  1. ^even for an office bldg, that's a strange building with very little window space.

^not familiar with the show. Does it pit one neighborhood against another?
  3. whats the different between Whole Foods and 365--is 365 a mini version?
  4. ^Or....how about the May Company Building?!? Its less crazy than it may seem---especially if there's high end retail at Tower City (from the Tower City thread) and at Nucleus. Downtown could again be a major center of shopping (I didn't want to say 'shopping center!').

mu2010: my thoughts are go for it. you're interested enough to be posting here all these years plus even applied to planning schools. unless, of course, you're getting cold feet and posing the question here looking for a way out, for people to say, 'no, don't do it.' I say, if your heart is in it, go for it. The money will come, you can always make that work. Pay at first may be low but over time will increase. You could also do accounting work on the side if need be, say people's and companies' taxes/accounting if you need to supplement your income in the first few years. Or, as some folks here have suggested, you could leverage your accounting background into your planning field. Or just plan for lesser funds in the first few years and pour your heart into it. If, 5,6,7 years from now, you find you've made a mistake or don't like, you can always go back to accounting---and with the planning/public perspective to add to your quals--or try something new. Leaving the safety of what we know can be scary, but its also exciting. I say, go for the planning degree! (Hope this helps.)

$170k is a big severance for a town like Painesville. What was his annual pay?
  7. The cleveland map above are 'statistical planning areas' (SPA) and not necessarily neighborhoods. "Little Italy" is definitely a neighborhood, but not a SPA. It is wholly within "University". There is no neighborhood called "University". THere is a "University Circle" and the boundaries of that are different than "University" above, though "University Circle" lies within "University", along with other streets that are not part of "University Circle." "Downtown" is certainly a place, yet in the map above, several neighborhoods are inside of "Downtown", such as "Warehouse District", "Gateway", "Chinatown", "AsiaTown". I also wouldn't consider Hopkins Airport in "Riverside"..... to summarize the map above is not a neighborhood map of the city.

The ferry would carry passengers and freight. Thus all those trucks coming up I-71 from Cinci and Columbus and up 77 and from perhaps even PIT/Youngstown, all could use the ferry, which would take THOUSANDS of trucks off the highways like I-90 between Downtown CLE and Buffalo or between Downtown CLE and Detroit. And yes, the ferry could take passengers as well, with or without a car. The ferry is a great idea, not only for air quality and less highway wear and tear and improved safety, but would be a major economic booster for Cleveland.
  9. I truly hope E. 105 remains "E. 105". But regarding the new street---connecting E. 55 and E. 105---which is conceptually "Opportunity Corridor" is there an official name yet as to what that street will be called? Hopefully nothing corny like "Opportunity Avenue."
  10. ^Ugh! what's with that suburban campus?!? And are they renaming 105 st. as "Opportunity Corridor" here? Sounds soooo stupid. Its a north-south roadway here that intersects with avenues, thus it should be ______ STREET---and in this case, it should be E. 105 St.

Overall good, but they misnamed/mislabled the city's most famous building, calling it the "Tower City Center Building"

^Don's Lighthouse Inn was a hotel. The bldg still stands--its right at Edgewater Park at the corner of Clifton and Lake.
  19. ^Why is Chick-fil-A so good/desired? I had them a bite-size piece of their chicken once (that was at a catered event) and thought it was pretty bad for fast-food chicken. Was it a blah piece of chicken or is that how it always is? I don't understand the enthusiasm. If it were a chipotle or a panera, I'd get it. But a chick-fil-A?
  20. You mean someone from Maple Hts or Medina or Willoughby would intrinsically be better? Its not the City that can't run the airport---its that the mayor installs incompetent people. A More effective + more visionary mayor would result in a better choice for leadership and growth of the airports. THAT'S the problem---not that its run by the city.
  21. ^^^ Re the 501-1000 list, which companies?
  22. I thought Superior was to go UNDER the square. If it bisects, what's the point? If this is true, why would spend so much money on a stupid design to doesn't do much from the existing concept?
