Cleveland: North Coast Transportation Center
Greyhound? They would have to split operations between this and chester ave--which they won't like as it will add costs to them. but i agree with you on the suburban bus lines--with two "if's" 1--that the lines still serve other points downtown--its a long walk from the NCTC to say Public Square or Euclid & 9th when its 20 degrees out. 2--that a tremendous level of bus traffic (remember, no one really LIKES buses) does not make the area around the NCTC a big industrial-like area thereby killing the possibility of a true residential neighborhood developing north of the tracks after the port moves. A train station is a good thing; no one wants to live next to a 'bus station' (and I truly understand the concept and benefit of intermodalism). at the very minimum there should be RTA loop buses here, but the maximum number of buses here should be considered carefully before overwhelming the station and thus killing a neighborhood before it begins.

Are these turkish sandwich/wrap places or fancier sit-down places? If these places are run by Turks as opposed to other folks, has there been a new migration of Turks into Cleveland?

And don't forget Baricelli Inn in Little Italy. There's also a B&B on 108th St. For a comprehensive list, is this accurate:? Clinic Area: 1. Intercontinental Suites 2. Intercontinental (96 St.) 3. Cleveland Clinic Guest House 4. Tudor Arms (not open yet) Case Area: 5. Glidden House 6. Baricelli Inn (B&B) 7. University Circle B&B (108 St.) 8. Euclid & Cornell Hotel (not existing yet) Where is the Doubletree going to be? Am I missing any?

DefendCleve--thank you for your insightful analysis and post (Reply #301, above). It is indeed meaningful to have such detail and not a 'cliffs notes' gloss over the underlying issues. Thanks.

C'mon.... I generally hate TV--but this is the world cup--it's once every four years--and has a giant global following. I know Americans in general aren't that interested in it compared to other sports (despite our having a team in RSA right now), but given its location by the Clinic, perhaps Table 45 has a large international customer base, in which case, its not such a bad idea. Now if the TV's stick around after the world cup, then that's another story, but I doubt that that would be the case.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
What do you think? Should some money be diverted to subsidize MM/CC operations? Of course, if the MM/CC does well, then more rooms would be occupied in the city, thus more revenue brought in, thus more tax collected and thus CCVB's share would be larger, so some amount of the funds diverted would be offset by increased hotel activity.

Relocation & The Avenue (12th & St. Clair)
build smaller units! smaller units not only allows the rent to be cheaper, but allows for greater density, meaning more shops and restaurants on the street. that's how NY is a successful city able to support so many restaurants and shops on the streets including a 24 hr deli on so many corners. density! on another post, someone was stressing over his 1000 sq foot apartment for 2 people. with one exception, in the last 15 yrs, with one exception, i've NEVER had an apartment so big--in fact one of the nicest i've ever had was 600 sq feet and I thought it was a large amount of space. Cleveland needs density very badly to support life and activity on the street. if an investor needs x dollars for a return, one way to do it is to make the units smaller--not more expensive. If the units were more price competitive with the burbs, it may draw even more people. more people also means more neighborhood schools (both public and private) that will help attract more people with school age kids as well, providing a more balance neighborhood.

Relocation & The Avenue (12th & St. Clair)
many people move into a property they purchase, moving from another property they already own. perhaps they are less likely to ask a question here (unfortunately) and instead rely on realtors for info.

Relocation & The Avenue (12th & St. Clair)
MTS--I knew they were condos (the townhomes notwithstanding)--it was this part to which I was responding: "Mostly people are looking for rentals." some people relocate and buy, (instead of rent) especially in the current economy when--pricewise--renting vs. buying are close.

ah--got it. that makes sense, thanks.

Relocation & The Avenue (12th & St. Clair)
I noticed on the various relocation advice threads that of the various buildings/neighborhoods Downtown that are suggested to folks, no one ever mentions the Avenue project. Is that because its full, still in construction, or just not recommended?

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
As the 787 is so delayed, CO's announcement is the ONLY of any airline to release a specific route and schedule (and start date) for a flight using the 787. The 787 will allow CO and others to fly long routes that previously required a much larger plane, meaning it needed to fill those seats as well. Thus, the 787 will see a lot of new routes that previously couldn't profitable be served by a 744, for example. (CO tried Auckland before, i think as tag-on from HNL.) So, there may be some replacement of routes from a 767/777/747 to a 787, as well as maybe some 757's. So, regarding CLE, if there is such equipment replacement, there would be more aircraft available for routes from CLE, if they were not utilized for routes from EWR or IAH.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
Per the latest OAG upload (5/27/10), the latest schedule changes for CLE are below. Read: current frequencies per day to future frequencies per day, and the effective date: Delta: ATL-CLE 8>7 Eff Sept.- JFK-CLE 2>3 Eff Sept.-- No other changes. Given that DL operates both routes with regional jets, the changes result in no net change in overall capacity.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
Off the top of my head, I would guess most of the crime that occurs on the streets of Cleveland are by US-born people, not by foreigners--or are you suggesting stripping US-born folks of their citizenship? A far more useful thing to support would be to convince CPD and other parties to get more cops on the street in crime-inflicted areas, particularly those that can help turn the city around (like 65th & Detroit) AND approaches to bring more employment to the city as crime and employment levels are directly correlated.
