Cuyahoga is the biggest county in the state, yet Franklin County (Columbus) has gotten far more job-creating tax credits than Cleveland. With an election coming up, you'd think he'd fix this given that Metro Cleveland is the most populated part of the state.... Cleveland: Downtown: Hilton Cleveland
Stories and floors aside, have the architects indicated how many feet tall the building will be? The Medical Mutual Bldg is 450 feet tall (with 31 stories) and the 5/3 Bldg is 446 feet tall (with 28 floors). After Key, BP, the Terminal Tower, and Erieview---this hotel could be the 5th or 6th tallest building in the city. Not too shabby. From the initial review--I think its okay--nothing spectacular yet not horrible either. However, they could have easily put 600 rooms on ten floors---I think its great that they went with height.

Lanci can run for governor now in 2014. He tried County Executive, then mayor, may as well sport that tan on the state-wide stage. He's probably thinking of it!

^that's great. I was surprised that it passed with such a healthy margin! And Metroparks passed as well.

Cleveland CSU Wolstein Center future
^on Chester & 21st---called the Malaga Tennis Center. "The six courts at the Malaga Tennis Center are arranged in two rows of three, allowing spectators the ability to watch several matches at once. Also included in the facility is a storage shed, allowing the Viking teams to store equipment between practices and matches." http://www.csuvikings.com/information/Facilities/index Theres a photo of it as well on that link.

Cleveland CSU Wolstein Center future
Jeremy---you're still on about this? And, to boot, you've missed the point: We should find a way to make Wolstein viable---or not viable and just accept that it should be subsidized by the university like the tennis stadium is. But if the route taken is one to make it as viable as possible, then that should be done as long as it those methods do not include using it as a megachurch. I thought the discussion was pretty clear. To not further derail this thread further, if you'd like to discuss this more, please PM me.

Cleveland CSU Wolstein Center future
^Agreed! Venues are critical to have. Thus, I think efforts should be spent on how to make it viable--rather than what else should be done with the land. Even if it's not viable, it doesn't mean it shouldn't exist. Does CSU's Tennis stadium make money? probably not---but no reason to get rid of it....

^He deserves to be called on for his hypocrisy or his incompetency (whichever it is in this case) and be booted out! Kudos to the Dispatch for writing this---I only hope that people beyond Columbus get the story.- Cleveland CSU Wolstein Center future

Jeremy--really, man? You probably think the disneyification of Times Square is a good thing, too. On not wanting a megachurch downtown (or anywhere in the city), I did not mean to offend you if I did.... Cleveland must be forward-thinking and progressive. A megachurch is neither of those.- Cleveland CSU Wolstein Center future

^I agree. What's with the megachurch fetish? If you really want a megachurch, mail me 100 dollars and get your friends and family to do so as well, and we'll talk. I'd rather the Center not be torn down, rather CSU to hire some smart people to run/market it. I WOULD like though, some streetfront retail instead of the current nothingness.- Cincinnati/NKY International Airport

^ I think Glenville's insult was aimed at me, not you, Cleburger. And if it was, Glenville: the concept is not crazy---many industries operated this way. One could say 'Positively Cleveland' should not be run by Positively Cleveland, rather some national company that does tourism and convention business. Its the same thing. And if you that that is good, why stop there, why not municipal---or state--governments?- Governor John Kasich
Question for Cinci and Columbus and Toledo folks---is Fitzgerald known to folks in your areas? I have no idea, but my feeling is, outside of Cleveland, he may not be known very well.- Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
Why can't it operate itself---just set up a company like Cle Med Mart Corporation--and hire good people to run it? Why do we need some out-of-town national operator to run it?- Cleveland: Hotel Development

Hotel demand thriving in three secondary U.S. markets "......And visitors are responding in kind. Cleveland's revenue per available room (RevPAR) for the first seven months of the year jumped 12% from a year earlier, marking the largest jump of any city in the U.S. central region and reflecting room and occupancy rates that advanced 6% and 5%, respectively, according to the research firm STR. And while occupancy through July stood at just less than 62%, room rates during the previous two years had advanced 11%, to about $94 a night. Hoteliers are poised to respond by adding to Cleveland's stock of about 21,000 rooms. Starwood Hotels & Resorts' 150-room Aloft Cleveland Downtown opened in June, while the hotelier will open a 484-room Westin in the city next year. There's also a 650-room convention-center hotel in the works for 2016, though no brand or management company has been chosen....." http://www.travelweekly.com/Travel-News/Hotel-News/Hotel-demand-thriving-in-three-secondary-US-markets/ [cross-posted in Cleveland Economic News and in Cleveland Hotel News]- Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
