  1. @KJPcan you give us a hint? at least the type of project?
  2. Whatever it is, i hope it is condos with street-level retail and not for-rent apartments. And that it is 25-30 stories. And with no visible parking--either underground or wrapped. And the condos have balconies and a roof-top pool.
  3. No indication from the article if this will have any bearing on job numbers in Cleveland: "...Cleveland-based Sherwin-Williams Co. plans to acquire Specialty Polymers Inc....a maker and developer of water-based polymers for applications like architectural and industrial coatings. The company, which has about 150 employees, operates facilities in Woodburn, Oregon, and Chester, South Carolina...." Will Kucinich endorse Kelley? That's an endorsement Kelley needs and Sandra's will certainly help as well. The Kelley people were pretty harsh towards Kucinich in the run up to the primary, such as the anti-Dennis website and the Dennis the Menace comic book mailed out. I hope Dennis rises above all that and is not personal, but does what is best for the city. As I've said before--but it needs repeating---Bibb would be a total disaster for the future of this city. Would Kelley be great? Probably not, but he's far better by a long shot that putting clueless and dangerous Bibb in City Hall.

Just curious, for you Bibbers, does Zach Reed's endorsement make you support Bibb more or less?
  6. Interesting 3 out of the 3 banks that provided the funding are all from Pittsburgh. "The largest loan is for $60 million from Pittsburgh-based First National Bank of Pennsylvania, which has its regional office in the building. The second-largest is an $11 million investment in state and federal tax credits from PNC Bank of Pittsburgh. However, since state and federal tax credits are funded only after a historic project is completed and passes preservation muster, the 55 Public Square project was advanced those funds with an $8.8 million temporary loan from Tristate Capital Bank of Pittsburgh that was recorded at this time. The financial package also includes a $5 million government investment from the Ohio Water Development Authority, which funds such economic development projects."

Huh? Its not theoretical. I live in an old house in Detroit Shoreway. My house is going from 145,000 to 190,000---that's 31%! My taxes are going up from $4,341 to $4,943 per year---that's $602!--its not 31%, but it is almost a 14% increase. And who knows, three years later it could be increased again. That's my point. I need another $600 now per year net--meaning another $731 (less 18% in taxes) per year for the same house. $731 more per year in earnings is a 17% increase. Will I get a 17% pay increase? Of course not, most companies give 2-3-4% per year calling it a 'cost of living' increase. And for those not working, just collecting SS or pensions or 401k income, the situation may eventually push them out of their homes. Yes, 14% (or 17%) is less than 31% but 14% is still a large number, so the "920" certainly helps but it doesn't make it that current, existing owners do not experience a big increase in taxes, it only prevents us from having to pay an even bigger increase. Sugar coat it or deny it all you want, but 14% is 14%.

@KJP I'm talking about the TAX itself not millage; millage is temporary and can be voted out upon renewal attempts. Property tax is not temporary. Say property tax is 3% of market value (or approx 9% of assessed). If your property value increases 25%---from $200,000 to $250,000 that is an extra $50,000 of value. Are you saying that you do NOT pay 3% on that $50,000 (on top of 3% of $200,000)? I believe you do. The 920 bit is just a distraction and no mill is 30 (which is 3%)--the bulk of the "property tax bill" is the base property tax, not millage.

