East Cleveland: Development and News
Given that its East Cleveland and that there are so many other open plots of land within say five miles not in E Cleveland, who in their right mind would buy it unless its a crazy good deal?

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
That was a joke. I see there is no sense of humor when it comes to Bibb. He's like Trump to the Trumpists, I know. And there are many on this board. But, for some reason, Boomerang_Brian KNOWS Bibb is all that and he's heaven-sent, even though he shown otherwise in his past around RTA management.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
The job of the board members is to oversee the GM, pure and simple. If the head of the board is blind or corrupt, a skillful board member (any board member) would have found a way to find resolution. Sounds like you're saying all the board members under the powerful might corrupt fist of Dixon were pointless or incompetent--which would mean Bibb was too. I did not mean to single out Bibb over other board members, was just responding to a post above to say that we should not expect brilliance from Bibb around RTA management given his past. But who knows, maybe he'll pleasantly surprise us, but probably best not to hold your breath.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Spoken like a pure Trumpist. Trump is saving 'Merica and can and has done no wrong. The truth is we have yet to see how Bibb will be. He's done nothing before entering office of any positive consequence for Cleveland so we have to wait and see. But for you, you're suggesting, Bibb, with four weeks in office, is a godsend and fully capable and able to fix Cleveland, though we have no evidence of such. So what is the truth? You can see the future and its glorious? Are you his chief of staff, lover, friend, mother, or something, and biased to his greatness no matter what he does? Why? We need time to see how he does, that's the truth.

Did you forget Bibb was an RTA Board Member? He actually could have made a difference back then if he knew anything about transit.

Cleveland Planning Commission
This post is more about city planning vs the city planning commission but I couldn't find just a city planning thread. (Feel free to move if need be.) Article on the equity between cities. Also, this is by a local planner so unless I'm missing something she should know the difference between Lyndhurst (which is what I think she means) and Linndale (which she spelled, "Lynndale"): "In metro Cleveland for example, there is a 24-year difference in life expectancy between the suburb of Lynndale and the Cleveland neighborhood of Hough, a few miles away...." But overall, her point is about geographic equity between municipalities---Cleveland vs. East Cleveland vs. SF or Seattle. https://www.planetizen.com/features/116088-considering-geographic-equity

Dallas-Fort Worth: Developments and News
So their Downtown didn't just expand and there's no walking continuity between the old and new? I haven't been there in years--and when I had been there the five or so times I thought it was quite a horrible place. I was happy never to have to go back there.

Cleveland: University Circle: Circle Square
I never understood why this library and apt bldg were to be built as two different projects. Why not juts build a residential bldg and plan (and design) for the first two floors--which may have higher ceilings--to be a library, just as an office bldg plans for a lobby and retail on its first floor? The library could have a 100-year lease in the bldg or if CPL must own it, a joint ownership of the structure could be created where one party owns floors 1-2 and other owns 3 to whatever.

Lorain County: Development and News
Who's driving this? Is the Navy looking for a location or is a private sub-building company saying, hey, we need a new location and it should be Lorain?

That's good. I ate at Bar Louie once and was highly unimpressed. Never went back and not surprised it had closed.

Cleveland: Downtown: 45 Erieview Conversion
@KJPGreat article as always, thanks. What kind of museum is slated for the Centennial? Also, from your article, I thought this was funny: "The 45 Erieview property is in the Erieview Historic District, as declared one year ago by the U.S. Department of the Interior. The historic district is bounded by Lakeside and Chester avenues plus East 9th and East 12th Streets." I get the logic to be able to seek historic tax credits, but especially given the destruction of the area that is "Erieview" including the cinema and all the old buildings during "slum clearance", there is little "historic" about this "historic district".

Cleveland: Port Authority News & Info
@Luke_S why downvote my post? Everything I said is true---and if you're gonna go public with a big claim and you're a public agency---also show the numbers used to make that claim. This is barely scratching the surface of public accountability of government agencies. Why would you be against that?
-
Cleveland: Port Authority News & Info
Thanks Luke. I looked on the Port Authority's website for data---like you find on other port authority's webpages--but nope. So the port authority HAS 2020 and 2021 numbers but we have to use outdated Federal numbers that only go as far as 2019. So without knowing the numbers from 2020, 2014, 2013, and 2012 (to understand the "10-year" span), all we know is 2021 is somewhere between 13,697,162 (if 2015 is the max and not 2014...) and 13,314,224 (2017 -- min). But the minimum COULD be higher, if e.g., 2014 was 13,697,100.

Cleveland: Port Authority News & Info
It doesn't matter. Then just swap out 2019 and 2015 in my numbers. My point is still the same. my point is a "69%" increase from 2020 means NOTHING without context. 69% increase from 2020 could still be a 2% increase from 2019 and a 3% increase from 2018. Why not just show real numbers? The Plain Dealer may not have the competent reporters anymore (all been fired) to ask the right questions, but it doesn't mean that all the people in mass public are idiots and will not understand that 69% in an of itself means nothing. To me, this makes the Port Authority look worse than if they said nothing at all. (Also---if you're talking about a data point for only general cargo---you can't compare that (2015) to general cargo + containerized cargo and I think the 2021 number is supposed to be all cargo, not just general cargo. apples to apples w/ oranges.)

^Cool. Thank you. For the taller Bedrock bldg, how many stories/feet were you assuming?

Cleveland: Port Authority News & Info
^A simple graph--or just raw numbers--of 10 years of data would do wonders than such vague "statistics". For example, such claims would be accurate under the following scenario with a 1% increase over 2019. Why not just release real numbers? 2021 - 90 tons (Giant jump from 2020!!!!!---69%!!!!--and second highest in ten years!) 20- 46 tons 19 - 91 (highest in ten years!!! higher than 2021) 18 - 88 17 - 88 16 - 87 15- 87 14- 86 13 - 85 12 - 84

How does 2021 compare to 2019? If the shipping industry is anything like the airlines, its easier than hell to beat 2020 numbers. We must look at a pre-covid year for a basis of comparison.

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
this was interesting: "Cedar Fair rejected a takeover offer of $4 billion, or about $70 per share, from larger peer Six Flags Entertainment Corp in 2019, saying the bid was too low." Sea World's bid is even lower. Maybe Cedar Fair is struggling (covid?) and Sea World knows it? Otherwise why come in lower?
