Cleveland Mayoral Race 2021
I agree that Bibb (or anyone) should clean house. But of all the lofty things Bibb has said he would do----hire a ____ "czar" to overlook _____; hire a racial equity officer to oversee all contracts; "beef" up the homicide unit; etc; etc--the one thing I have NOT heard him say is that he would do the very basic thing that is needed and that is to clean house. Does he want to? I'm sure he does. But he can't and maybe he knows he can't. Regarding any condescension in Kelley's tone, I did not hear it, but if its there, I get it. He's faced with what is like a child who doesn't really understand things and says things that reflect that, yet he has gotten real traction. Like I've said before, we'll be getting the Kucinich of the 2020s--but less smart. As they say, history repeats itself....

Cleveland Mayoral Race 2021
I watched the whole thing as well. I thought it was very painful to watch Bibb. Kelley called him out several times rightfully that Bibb didn't really understand how city government works. And on three (i think) occasions when Bibb had no defense or anything else to say completely out of context he would say something to the effect of 'Kelley hates Democracy' which just sounded stupid and was glaringly just filler. It was like the Trumpies saying that Dems hate America. It was clear that Bibb was more visionary---but it was only that--there was no substance. Kelley seemed more grounded in reality. Bibb said "beef up" alot and one time twice in the same sentence. When talking about "beefing up" the homicide unit of CPD, Kelley had to explain what all that entails because Bibb made it clear he had no clue. Bibb offered a lot of buzzwords without anything substance behind them. Kelley offered real insight on how the city works. And I agree with @Whipjackaabove that when Bibb out of nowhere said that he had the endorsements of the PD and Crains it looked really childish and very unpolished. If people just vote on buzzwords like 'need a change' Bibb will win and he has amassed a big following. But as I've said before, please LISTEN to what he says when he opens his mouth. If you do, there's no way it makes sense to vote for him. However, most people do not analyze what is being said and don't really assess who is a better candidate. And for that, I think Bibb will win and it will be a wasted four years in the city while things continue to go south. I haven't given up hope yet, but if the primary is any indication of how things will turn out come November, it looks like we have to wait until 2025 to get a competent leader. I encourage everyone on this board to listen to the full debate so you can hear for yourselves what I am saying. And please REALLY listen to what is being said.

How was the NRP proposal different and why did the commission tear it apart? bad design/planning/density/uses?

Cleveland: Scranton Peninsula: Development and News
300 units is a nice number, but oh man, are those ugly and unimaginative. they fit right into a complex at the outer periphery of an urban area--where it solely exists to house people as opposed to being a place where people want to live. with such a rare and unique setting, the buidling should be a far-better designed. And if the developers had a little guts they'd make at least one or two of the bldgs condos.

Columbus? Those poor people--haven't they been through enough? If the Taliban didn't kill them, boredom will.

Thanks. I was finally able to read it. It said Ohio is get 855, but we are only getting 285?!? That's only a third! We should be getting most of the group that is assigned to Ohio.

Brasa was a big space---will be interesting to see what "Lightroom" does with it. Its too bad Brasa closed---It was an excellent restaurant and the only one of its kind Downtown.

That's great news! Happy to see some self-interested NIMBY's attempting to stop progress and development in the city lose in court.

@freefourur-- That's the exact document I was looking for -- thank you!

Cleveland: Ohio City: The Carriage Co.
The city has a protocol on right of way types---when to call something a street vs avenue vs. bldv. vs. road vs place vs court, etc. I tried to find these rules online somewhere, but could not. In any event, a narrow right-of-way (narrower than a "street") that runs north and south (and not east and west) is a "place" in the city of cleveland.

@KJP - does "15-key hotel" mean a hotel with 15 rooms? If so, that's pretty small--would a hotel that small be economically viable in terms a front desk staff 24/7, housekeeping, etc. when the maximum revenue potential is only based on 15 rooms. I guess there are other 15-room hotels out there. Here's one of them: https://newsofstjohn.com/well-established-business-up-for-sale/.

Cleveland Mayoral Race 2021
Ha! There's no comparing Bibb to Obama. Obama was brilliant in many ways. Bibb is the Kucinich of the 70s---young and inexperienced and harmful, but actually much less competent than the 1978 Dennis.