People--when it comes to paying taxes--and not necessarily idiots. Its the tax people here who are trying to dupe them using 920. MOST of the money people have to pay in their tax bill is NOT millage but the actual tax WHICH DOES GO UP. So, Suburb X's property values went up 25% (on average). True, that the homeowner is not paying 25% More than before. But he/she is paying about 20% more. That is a very hefty jump to pay in taxes---especially as it is not a one-time payment but a forever-payment.
  10. With Minh Anh at W. 54 and Detroit now closed, is there another recommended restaurant for great Vietnamese food on the West Side anywhere?
  11. "....The sale gives Bond Street Group more site control for its current project and possible future ones. Bond Street Group principal Justin Strizzi emphasized that the company does not plan to tear down the restaurant’s building. Instead, he hopes another restaurant can operate there...." Sounds like the Waverly & Oak people just bought to have flexibility in construction. They didn't need to buy it, which prompted Minh Anh to close. Seems like a wasteful loss for the city unless Waverly and Oak have something other plans for the property that they are not disclosing.
  12. Just found the current menu. The prices are high, but don't seem so crazy as to be the most expensive in the city--is it really or was it just commentary?: https://www.iccleveland.com/resourcefiles/table-45-rbl-menus/t45-dinner-menu-new-spring-2021.pdf Reading it is actually making me hungry!
  13. But those are three brands not currently in CLE right? So its still an add for the city and I assume, they're working to bring many more to make their concept viable. Once there are a bunch of new shops, some bigger names (target, etc.) may jump in and follow.
  14. Ultra-nimbyism---filing lawsuits? Do David D. Watson and Susan C. Stone, the people who filed the case, who live at 1876 E 120 St by the project have any chance at succeeding? I certainly hope not.
  15. G4 had some destinations from CLE that only they served like Jacksonville---so it does impact CLE even if those services were less than daily. It is strange that they are fully dropping CLE as CLE wasn't that small of a station for them---they served ten cities from it (not to mention that CLE is a big air market with 4-5m people). Maybe they're really hurting from covid and have to make cuts, give back some planes, etc.
  16. I'm not a fan of the design--grey with some grey, a splash of grey, and then a little grey.
  17. wow---from this angle, such a giant structure! thanks for the photo updates.

I bet a lot of the people who commit murders in Columbus flee the scene by car. Guess the city should ban cars too as that will stop the murders. It seems like Columbus is taking the wrong approach in addressing crime. Attacking the mode of transportation is not the solution....🥺
  19. Pugu replied to a post in a topic in General Transportation
I'm not from Columbus, so my knowledge is limited. But isn't the short north supposed to be a growing, young, urban, car-free type neighborhood?---the very neighborhood vibe and land use types that are aligned perfectly for scooters? Does the city of Columbus think its too successful and therefore must make it less vibrant? I don't get it.
  20. Pugu replied to a post in a topic in General Transportation
Maybe people being hit over the head with scooters and having their wallets stolen. I have no idea, but equally curious!

What are the other contenders planning for 2025? If Reed or Williams or whoever is planning to run again next time, it'd be in their interest NOT to endorse anyone that may be their opponent in four years.

You guys are like Trumpists. How many millions love that guy, celebrate his birthday, defy laws in his honor, think covid is hoax and/or public health initiatives are unamerican, think storming the US Capitol is a good thing, and the 2020 election was stolen? You can't convince these people of logic and sense. And many are well educated and some with respectable professions--doctors, lawyers, engineers, etc.--not all "schmucks off the street". You Bibbers (Bibbists?) sound no different like he's some kind of saint that will save the damned and dying city. Yes, you drank the kool-aid and are duped. The rhetoric is not "pretty dumb", its an accurate depiction of what is going on. Bibb has done nothing for Cleveland and while he can say ultra-basic things about current conditions (like "people need transit to get to work, to get to school, to get to doctor's appointments"), there's no indication that he'd be able to accomplish a single thing especially when you listen to him talk and the emptiness or cluelessness that he spews---but says it in a very well-spoken way. I don't care if the CEO of Ohio City Inc thinks he's good---he's been duped as well. There's a very scary parallel here of Trump supporters and Bibb supporters that seem incapable or unwilling to really look at the person.

I'd say Kelley is the lower risk and higher reward option. Before the results started trickling in I thought the winners would be Kucinich and Bibb, and am happy that Kelley is out ahead of Kucinich. I know Bibb had a quite a following, but I'm surprised by the large margin he came out with. I think a lot of people drank the Bibb Kool-Aid without realizing what a disaster and weak mayor he'd be. He certainly duped a lot of people. I certainly hope Kelley wins in November. He is stiff and seen as a the 'status quo'/Jackson-Rubber-Stamp, I know, but he is still far better than Bibb would be in City Hall. I wish Sandra Williams had done better. I will admit, I had voted for her. For me, it came down to Kelley and her, but she finished even behind Zack Reed!

at this point, for 2nd place, I would guess Kelly---he's a close second followed by Kucinich but Old Brooklyn has not reported at all yet--so that should give him a boost away from Kucinich.
