Cleveland - The Ariel International Center
I'm curious if anythings happening there. Its website doesn't appear updated at all, still announcing an event for May 2011 on its front page. The links for 'space availability' and 'reservations' still go nowhere. I hope its still evolving/happening.

Cleveland Rapid Rail Construction Projects (Non-Service Issues)
how about a little retail at the site (fronting the street) like a deli or so, so people can grab a hot coffee or snack while waiting for the train or bus. Our rapid stations are so isolated from the areas they serve. Ironically, you usually have to walk through or past a parking lot to get to them.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
If I needed medical treatment, there are at least 10 places I'd go to before I would even think of Tennessee. However, Nashville must be emboldened lately by the Wall Street Journal's recent article, "Where the Action Is. Across the country, new industry hubs are drawing entrepreneurs and investors—and offering start-ups support and safety in a turbulent economy", which labeled Nashville as a growing healthcare hub. Perhaps the Journal already considers CLE a healthcare hub, so no need to mention in the article. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424053111903341404576484240498824846.html

Cleveland: Public Hall
Looks like work is about to begin: "CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Cleveland is set to begin a $3.9 million renovation of Public Auditorium, with the contract calling for completion of work in time for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction week ceremonies in April. But the investment is not geared solely to festivities that return to Cleveland just once every three years. City officials want to raise the sagging profile of the 89-year-old building and attract more concerts and other gatherings...." http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2011/08/cleveland_to_begin_renovation.html

Cleveland: Ideascale
Hey, whatever happened to clevelandideas.com? It was a website designed to collect ideas on improving Cleveland and allowing others to comment on others' ideas? Similar to what the ideascale seems to be about? Here's some coverage on it: http://www.moneysmith.com/2009/05/social-media-success-story-clevelandideascom/

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
^ could be, as these are temporary increases. no info on flights after april 2012. However, AA will still have an interest (1st right of contract or something similar) on MQ routes I believe, and AA/AE has been slowly (and quietly) building up service at CLE (including finally returning mainline service here), so maybe this is part of that strategy to capture more of CLE from UA/CO, especially if UA reduces service. After all, NYC is still the second largest market for CLE (after Chicago).

FAA/Congressional budget issue impacting projects at CLE (and elsewhere). "The failure of Congress to pass a temporary appropriation for the Federal Aviation Administration could shut down work next week on a crucial runway project at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport and has already delayed the start of two other projects, including a new air traffic control tower at Hopkins...." http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2011/08/work_at_cleveland_hopkins_inte.html

Cleveland: TV / Film Industry News
Story on the film industry's impact on CLE hotels: per the article, the Avengers movie alone is estimated to require 27,000 room nights. By contrast, Spider-Man 3 generated 4,820 room nights. the end of the article says there about 4200 hotel rooms downtown. That's 1,553,000 room nights. So Avengers alone is taking up 1.8% of all rooms....more movies + convention center = new highrise (convention) hotel! "CLEVELAND—Movies under way in Cleveland could mean millions of dollars and thousands of room nights for hotels in the struggling northeast Ohio city. The Ohio Department of Development suggests they could produce close to US$5.3 million in economic activity and more than 41,000 room nights, making movies one of the biggest demand generators in Cleveland, on par with the Cleveland Clinic and Progressive Insurance...." http://www.hotelnewsnow.com/Articles.aspx/6077/Film-crews-create-hotel-demand-in-Cleveland

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
from July 15: I have some friends coming to town for dinner tomorrow night and Ponte Vecchio would have been the best place--that I knew of--to take them, given classiness, general vibe, price, quality, location, and view. Does anyone have any recommendations of a place that is similar?
