  1. As I say, I get this from a good friend who lives on that street. They've been talking to the entire street for a year now, and they want to buy all of the houses there to make room for more retail development. It's still in very early stages, but they said they're willing to nearly twice what the properties are worth to get a hold on the entire block. I'm really not happy with the information that he is giving me. The city won't tell him exactly what they're thinking of building, but Sam's Club was thrown out as a possibility at one point. The area that they're looking at is directly across from the Target on W 117th, and would extend several blocks back along Western. The whole thing hinges on whether or not the Target continues to do well and how well the Giant Eagle does once it is open.
  2. I have a friend who lives in a house on W 116th behind that Citgo. The city began talks with him and the rest of his street about a year ago concerning the possible expansion of retail along that area. He was told that if things go well at target that developers will be building over his house. I don't know exactly what they have planned for the area, but he said that they have even started talking numbers recently.
  3. ^I think it's very good to have that kind of fighting attitude. After all, Cleveland has had to put up with too much crap being built within its limits over the years. I'm just wondering if it is already too late. I don't mean to challenge anybody here, but is there realistically anything we can do at this point to make a real change or are we going to have to just sit back and take this thing like we have everything else? It seems to me like they are already too close to start all over again from step one.
  4. Ridiculous. I have some relatives that live in Old Brooklyn, and they have no problem with it. But I guess that's just because they are not a bunch of ignorant idiots. Oh, no! Look at all the scary black people...I'd better move away to the suburbs before they start to corrupt my children and make them do drugs! (complete sarcasm) Please grow up. And if you can't grow up, then try building a time machine and going back to a period where people were actually as ignorant as you are. If nothing else, stop posting stupid stuff here and try your hand at Cleveland.com. You'll fit in very well there.
  5. ^It seems like all I hear even in Milwaukee's media is about how Cleveland is so terrible. It just ticks me off. Like you said, MTS, there's plenty of other cities around the country that are just as bad off as we are. It's hard for me to understand how everyone in Milwaukee "knows" that Cleveland is just so much worse than every other city in America. You may be right about Cleveland being a city on the rise, but the reports I hear just seem to be going WAY out of their way to blow the whole thing out of proportion.
  6. I seriously am getting sick and tired of hearing the media constantly ripping on Cleveland for this. I've got a friend that helps people in Detroit who are losing their homes because of the housing crisis. He has family that lives in Cleveland and visits them often, and he has told me numerous times that he feels Detroit is just as bad, maybe even worse. I know that it's a real problem, but it is still frustrating to hear the media talking about Cleveland so much.
  7. The Cleveland Clinic never ceases to amaze me. They can't take one step forward without taking two steps back.
  8. Very true, KJP. It think we all know (with the possible exception of oengus1963) that those aren't going to be parking lots forever. That's prime real estate, and there is no doubt that they will eventually be developed as Cleveland draws more businesses to Downtown. I just was kind of hoping that it would be sooner rather than later.
  9. Ugh. What an ugly design. I live in Milwaukee and I like to brag to my friends about how Cleveland is such a better city, but how can I brag about something like that? I don't know, but that design is a real let down to me.
  10. How's it going, everyone? I'm new to posting, but I've been checking the posts daily for a while now. My Two Sense, I think you're probably right. Most of us are being too premature with the attacks on the FEB, but I don't think this is because anybody actually believes that it's a bad development. Most, like me, are probably just upset over the idea that we might be doing the FEB rather than Pesht, when we could've easily done both. If I had to choose between the two, I'd take Pesht over the FEB. BOTH will help downtown, but I believe that Stark would've really taken the already thriving Warehouse District and finally develop it to its full potential. Let's stop speculating and just hope that Stark will be able to find another tenant. It's not over until Stark says it is. He might have some cards up his sleeve yet.
