  1. Crains: American Greetings delays plan for new Westlake HQ "The company is pausing the Crocker Park project in light of a proposed go-private offer from Zev and Jeffrey Weiss, its CEO and chief operating officer, respectively, and other members of the Weiss family." http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20121128/FREE/121129845
  2. ^I read the article about West Park. It mentions the new Thai place as well as Cafe Falafel, but didn't mention the Indian place. The area needs Indian! Is it announced in a different article?
  3. regarding Ohio Business Machines, from where did they move? The article says, "A Cleveland company that has its roots downtown but moved to the suburbs 12 years ago has relocated its headquarters back to the place where it all started...." but doesn't say which suburb.
  4. ^Also, Pittsburgh feels a lot smaller than CLE. And, Cleveland seems far more culturally diverse than Pittsburgh, at least by seeing the people on the streets the few times I've been there.
  5. ^are these new jobs or just new to safe guard? bank of america foreclosed on thousands of homes and already had contracted folks "maintain" properties.
  6. I believe both are ERJ145's (approx 50 seats).
  7. ^Not sure. If you're referring to the agreement between UA and State to keep flight levels here a certain level, that doesn't really matter as it was a meaningless agreement anyway and has no bearing on hub status. On the upside, per the latest OAG upload, we're seeing some frequency increases on certain routes, compared to what was in the schedules last week. This is on top of new service announced to OKC and BNA. Below are frequency changes comparing this week's OAG to last. These are flights per day. --UA CLE-ALB FEB 1.9>3 MAR 2>4 APR 2>4 MAY 2>4

Phoenix? Sexy? Well someone has to be into the retiree scene!
  9. ^some cool classes. unfortunately the website leaves price off the site--a critical piece of information!
  10. PD: Exports from Greater Cleveland grew by $1 billion in 2011, Commerce Department says "Exports from the Cleveland area grew by $1 billion from 2010 to 2011, to $11.3 billion, the U.S. Commerce Department said Tuesday." http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2012/09/exports_from_greater_cleveland.html This is a 9.9% increase. The article also says, which I found puzzling, if accurate: "The Cleveland area was the 27th largest export market in the United States. Cincinnati was 16th and Pittsburgh 22nd." Cleveland's economy is bigger than both of those cities---is this an error? Or something like counting Dayton as part of Cinci, but excluding Akron from Cleveland?

^Great, thanks. I just visited "Clear Choice" in Brecksville. Pretty scary. You don't get examined by a doctor until the day of surgery which is a day after surgery prep. On the initial visit, you meet with a non-medical salesperson who can't really answer any technical questions, but is there only to close the sale. You don't even meet with an optometrist!
  12. Industrial Supply Association Product Show & Conference the Industrial Supply Association Product Show & Conference will be held at the Cleveland Convention Center April 25-28, 2015. http://www.heraldonline.com/2012/09/19/4275664/industrial-supply-association.html from the article: "...The Industrial Supply Association Product Show and Conference will welcome more than 1,500 attendees who are distributors, manufacturers, suppliers, industrial manufacturing representatives and service providers in the Maintenance, Repair, Operations and Production (MROP) industry....The conference will utilize 160,000 gross square feet of exhibit space in Convention Halls B and C and will use 2,800 group hotel room nights in downtown Cleveland. The direct economic impact of the conference is projected at $2.78 million.... ...The 2012 conference was held last month in San Antonio. Future conferences will be held June 1-4, 2013 in San Diego and May 17-20, 2014 in New Orleans before coming to Cleveland..." At long last, great to see national conventions coming to town.

Thanks MayDay---just called them $4900 for both eyes--but likely more reputable than places charging 'just $999 per eye!'
  14. Hi---was considering doing lasik eye surgery, though not completely sure yet. Can anyone recommend any good doctors/places to do it? As well, any places I should stay away from? Thanks.
  15. ^ i don't like it either, but would take that over closing the street altogether. as I initially said, I prefer more cross streets and/or signaled crosswalks.
  16. ^I would be okay with "dipping" avenues and crossing them with a very wide pedestrian bridge (as wide as a street) that is not a 'catwalk', to make a more unified campus. something like this: http://mw2.google.com/mw-panoramio/photos/medium/12823840.jpg .
  17. Also, the new Dreamliner (the B-787) will be in CLE in Nov---though only for one roundtrip--IAH-CLE. IAH-CLE-IAH 7 a.m. northbound 4 p.m. southbound Nov. 10, 2012 http://ir.unitedcontinentalholdings.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=83680&p=irol-newsArticle&ID=1730079&highlight=
  18. ^So the safer parking--in terms of crime--is on the north side (vs south side) of campus? Regarding closing off Prospect or Chester, I don't really like the idea of closing any city street. I still hate that Rockwell was cut in two pieces just so the Plain Dealer could use one block for its own parking access. More cross streets and/or signaled crosswalks would be preferable IMO for Prospect and/or Chester.
  19. For the parking lots on the periphery of the campus, which are safer, those north of Euclid (by Chester) or those south of Euclid (by Prospect)? By safer, I mean for the walk between the lot and the building, as well as for the car itself.
  20. Another cool meeting: 2012 Oral History Association Annual Meeting October 10 – 14, 2012 Cleveland Marriott at Key Center Was held in Denver last year. The convention hotel is the Marriott, but its interesting to note they offer their attendees cheaper digs as well and mention the new hostel in Ohio City. Tours for the convention include the West Side Market and the Cultural Gardens.... from their website: About OHA The Oral History Association, established in 1966, seeks to bring together all persons interested in oral history as a way of collecting and interpreting human memories to foster knowledge and human dignity. With an international membership, the OHA serves a broad and diverse audience. Local historians, librarians and archivists, students, journalists, teachers, and academic scholars from many fields have found that the OHA provides both professional guidance and a collegial environment for sharing research. http://www.oralhistory.org/annual-meeting/201-oha-annual-meeting/
  21. Apparently Fitzgerald wants to see it happen: http://www.wkyc.com/news/article/258230/45/FitzGerald-predicts-Cleveland-will-land-convention . There's no news in that link---but it demonstrates there's interest in bringing a D-/R- NC here.... We got four years!
  22. ^Just curious---anyone have any idea how big the InterCon's convention facility is, in terms of square footage and accommodations for a 'keynote speech' type layout?
  23. This looks like a great event. Held at the InterContinental Bank of America Conference Center Amphitheater. 2012 Medical Innovation Summit Orthopaedic Technologies | October 29-31 2012 "CLEVELAND, AUG. 28, 2012 — /PRNewswire/ -- Cleveland Clinic's 10th Annual Medical Innovation Summit – Innovative to the Bone! will bring together more than 1,000 executives, investors, entrepreneurs and clinicians Oct. 29 to 31 to assess the state of healthcare innovation and share insights on the hottest orthopaedic technologies. The meeting will be capped by a presentation of the "Top 10 Innovations" that will have a breakthrough impact on healthcare next year...." http://www.heraldonline.com/2012/08/28/4218828/cleveland-clinics-2012-medical.html Agenda is here: http://www.clevelandclinic.org/innovations/summit/about/agenda.html
