Cleveland: Warehouse District: Development and News
I heard there was a moratorium on construction til after the RNC. I hope though that this is not true. The city---on the world stage---would look a lot more vibrant with cranes and constructions everywhere than no construction activity and flat, surface parking everywhere downtown.

IKEA - Cleveland
Interesting---can't find any info on the Army Corps or Ohio EPA on the IKEA issue--and its been a while---I thought the Army Corp had 90 days to respond and that was a long time ago. I'm also trying to follow this story. KJP may be able to dig something up---he's really good at it!

^yes, the lake is very spoooky. From the article: "It's a great year to take in the sights along the Cuyahoga River or explore the beaches of Lake Eerie while enjoying this friendly and accessible city."

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
Are you suggesting we have self-cleaning runways and taxiways? My entire point was that it is the 'human' elements that are issues more so than the facility. "Running the airport" is a human thing. Not a bldg thing. In any event, I was responding to a comment above about how 'everyone' hates Hopkins and specifically the comments that were made on this board. It wasn't addressing the overall issues or non-issues at CLE.

Ate at Bomba the other day--a new taco place in Rocky River. Wanted to say here---it was a very good. Had a few different tacos---from duck to shrimp to brisket. All was delicious. Good drinks as well. (I have no financial or other interest in the place--this a true review!)

Cleveland: Downtown: Drury Plaza Hotel Development
I too wished the bldg ended up with a better, higher end chain. However, if it does fail, providing irreversible damage wasn't done, a St. Regis, Penisula, Le Meridien, etc. can still come in later.

^That's great to hear. I hope its true and not scaled back in any way. we need the height, density, and variety of uses!

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
Not sure why Cleveland was on the list. For a "major transportation infrastructure project" which contains a whole new subway line in NYC, the re-making of Public Square hardly compares. Whether or not the project is a good one is a another matter. In any event the new I-90 innerbelt bridge is certainly a much larger transportation infrastructure project than Public Square. (and, as an aside, I found PS perfectly walkable--I'm not sure I understand why people are saying it wasn't. Pigeons? People? Crime? I never experienced any crime on the Square and have walked through it hundreds of times.)

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
^As a facility---except for immigration--it gets the job done. The recent complaints here on human/airport management things like stupid assemblages of people to greet arriving folks randomly and on handwritten signs--both which make us look like amateurs and small townish---not quite a major global or American city. I don't hate Hopkins by any means, just actions taken (whether by Airport administration or the CCVB) which undermine us as a city.

I certainly hope that at least some of the bldgs are 1-4 br condos. I would likely buy one. But I wouldn't spend $20k-$30k/year in rent. I know condos are harder to finance than apartments. However there is an entire market segment that is excluded by not having condos.- Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad
