Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
We have yet to see more than 2 straight months of employment over 1M. The unemployment rate is low, but comparing April to Sept---less people are in the labor pool and less people are employed, so even though "unemployed" people went from 55,000 to 50,000 (Apr to Sept), its not really a good thing, as the number of employed people from apr to sept dropped by 10,000. And this is after two straight months of hitting the 1M mark--the first time since Nov 2008 (when we were always above 1M)--we just fell below it. I hope the Sept numbers which are preliminary are later adjusted over 1M. Though, for CLE, the Aug to Sept drop is typically around 10,000 workers. I just noticed that August preliminary has been adjust upward a little bit. Now showing 1,003,600 (rounded to the nearest 100). Preliminary number was 1,002,940---so around 700 people.

Cleveland: Downtown: nuCLEus
^No one is saying that in exchange for tall buildings we'll take vacant lots in between. We're only saying we should want 50+ story bldgs and should not compromise for a short, squat city of 20-30 story bldgs. Of course--IN ADDITION to having 500'+ bldgs, we want a constant street wall of bldgs and activity and not isolated towers separated by nothingness. If the space between the tall skyscrapers are filled with 20-30 story bldgs, that's great. But a city with three towers and the remainder as Justice Center-height bldgs is not a goal we should be shooting for to be a grand city.

Cleveland: Downtown: Jack Cleveland Casino - Phase 2
I don't care who owns the casino downtown, but I truly hope the stupid "Horseshoe" name gets taken out of Cleveland. Its a word that brings "Texas" or the "West" to mind--and is very non-Cleveland.

Cleveland: Downtown Office Buildings Updates
^"rattle" sounds bad, but in reading the article, the author suggests that new and broader ownership is good.

^the only way you'll get the density of high rises is to have a bunch of them. so this would be our 4th...and eventually we'll see a 5th, 6th, 7th, etc. But we won't if we instead push for your wish: We need more--not less--tall bldgs....if anything even one more would balance out the other three.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
^I was in there once. It seemed awful, I agree. However, as a city, we need places like that Downtown---seems like almost everything now is expensive and trendy---no 'awful' or shady places which add character to the city.

Cleveland: Downtown: Justice Center Complex Replacement
The county and city jails should be put somewhere near Orange Ave or so (though the core downtown population numbers would take a big hit!). The County Courts should remain somewhere near public square to be near the other court houses (Lakeside, US, etc.). A small detention center should be built within for people on trial who are not free to leave (but not yet convicted, thus not in 'jail'). The new court tower could include Cleveland PD HQ (as is this the case now), or the CLE PD could very well be a separate place.... NYC's is at "1 Police Plaza". CPD is prominent enough of an institution that I'd prefer it to have its own tower and building somewhere Downtown, and not get roped into a county facility.

That's too bad. Ken Stewarts is a quality place. However, the new place seems to stress its affordability as a 'regular' place. That is something that is very needed in the new Flats East Bank---a regular neighborhood kindof place, not just fancy, pricier places.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
^not sure what article you're referring to, but there is no CLE-CHS service. At least not currently. EDIT--just re-read your post and noticed the word "direct" (which is not necessarily non-stop.). There are no NON-STOP flights between CLE and Charleston. There could be a 'direct' flight (Like CLE-ATL-CHS on DL), but likely not.

^ "The operation will service a new Sedgwick client, the Avis Budget Group car rental company." This is a gain if the company previously serving Avis is not in Cleveland AND letting people go as a result.

Uggggh.... FirstMerit Corporation to acquire naming rights to Cleveland Convention Center http://www.cleveland.com/cuyahoga-county/index.ssf/2015/09/first_merit_secures_naming_rights_to_cleveland_convention_center.html- Cleveland: Downtown Office Buildings Updates
^^I dont' quite get that article. The title and article says the company IS opening its HQ in Downtown Pittsburgh and also looking at other cities. "....About 100 employees will move to U.S. Steel Tower in the next couple months, Mr. Newlin said....The company is considering Cleveland; Charlotte, N.C.; and Pittsburgh, according to a source close to the negotiations." sounds more like a done deal to stay in the Pittsburgh area, but a sad attempt to try to get some cash from PA or where-ever under a poor threat to move out of state (despite having signed a lease already in Downtown Pittsburgh....)....- Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
I wouldn't say i'm affluent, but if there were 3-bedroom units, i'd certainly consider it. And i'm sure I'm not the only person out there.- Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
^just 1 and 2 bedrooms? Typical. If you want to build a neighborhood, some units need more than 2 bedrooms. Lots of households use more than 2 bedrooms---especially families that have more than one child, which is pretty common. (MOST people I know who have offspring have more than one child)..... so such projects--and many like them---preclude a huge segment of the market because they don't have any 3-bedroom units.- Cleveland Rapid Rail Construction Projects (Non-Service Issues)
^thanks KJP for the clarification. One further question: so ADA compliance is elevator OR ramps, to be decided by the transit agency for its particular situation?- Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
maybe it goes next round? or maybe it doesn't need to go to CPC for projects on city-owned property? No idea...just throwing out some possibilities.- Cleveland Rapid Rail Construction Projects (Non-Service Issues)

While Cleveland will likely get Syrians from this group, the map and list provided in that link is for the processing of refugees in the US, not just Syrians. As such, it does not mean any particular group of people will be sent to every city on the map or list.- Cleveland Hopkins International Airport

Great news--and the biggest month-to-month jump thus far in 2015---1.9%. So even with a downward revision, we may still be over 1M.- Cleveland Burke Lakefront Airport