Cleveland: Hotel Development
^Yes! I felt that something was missing Downtown. It also didn't mention the 160-room hotel at Circle Square, which may be more certain than the 21c Museum hotel or Dream Hotel that were mentioned.

In case anyone missed this one (from the hotel story linked above): "The Orbit, a 54-room Wyndham Trademark hotel under construction across from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, in a former NASA Glenn Research Center building....is expected to open in mid-December."

Cleveland Mayoral Race 2021
I'm bewildered as well. The only explanation I can think of is, people were starving for an alternative to inaction Jackson and what appeared was a young, black man who was well-spoken, went to good schools (never mind that he didn't pass or sit for the bar), and talked about new ideas. So people--who only heard or read surface-level things--flocked to him and as more and more people jumped on the bandwagon, he became even more popular. If things were moderately decent in Cleveland in 2020/2021, Bibb would be laughed out of the room. But instead things were a downward spiral and there was mass dissatisfaction with the current mayor who was in power too long, so people jump to the first potentially good sounding thing without taking a moment--or really wanting to take a moment--to see the reality of the Bibb candidacy. I've been so frustrated myself as to why many otherwise smart people think Bibb is a good idea and this is the best explanation that I have so far. Its kind of similar as to why some otherwise smart and reasonable people (generally) flock to and support Trump. He's horrible but he came at a time of mass dissatisfaction amongst Americans that had been building for a while. How else could Trump been so wildly popular? Bibb witnessed all this so he's replicating it and laughing inside. He may not be smart enough to know that he's not capable of the job of mayor but he is smart enough to dupe the population and stage a Trump-like entrance to power based on dissatisfaction.

Cleveland Mayoral Race 2021
^I'm simply responding to others. But its top of mind as I am truly worried that he could win--more worried than I was about Trump winning in 2016 because I didn't really think he had a chance. I guarantee you this: if Bibb wins, one year into office property values in the city will begin dropping and any hopes for population growth for the 2030 census will evaporate.

Cleveland Mayoral Race 2021
And yet he is STILL a better choice than Bibb. What does that say about Justin Bibb?
-
Cleveland Mayoral Race 2021
Bibb won't--and can't--do anything. He will be steamrolled. He is clueless about how the city really works. ' I'd take a Jackson Term V of nothingness over the damage that Bibb would do and not even realize it.

Cleveland Mayoral Race 2021
There are plenty of examples---just listen to him talk and really think about what he says and what "solutions"--if any--he proposes for something. Ask yourself is what he saying feasible and even if so, does he really have the ability to implement it or even direct it. Does he really know how to tackle the issue? Yes, he can identify surface level problems and does not always get root causes. Any idiot can say people need jobs or that transit is good or healthy food is important---but what is he really saying about any policies or solutions? And do you really think he has any capability to do anything that is actually good? He will certainly try---he is earnest--but because he doesn't really understand things, he will make them worse. People must really LISTEN to what he says and if you do, you'd realize, there's no way in h@ll he'd be a good mayor. A lot of young people like him cause they see a guy like themselves, without realizing what he is, in part because they're taken by someone who appears to be fresh blood and is well-spoken, but also because they themselves are fairly young and inexperienced to understand how things really work. Its not only his age though. One could be great at 34. Unfortunately Bibb is definitely not one of them.

Cleveland Mayoral Race 2021
I would encourage you to vote and to vote for Kelley. I agree he may be heavily 'business as usual' but that is far better than the mess that Bibb will make while he is thinking he's doing good. He's far too inexperienced--given his resume and evidenced by the words that come out of his mouth when he talks. At best he'd be 10% effective. But that's not the end of it--he will do dangerous things and be coerced by specific interests with no ability to resist or even know he's being swindled. That's how clueless he is and he will surround himself by a clueless cabinet that help put in office. I'm not a big Kelley proponent either, but I am voting for him to help reduce the risk of Bibb being elected. The old saying, "the devil you know is better the devil you don't know" really applies here.

^I agree. I would be shocked if they endorsed Bibb, but I know he's fooled a lot of people--a good number on this forum to boot. i hope Crain's as a respected paper can see through it and see the real threat that Bibb that represents.
