee house to tell their customers that they are all going to hell. For the information that we have right now, that seems like a pretty good way to sum it up.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Beacon
Exactly. "I don't like Christians" is not a reason. If it were just a regular coffee house, I think there'd be a different reaction here. I feel the same way. If you don't want to have a cafe there, then that's your opinion, but this might help to infuse more life into the area. I don't think it makes sense to shut it down just yet. It might end up being a good thing. I agree with MTS in this case. We just don't know enough to put it down yet.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Beacon
^That's exactly what I'm saying, MTS. Don't get upset about it just because it has something to do with a church. We don't have any details at all yet, and you have no idea what it will be like. Clvlndr, it might interest you to know that there used to be a similar type of establishment in Old Brooklyn on Pearl Road about seven or eight years ago. The place would have live performances by local musicians a couple of nights a week (and no, they were not just a bunch of Christian bands, they were just talented local musicians that played while people were drinking coffee). It was actually an alright place and brought a lot of people out from the neighborhood. I'm giving it a chance in case it becomes something like that. At no point did anyone say that they plan on opening this up to only Christians and discriminating against others. It's not a matter of who is or is not spiritual. It is a matter of us not having hardly any information and people already saying that it is bad news because they read the word "church" in there. As I said before, that doesn't even make sense. Just wait for more information before saying it's terrible.

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
My school just completed a new dorm that is rather long and has 350 beds. It is 5 stories tall. Depending on the layout of the buildings, there's a chance we might see something decently sized. It definitely wouldn't be 10 stories, but we could end up with a small group of decent size buildings there.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Beacon
I know of another church which I used to attend in the Cleveland area that has long held a similar vision. They basically want to create a niche for themselves in the community, not scream at people and insult them. I think some of us may be letting a negative bias for religion impede our views of this project. A cafe could create a cool spot in the neighborhood that would help bring even more life to the area. Let's at least wait to hear more about the plans before knocking it out of a distaste for Christianity. That doesn't even make sense.

Speeding Tickets
That's actually a really good point. I got the mix right from sitting in traffic jams in Chicago. Once I figured out how to travel stop and go at 5 mph without jerking or revving the engine, I found that I was able to drive properly at any speed.

Speeding Tickets
It sounds like you are just a little bit off in your timing with releasing the clutch. You are either letting it off too early and causing your car to jerk, or you are letting it off way too late and driving up the rpms. You should drive around with someone you know who is very good at driving manual and have them coach you so that you can get the timing right.

Judges are very lenient depending on how you talk to them. I once fell asleep behind the wheel when I was 17 and caused a lot of damage. I almost got my license suspended, but after I went to court dressed professionally and spoke to the judge respectfully I actually got away with only 2 points and a $25 fine.

Where is the best place to get pizza?
For Cleveland, I like Pizza Joe's. It's on the corner of Memphis and Fulton in that butt-ugly plaza. It's so good and greasy you can actually feel your heart clogging as you eat it. :-) But the best pizza comes from Lou Malnati's in Chicago. It may not be in Ohio, but it's on N Wells St a couple of blocks over from Ohio St, so it's sort of related to Ohio pizza.

CLEVELAND - Taste of Tremont 2008
I actually went to high school with this kid and haven't talked to him in about six years. Crazy small world. And after seeing him in that pic, you should continue that practice! Now that's just mean...and funny!

Cleveland AST Dew tour (NorthCoast Harbor)
Increase DT population. Maybe we could start by putting some condo buildings over by St. Clair and E 12th, converting a bunch of older buildings on Euclid into apartments and condos, and putting a bunch of housing in the Flats and Warehouse District. :-D

Cleveland: Old Brooklyn's Commercial Corridors, Part I
It's good to see pictures of my old neighborhood again. It really makes me long for Cleveland. Nice set, cd! I actually got into a car accident on this corner once...not my best night.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
Cheaper does not mean better. Put it above ground and you will have an ugly, bulky building that would cover that entire area instead of a beautiful mall that can be used by residents and workers Downtown. Cleveland should not have to settle for a half-@ssed job. We've done enough of that in the past and it's time to demand better.

Where is Home?
^Yeah, that place is a couple of blocks from my apartment. I've actually never been there because I hate sea food.

Where is Home?
After CornerCurve mentioned this in another thread I thought I'd pull an MTS and bump this one for us "newbies." Raised in Cleveland (Old Brooklyn) living in Port Washington, WI.

Cleveland: Industry, Steel Mills, and More
I grew up one street over from Harmody park. I used to drive over that bridge all the time and admire the view. It's pretty nice going down the hill, but the view from that bridge is simply breathtaking at sunset.
