Exactly what is the initiative though? Just better 'coordination' or is there any money/project funding for something? Everything i've seen so far is extremely vague.

Cleveland: Downtown Office Buildings Updates
Rather than get a one-time pile of cash for the sale, wouldn't it be better for CMSD to keep the building and rent it out? its obviously a prime location and will bring a stream of revenue.

CLE: High End or Drum Scanning
Hi Robert--thanks for your insightful and detailed reply--its very helpful. Maybe a flatbed would work, though the ability to work from the original negative/transparency is tempting (and thus the V700/V750). But either way, I think i'll go with your overall point--that, given volume and other reasons, it may be better to buy something than sending out jobs and here and there. thanks.

What Makes a city feel big?
I believe Manhattan is ONLY the island. New York COUNTY is comprised of Manhattan, that one section of the bronx, roosevelt island, and maybe a few other places. Liberty island--where the statue of liberty is, is, i think in New jersey (and they once tried to sue NY for implying it was part of NYC).

What does "workforce" mean? diversity of skills, education levels, sufficient number of qualified bodies....? its bad to see the state listed as 50th out of 50 in any category.

If Sears wanted a similar 'feel', Cleveland would match that better than Cincy or Columbus, though.

^Great news. I heard Michigan--where Cleveland's Danny Green movie was shot (Detroit) is eliminating their movie tax credit. Not sure why. It works right?--or at least seems to be doing so for Ohio.

Northeast Ohio: Regionalism News & Discussion
^Cleveland IS prestige. CH/SH/UH.....would become better places if part of Cleveland, though they should keep school system at least for now. How much is CH+SH+UH+others paying for local gov't when economies of scale could be achieved through merger? the areas would still be represented by council districts.... Ohio law says a city must be contiguous, so only cities that border the city could be included unless a neighboring city that borders the city is also annexed. Hts121--I realize that the city can't just annex--both city and suburban residents would have to agree.... We could get the city up over a million quickly. and the region would get more $ from federal dollars reserved for the 'bigger' cities. as a result, CH, SH, UH, etc. (and west side places too) would all benefit.

Northeast Ohio: Regionalism News & Discussion
what makes MORE sense is if CLE annexes those 'burbs. The new areas do not need to be part of the CLE school district (which is one of the big reasons folks don't want to be in the city)--they can keep their own school district(s).

Cleveland: Cleveland Marathon News & Discussion
What's implied is that the number of people registering for the MARATHON is 15,000. But my main point was, Cliff Pinckard, the author was trying to write a positive article---but had to state that the Cleveland race will never be an esteemed race. Of course it could be. Bigger prize, bigger names, its only a question of money, so it could be. I've heard of the New York and the Boston races---I never once heard anyone ever mention the Chicago Marathon (and I am a runner)---but he says we could never be that race either. WRITERS of this senseless negativity need to be called on for their work---its no longer enough to say, 'yeah, the PD is really negative'. Its made up of PEOPLE.

Cleveland: Cleveland Marathon News & Discussion
Cleveland Marathon registrations are up over previous years. While touting this as good news (which it is), Cliff Pinckard of the Plain Dealer feels he must throw a negative commentary into it, rather than just present the facts (or provide balanced analysis). From the story. Emphasis added: "While registration itself is easier than ever, the days of treating the Cleveland Marathon as an afterthought are over. It's not a Boston, New York or Chicago marathon-- and never will be -- but with participation set to peak again this weekend at more than 18,000, it's clear the race is approaching the big leagues. Last year, the race weekend had 15,600 registrants." Its also factually wrong -- the marathon has 2,402 runners, up from 2,088 last year (assuming the graphic in the article is correct). http://www.cleveland.com/sports/index.ssf/2011/05/rite_aid_cleveland_marathon_ru.html

Cleveland: Current Ethnic Neighborhoods
KJP--Yes. PRC to differentiate it from Hong Kong (2198) or Macau (94). The numbers in parentheses refer to naturalizations in the US as whole. In CLE, these numbers were either zero or insignificant. KJP/HHS78---They are very low, I know. Cleveland naturalizations equaled those of Nashville--and we both ranked 40th in the US. One would think CLE should be a lot higher, but the city has fared dismally in the past decades of attracting new immigrants--and hence the recent push. 620,000 people naturalized in the US last year, with 91,000 in Metro New York, 52,000 in Metro LA, and 42,000 in Metro Miami. Metro CLE came in at 2,122.
