Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
The FAA posted airport rankings today in terms of passengers, for 2013. The #1 airport was Atlanta as was true in 2012. The first five were ATL, LAX, ORD, DFW, and DEN. CLE Hopkins ranked 40th, with 4,375,822 enplanements in 2013, up from 4,346,941 in 2012, a 0.66% increase. (http://www.faa.gov/airports/planning_capacity/passenger_allcargo_stats/passenger/media/preliminary-cy13-commercial-service-enplanements.pdf) I then analyzed the data of the top 100 commerical airports and attempted to rank cities by air traffic. From this angle, Cleveland City ranks 26, and of course, NYC, not ATL, ranks #1 Below is the list of the top 30 cities and the assumptions made as to what airports were assigned to a city (in parenthesis after each city comprised of more than one airport). I know there will be differences of opinion, but this is just a quick stab. For example, I included PVD as part of Boston and DAY as part of Cincinnati, but did not include MKE as part of Chicago. Data are from commercial airports only. Thus passenger data from BKL or Teterboro, and like airports serving the major cities, are not included. Rank City 2013 Enplanements 2012 Enplanements % Change 1 NYC (JFK, EWR, LGA, HPN) 56,674,909 55,288,875 2.51% 2 Atlanta 45,308,685 45,798,928 -1.07% 3 LA (LAX, SNA, ONT, BUR, LGB) 42,297,982 41,431,882 2.09% 4 CHI (ORD, MDW) 42,198,891 41,608,182 1.42% 5 Miami (MIA, FLL, PBI) 33,780,537 33,228,950 1.66% 6 DAL (DFW, DAL) 33,044,968 31,925,532 3.51% 7 Washington (IAD, DCA, BWI) 31,521,292 31,464,891 0.18% 8 San Fran (SFO, OAK, SJC) 30,796,293 30,288,573 1.68% 9 Denver 25,497,348 25,799,841 -1.17% 10 Houston (IAH, HOU) 24,333,301 24,082,737 1.04% 11 Charlotte 21,347,428 20,033,816 6.56% 12 Las Vegas 19,923,594 19,959,651 -0.18% 13 Phoenix 19,525,829 19,560,870 -0.18% 14 Orlando (MCO, SFB) 17,856,682 18,032,496 -0.97% 15 Seattle 16,690,295 16,121,123 3.53% 16 Boston (BOS, PVD) 16,606,925 16,103,017 3.13% 17 Minneapolis-St Paul 16,282,038 15,943,878 2.12% 18 Detroit 15,683,787 15,599,879 0.54% 19 Philadelphia 14,705,014 14,589,337 0.79% 20 Salt Lake City 9,669,234 9,579,840 0.93% 21 Honolulu 9,466,995 9,225,848 2.61% 22 San Diego 8,876,777 8,686,621 2.19% 23 Tampa 8,268,207 8,218,487 0.60% 24 Portland 7,453,098 7,142,620 4.35% 25 St Louis 6,213,972 6,208,750 0.08% 26 Cleveland (CLE, CAK) 5,228,154 5,257,653 -0.56% 27 Nashville 5,052,066 4,797,102 5.31% 28 Austin 4,902,080 4,606,252 6.42% 29 Kansas City 4,836,221 4,866,850 -0.63% 30 New Orleans 4,577,498 4,293,624 6.61%

What Would You Re-Name the Cleveland Indians?
"Guardians" reminds of "chaperones" like its 1950 or something. The "Spiders" sounds kindof cool, if a change must be had. But ultimately, believing there is no wrongful/harmful intent with the current name, I'd prefer to keep the name, "Cleveland Indians".

How dare you make poor spiders into a mascot! These important creatures eat disease-causing mosquitos and, though they cannot speak, they have rights too!

I like this bridge design better than the original (pictured in the PD article) which had a single span. It was rejected because when it was up, it infringed on the runway zone of BKL.

^Downtown sorely needs two or three 24-hr diners with reasonable prices--not a high-end place---it'd be great if that moves in. I'd like to see on around E 4th, one in the Warehouse District and one around 14th Street/21 Street.- Cleveland: Good Bars Showing World Cup Matches
Nice crowd, though I thought it would have been more packed. Thanks for the photos.- Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
^"to take us across the bridge". was there a pedestrian path at one time or do you mean while on a train?- Cleveland: Population Trends
We lost 14 people! According to US Census estimates, the population of the Cleveland MSA (which does not include Akron) went from 2,064,739 (2012) to 2,064,725 (2013)—a loss of 14 people! Providing that the 2010-2013 loss is less than the 2014-2020 gain, we should show GROWTH in the 2020 Census—the first time in, what, two generations? The CSA population went from 3,501,748 (2012) to 3,501,538 (2013) – a loss of a mere 210 people.- Cleveland: Good Bars Showing World Cup Matches
What are some good bars at which to watch the World Cup matches? The PD lists a few: http://www.cleveland.com/bars/index.ssf/2014/06/cleveland_pubs_go_soccer_crazy.html but I am hoping there are other places as well. For example, no Lakewood bars on the list. Ideally, we could put together a good list here.- Cleveland: Downtown & Vicinity Residences Discussion

Other than the paddleboats in one of the above photos, which I assume will be for rent, is/will there be a place to rent a motor boat by the hour, say for 4-6 people, at the Harbor?- Cleveland: Opportunity Corridor Boulevard
^What about the people who currently use E 79 St? make them walk to 25 blocks? I say RTA buys all the land around 79 St and develop it. That land has got to be dirt cheap. Once you lose a station it will be hard to ever get it back.- Cleveland: Random Photos

MayDay--i've always liked your site. A few points: New one looks nice and clean. But didn't the old have non-photo information---with words discussing the buidling, identifying the architect, year of construction, etc? If you've kept it, its not readily viewable in the new site. That information was meaningful and good to have. Also, what I liked about the old site---you could click on a category (say buildings over 500 ft) and get a list of all buildings in that category. but now, there is no submenu. if you want to see all the buildings in a category, one has to go back the main page and hover over the category and then scroll down and do that as many times as there are buildings in that category. Clicking on "CLEVELAND SKYSCRAPERS - 500' AND OVER" for example doesn't go anywhere. At least not when using Chrome. Hope this is helpful. And thanks for maintaining such a great resource.- Fire in the River in Lynchburg, VA
I know people on this site get very angry when historical references to the darker days of Cleveland are at the top of people's minds when they think "Cleveland". But we can't really will it away; its part of what the city is. The river in Lynchburg, VA just caught fire as a train apparently derailed. Wow, that school is cool looking. I"m referring to what is/was the 3rd District Police Station. I haven't been to it in a while, but it was a great old building with two greenish columns out front. North side of Payne--I thought at 22 St. A very cool old court house and jail was behind it on 22 st., but that was torn down a few years ago.- Cleveland: Port Authority News & Info
She has left the Port. Some NPR coverage on the CLE-Europe Express: "If you want to ship something from the U.S. to Europe, or the other way around, you're probably going to need to go through a port on the East Coast. Or at least that's the way things have been. But a new direct route between Belgium and the Port of Cleveland, Ohio got going last week with a vessel that included a bus, some beer, and high hopes on its way to Antwerp...." http://hereandnow.wbur.org/2014/04/28/cleveland-europe-express - Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
