  1. ^I think I found what you're citing: "Renderings and plans show that the ramp and staircase would have to occupy a fair amount of the 300-foot-wide space between the Rock Hall and the Great Lakes Science Center, just south of a spot where lakefront developer Richard Pace has proposed building a multistory hotel tower." Preventing a use with lots of people and activity to build a bridge to a lower use is akin to RTA tearing down buildings to build a stupid bus station, after they've removed all the density and potential riders. A hotel at this location is brilliant. Residences and some retail would be good too---but either is far superior than green grass. if you want a ramp for ADA compliance or bicycles, this can still be done over the street or sidewalk with a very oblong shaped ramping system--you don't need a big giant circle--you don't have to destroy plans for a very important use and, in doing so, forcing the keeping of unsightly green grass and a virtual dead zone.
  2. Whats with that stupid loop on the lakefront end? That space should be filled in with restaurants/retail on the street level and offices/condos/apartments not useless green space. There needs to be street activity on both sides of the bridge, otherwise, what's the point?!?
  3. jbcmh81--a nice mix of countries. How do you read this?: 2004-2008------------------------2009-2013 1. Somalia: 4338----------------1. Somalia: 2988 4338 Somalis arrived during the five year period 2004-2008---or is 4338 persons per year on average? Also, what source did you use and is this Columbus city or the metro area?
  4. A name -- for the business they're in -- should be self-explanatory (e.g., Hilton HOTEL or Smithville Convention & Visitors Bureau). Have you ever seen an article anywhere--including the one above--that doesn't include "the Convention and Visitors Bureau of Greater Cleveland" after the words "Positively Cleveland" to explain what it is? As well, as Punch mentions above, there is the subtle linkage of the name to "HIV Positive", which is something no convention and visitors bureau wants.
  5. The very horribly named 'positively cleveland' apparently finally figured it out that their name was ill-conceived and has changed it to "Destination Cleveland," which is a much better choice if it must be something than CVB. http://www.wkyc.com/story/news/local/northeast-ohio/2014/10/28/positively-cleveland-will-now-be-called-destination-cleveland/18070777/
  6. Oh my, that huge ad---one of the worst brand placements i've ever seen in my life.
  7. ^a 40-50 story residential building---with some floors apartments and the higher floors condos--- with balconies throughout the building would be so very sweet. I'd buy a unit on the 45th floor in a second. (Though I wouldn't pay the same money to just rent one on the 45th floor.)
  8. The flight has now been cancelled. (Finally).
  9. The "Clean" plane is now ready to re-enter pax service, though its departure is now 4 hrs late.
  10. Is the ebola aircraft in CLE? Here is what the aircraft did in chronological order. The First flight listed is the one the patient was on. 11. Its only cosmetic---no real capacity changes--but its looks good. But I'd rather the money be spent on real things like a new customs/immigration hall.

cool site, old man. and Happy Birthday!
  13. ^SixthCity--and I apologize to the board--if your name refers to the city's size, Cleveland was actually the country's FIFTH city after the 1920 Census. I've heard the reference to "6th city" before/elsewhere, but we were actually 5th.
  14. So, looking at the top 20 US metro economies, Cleveland ranks 19th. 15. ^Yes, the FIS is still under "A", though needs a lot of work. Its a top priority, in my opinion for the city, as it is critical to attract a new int'l route, but the city doesn't care. or has other priorities. The Department of Port Control spent some $85 MILLION on two parking lots in Brook Park where the cost of a new FIS would have been far less and have a much bigger impact on the airport and air service in the region. (Under the deal with parking lots, the same folks who worked there and ran them get to stay AND the city pays the former owner a bunch of money as a fee on top of what he pays his employees to 'run' the lots.) Extremely shady or just incompetent?
  16. ^A bad advetorial at best. To me, its a list of cities to stay away from. It says, here's a bunch of towns full of simpletons where any schmo can make his mark. Bigger, more sophisticated cities like CLE and NY shouldn't be anywhere on that list.
  17. ^What are you talking about? That's certainly not a list Cleveland should want to be on!

I heard that Uber would use burners and pre-paid visa cards and book a lot of uber cars (particularly the XL ones) and then cancel at the last minute to tie them up and have a bigger share of the business in cities that have both competing. Any insight/knowledge into this? Jake--since you work with both--which is better to drive for? And from the passenger perspective, which company is better, assuming the same fare at a particular moment in time?
  19. Boycott Urban Outfitters! That blood-stained Kent State marketing move using the killing of students peacefully protesting is really tasteless.
