  1. Looks like UA is dropping CLE-CVG, beginning August 2012. DL did as well a while ago. So, if there are no new takers, there will no longer be non-stop service between CLE and Cincinnati. Pax loads were very light anyway, and Cincy folks probably used DL hubs in ATL and DTW more than the UA hub in CLE. Beginning Aug, UA will offer zero flights.... SBN seems to be dropped as well as of Oct. This as of the latest OAG upload....UA could update it any time, though....
  2. Just came across this info on a new book on Cleveland history (actually Oct 2011--but I just learned of it because of a 'meet the author') Title: Hidden History of Cleveland Author: Christopher Busta-Peck Paperback: 144 pages Publisher: The History Press (October 25, 2011) ISBN-10: 1609494393 ISBN-13: 978-1609494391 Also: "Meet author of “Hidden History of Cleveland” at May 15 book signing The Barnes & Noble at Case Western Reserve University will host a book signing with Christopher Busta-Peck on Tuesday, May 15, at 7 p.m. Busta-Peck, the founding editor of the Cleveland Area History blog, recently released the book Hidden History of Cleveland." http://cwru-daily.com/news/?p=7713
  3. KJP, I'm just seeing this thread now (after you referenced it to someone looking for housing near CSU). I just wanted to say, this is a great and beautifully done essay! Thanks for doing it. Its quite amazing how parts of the neighborhood has turned around.
  4. ^Oh, that's really too bad. Downtown needs cool, old shops like that, which gives CLE its soul. Those shops are disappearing one by one.
  5. ^I'm not saying restaurants need to be open all the time--i'm not saying fine dining should be available at 3 or 4 or even 1am. I'm talking about 230 in the afternoon, at which A LOT of people each lunch. You think all the cool, hip programmers and software designers stick to the 9-5 suit and tie office schedule? (Or that they don't eat at or need to eat at such restaurants?) Restaurants still need to run A/C or heat between 3pm and 5pm and still have staff around and lights on---so the "shutdown" of operations isn't that real, but it is far offset by what it does to consumers and its image.
  6. ^if you really think people should not be allowed to eat in our society between 230pm and 500pm, then I'm happy you're not waiting tables anymore.
  7. ^ Excellent! we need good Indian downtown. Indigo on Prospect had crazy bad hours, then, closed down, I think.

  11. ^that building is pretty new---would it really qualify for an historical preservation tax credit? Me either.
  12. ^Catching fire twice and a collision with a Norwegian freighter? A tough life for the City of Cleveland...
  13. I really hope the stupid name "Festival Pier" doesn't really get implemented. Makes us sounds like a small town of simpletons. It should be called what it is: E. 9 St. Pier!
  14. Not enough to justify it's continued existence. We need BKL. Total operations (itinerant and local) by year: 2007: 68,139 2008: 69,231 2009: 57,432 2010: 53,987 2011: 54,288 Operations dipped with the economy but will come back.
  15. Yes. Last day i think corresponded with the last day before spring break. it is now empty with a sign saying the new store will open a week or so later (after spring break) at the new location. right now its a big empty space--not sure what will fill it.
  16. Of course you should. Apparently RTA is aware that today is a big ridership day. (http://www.riderta.com/newsroom/releases/?listingid=1710) yet they're operating normal Saturday service? even if they operated 4-car trains, it wouldn't cost them anything in personnel--still one operator. (maybe a guy in the yard to oversee coupling). They should have been doing both---longer trains AND more frequent service.

^It was sold out BEFORE the PD ran a story about it this past Sunday that it was going to happen. Anyone attend?
  20. Will the Higbees part stay? Will there be continuous casino from public square to the river? any new hotels? new office tower? wait---are these construction bids for designs that are already complete? or are they different design concepts by different architects? I've lost track of where things are with Phase 2....
  21. That provides a nice little tour of the place--always wondered what one of those looked like from the inside.
  22. CSU certainly has less prestige than the other schools mentioned, but there's absolutely no reason why it must be relegated to a 'commuter school' status permanently to bow down to KSU. My hope is that CSU continues to become a better school to eventually be an OSU or something on that level.
  23. ^ what's the facility used for now? Concerts, commencements. Anything else?
