^Whats the geographic readership of Scene, anyone know? Is it read and distributed everywhere or just younger/hipster neighborhoods?

^Just lost my respect for Kerry McCormack.
  3. Interesting. Under this scenario where EC surrenders its charter, what kind of entity does EC become? Is it still a "municipal corporation"? But don't all corporations have charters? Or are we talking about "disincorporation" and if we are, is that allowed under Ohio law, regardless if the Cuyahoga charter allows it? Or is is simply a written agreement between the municipal corporation of EC and cuyahoga county that all muny functions are now handled by the county by contract and EC remains a city?
  4. Service now begins Dec 18 2021. Departs CLE 905am; departs NAS 105pm.
  5. In Ohio, I don't think cities can disincorporate. Villages can under Ohio law. See Subchapter 20: https://codes.ohio.gov/ohio-revised-code/chapter-703
  6. Because it is more about East Cleveland than it is about the future mayor. I added the qualifier there so it wasn't immediately redirected to that thread. Its a non-issue in the mayoral campaign. But for those of us interested in talking about East Cleveland and its future and its impact on all of Cleveland, it is relevant to think about who sits in city hall.
  7. I agree. And I know this is the E CLE thread not the mayoral election thread, but which of the seven candidates would be best positioned to convince E Cleveland to give it up and be best at really turning things around? Could this be something that only Kucinich actually get done as he won't tolerate or be pushed around by nonsense? I see all the other six not going near this out fear it will be an utter failure for both CLE and East CLE.
  8. There was a great plan put forward (https://www.centerforcleveland.org/red-line), but RTA being RTA has no vision or interest do anything with the rail system, even with uncle joe's free infrastructure $$$.

^I didn't get the mailer or know that Quentin James is referring to. Does anyone have it or can point to it?
  10. ^ @KJP Wow, sad to see Youngstown, Canton, Flint, and Erie all fell under 100k. They were all independent small cities in their own right not that long ago. Youngstown has suffered the worst--its down to about 1/3 of its peak population. Then again, Cleveland is only 41% of its peak, though I think the city was undercounted in the last Census, impacted by covid delays and related difficulties, such as the inability to find enough enumerators and Trump policy nonsense.
  11. Business travel--the bread and butter of United--is still down. So to utilize their planes and contracts and to make some cash, they are doing what the Frontiers/Spirits of the world are doing---point to point leisure flights--hence flights like CMH to CHS. Pre-covid, any such trip would require a change of planes at EWR or IAD (or CLE back in the day). I hope the CLE-NAS flight stays as with the large UA pax base here, it does not have to be a temporary, pandemic-related flight. Note though that this is not a mainline UA flight on UA equipment--it will be operated by Mesa Airlines and branded as UA.
  12. United adding CLE-NAS (Nassau, Bahamas). Saturday only starting Jan 1, 2022. https://liveandletsfly.com/united-airlines-new-latin-routes/
  13. Yeah, I saw that. As long as they're not using federal money, the city can build a new ground transportation center every couple of years.
  14. "Taxi drivers will eventually move over to the new [transportation center], although not until a walkway to the Red Parking Lot is complete, likely in six to eight weeks. After taxis move to the new facility, Uber and Lyft drivers will pick up passengers at the cabs’ former location, on the lower level at the south end of the terminal." https://www.cleveland.com/news/2021/08/cleveland-hopkins-international-airport-finally-opens-new-ground-transportation-center-for-shuttle-drop-offs-pick-ups.html Step outside the terminal and you'll see zero taxis. Seems like another nail in the coffin for the taxi industry in favor of uber and lyft.
  15. With that headline I was expecting to see a map showing the change from 2010 to 2020 per track---that would have been more useful than simply the state of things in 2020 if the article is really about how things changed from 2010. Also, what's the deal with the SE corner of portage county?

Thanks for counting. I guess I've posted so much because this is THE most important issue for the city between now and Sept 14. Jobs, lead, crime, quality of life, education, etc. everything is now on the table and how EVERY pressing issue facing the city will be solved/worsened/improved by who sits in City Hall come January. Hence I'm following the election carefully. I see that Bibb has gotten traction and the PD's endorsement and so I am extremely concerned because he is by far one of the worst candidates to solve this city's issues yet he has been getting serious consideration by people. Hence the stress of the situation--which leads to lots of posts...

    Well said.

Actually--i missed a scenario. If you're from outside the region-but not California but like Pittsburgh or Columbus--then you might care as well. You'd want Cleveland to fail so your city will benefit from Cleveland's loss as a competitor city. Hence, you'd want someone like Bibb to win so the city can fall apart.

Somebody above said a "prepared statement". Sorry if I used the wrong word, but "prepared" statements are usually that--cold, scripted, and not truly from the heart. They can sound warm and kind, but they are often the creation of draft after draft and proofreaders, and the like and often are not even written by the speaker himself. So if he read a prepared statement, who knows what he REALLY thinks. For an event like that, speak from the heart (if it helps you) and take questions with the hurt attendees or don't attend at all. I read somewhere this phrase "BGNC--Bibb's got no clue!" And now I truly agree with it and get it---incompetent, yes, but its because he has no clue as demonstrated by this event and other things he has said.

Glad you're amused. Not sure if you live in California or a Cleveland suburb. But if you live in a Cleveland suburb, you DO have a vested interest in the outcome of this election. Crime from the city has already spread into the burbs whereafter criminals flee back into the city knowing they won't be chased. New jobs and new companies won't move to anywhere in the CLE metro from outside the region if we're a dysfunctional or shrinking city. And the list goes on. The mayor of Cleveland affects the entire region, not just the city.

Oh my--that's even worse than being a no-show. A no-show could have said she/he had an emergency and couldn't make it. But to actually go and not say a word? And he wants to be mayor? This is yet ANOTHER piece of evidence that he has deep, DEEP judgement issues. If one is clueless about what to do about gun violence (which he apparently is), you don't go to a special gathering of people affected by it and not even have a solution or even some conciliatory words or anything. He is really, really clueless--actually SCARY CLUELESS. This is why he is on the very bottom of my list. He just doesn't get it. Elect him and he'll be scary with cluelessness and no judgement but with great power. I guarantee you ANY of the other six, if attending, would have said something! Please don't vote for this guy and please share these words. EDIT: I see later posts that say Bibbs DID indeed speak. But I agree with the statement above, he should have taken questions instead of reading a cold statement to emotionally-impacted people.

A bizarre article: WEWS: "Cleveland residents show up for mayoral candidate town hall on gun violence; only 1 candidate appears." The one candidate was Bibb. Kudos to Bibb for at least showing up---apparently Reed and Basheer were also expected, acc. to the article. But the article then quotes and talks about people who attended, but doesn't once ever mention anything Bibb said. Did he not say a word? Or just bad/strange reporting? https://www.news5cleveland.com/news/local-news/cleveland-metro/cleveland-residents-show-up-for-mayoral-candidate-town-hall-on-gun-violence-only-1-candidate-appears
  23. ^Less vacancy is always good, but I cringe every time I see a photo of that horrendously ugly bldg--at least the developer is an equal opportunity employer, hiring a visually-impaired architect.
  24. Anyone know the current numbers of Mexicans and Puerto Ricans in CLE and Metro Cleveland (5- or 7-counties)? After Maria, CLE got a big bump from Puerto Rico, but I know some have since returned to PR.
  25. ^The number of judges for any city or county should not be tied to population but the level of judicial activity and need. CLE is a bigger legal city than Columbus, and also, unfortunately, has a higher crime rate than Columbus--both which feed into the court system at all levels.
