    What are those spots that look like big holes? Also interesting: (from: http://www.cleveland.com/datacentral/index.ssf/2014/01/10-below_zero_in_forecast_shar.html#incart_river_ ) Here are the eleven times since 1900 that the official Cleveland temperature has reached 15 below zero, or lower. -20 Jan. 19, 1994 -19 Jan. 24, 1963 -18 Jan. 20, 1985 -17 Jan. 21, 1985 -17 Jan. 21, 1984 -17 Jan. 17, 1982 -17 Jan. 17, 1977 -17 Jan. 23, 1963 -15 Dec. 22, 1989 -15 Jan. 16, 1977 -15 Feb. 26, 1963 ^the data is from 1900-on---which means all the coldest days have been SINCE 1960--there hasn't been one day between 1900 and 1963. The earth is getter colder. And warmer.
  2. ^"Cleveland has its very own professional soccer team, the Cleveland Royals". (#6 on: http://www.bbcamerica.com/anglophenia/2014/01/10-things-british-cleveland-oh/) Never heard of them. Do they have a following? I hope they do well and get the support of the community. Upon research, I discovered we have an "air supported dome[d]" stadium: The 1,680 seat stadium [at CSU] was built in 1985 and has received many upgrades since, including the addition of an air supported dome in winter months to provide an indoor practice facility. The field surface is FieldTurf. http://www.afccleveland.com/field/index.html

^Hey MTS, you too--haven't seen you [here] for a while!

Population growth follows job growth. And the economy outside of Ohio is growing. Census estimates for 2013 by state are now out. Ohio's not keeping up. 2010-2013, OH population increased 0.3%, but the US as a whole increased 2.4% OH 2010 11,536,504 (Census) OH 2013 11,570,808 (Estimate) US 2010 308,745,538 (Census) US 2013 316,128,839 (Estimate) http://www.census.gov/popest/data/state/totals/2013/index.html ....Kasich had his chance. He doesn't deserve another four years.

  6. ^first update to this thread in four months--and its not a new store, just a move....
  7. ^I'll check out Momocho at some point, but won't return to the Lakewood place. Expansion of a business oftentimes hurts a business that is predicated on detailed quality control like non-chain restaurants are...
  8. Yes--lambchops were "amazing". Price=$20. And that's fine. But the rest of the entrees were okay and/or kindof small. The non-lambchop part of the bill=$80. Total experience--one amazing dish and the remainder small/nothing extraordinary. Total $100. Weighted average and final assessment? Not worth a second trip and now weary of this owner's other restaurants. Happy there's a new breakfast place on in that part of Ohio City? Yes--I am--just leery of going--that's why I was asking those who have been there about price/quantity/value. PS--never been to an Applebee's and never had any interest to go to one.
  9. ^Thanks for the review. 8-12 bucks is fine--if both the quantity and quality are there. 12-20 was fine for El Carnicero, but the overall quality and quantity wasn't there. (I was very disappointed given all the hype it and Momocho gets.)
  10. How are the prices there? I was planning to go there today, til I realized it was half owned by the same guy as Momocho. I ate at his Lakewood place the other day (El Carnicero). One dish (the lamb chops) was amazing. Everything else was fine, but nothing special---which would have been fine, except for the price. The dinner was VERY EXPENSIVE given the quality. Will never return there, but now hesitant to go to Jack Flaps.

The development at Hopkins would be even better if there was an office component--say a 200 - room hotel and 7-8 story office buidling. A lot of cities (Washington and LA included) have new office facilities very close to the airport---there is a market for that kind of space. CLE has one of the highest (if not highest) cost per enplanement in the UA system. As much non-aviation revenue as possible will help make CLE an attractive airport for airlines, which is the ultimate goal.

^Good to hear, though I wish they kept the name "Jay Hotel" as it is far cooler/hipper than the corny "Lofts" name.
  13. $40.0M = Blue Line extension This is interesting. Is this really going to happen? If so, it's the first rail extension in centuries. Centuries. $40M isn't much, I know, but is it just one or two more stations further east?
  14. Yeah, I like it too. I remembered it instantly when you posted it as I spent a lot of time playing with it when had first learned of it. Its interesting also to compare cities and also to see how segregated places are. In Detroit, e.g., blacks and whites are divided by a clear straight line which I think is the municipal border. Also cool just to see the density of population of the country as a whole.
  15. Speaking of breakfast, I had breakfast at Stonetown the other weekend. It was excellent---both the quiche and the pancakes. Had gator sausage too. We don't have many downtown breakfast places so was happy to find it and I highly recommend it. Its on Prospect between 4th and 8th.
  16. KJP---from a few posts above---you can make it bigger/zoom into different parts of Cleveland--or anywhere in the US: http://demographics.coopercenter.org/DotMap/index.html
  17. ^The convention center has parking under the mall---its been there for decades.

Some undesirables from out of town invading the High Line.... http://nextcity.org/theworks/entry/japanese-cockroaches-swarm-the-high-line
  19. New pub on Huron at the Radisson. "A 120-seat restaurant and bar is in the works in one-time office space in the hotel that has its own storefront entrance on Huron, according to Scott Schmelzer, general manager of the hotel for Marshall Hotels & Resorts Inc. of Salisbury, Md. The operation will open Jan. 20 and will offer breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week, he said. It will stay open as late as 2 a.m." (Source: Crain's Cleveland)
  20. Anybody make it to the public meeting? If so, any interesting outcomes?
  21. ^^so many one-story buildings? what a waste of space. These guys want to create a true neighborhood---so why all the one story units?
  22. let me restate---not one person that I KNOW well gives a crap about OSU football. And why would they? You make it seem like some cross-cutting thing like "Food" or "the US Presidency" or even "snow". Obviously I think i hit some nerves here so I guess YOU care about OSU football--which is fine. my point is not that people don't care about it---obviously alumns, students, parents of students, etc. may care about it---but it unfitting of Page 1 of the PD above the fold---covering margin to margin. That's all.
  23. It is? I can't think of ONE person in Cleveland who cares about OSU football. But that's not the point. Nor is what happens in the Carolinas. The point is that a college football game---especially one where nothing spectacular--like 50 touchdowns or something truly record-breaking like that---happens, does not belong above the fold on the front page of the main NEWS paper in Cleveland. 10 years ago, there was never anything about OSU football in the paper, now the paper seems obsessed with it and other sports.
  24. I'm not saying the PD shouldn't report on OSU sports, but its not front page--full top half of the page--material. Maybe that's fine for Columbus's paper, but not in Cleveland. (Even if was a CSU/John Carroll team, its still not full top half front page material.)
