Cleveland: North Coast Transportation Center
"North Coast" sounds silly and from a national perspective is utterly meaningless. The name should have "Cleveland" in it. The only station i can think of that stands on its own is "Grand Central". (MAYBE "30th Street Station" is known [Philly]). Other than that you need a city name--even NYC's Penn Station which serves all the Amtrak trains (and LIRR and NJ Transit) and is the busiest station in America--can't stand alone as "Penn Station" outside of NY, as there are other "Penn Stations" (e.g., Newark, all built and served by the Pennsylvania RR). It is usually referred to as "NY's Penn station" or "NY Penn Sta". Thus, "north coast...anything" is meaningless. It should be Cleveland Lakefront Station Cleveland E. 9th Street Station Cleveland W. 3 St. Station Cleveland Waterfront Station Cleveland Harborfront Station Cleveland Erieside Station Stations should have geographic names. If we MUST name it after someone--it should be someone in Cleveland's history that contributed much to the city's rail history (KJP?) or the new station itself--like the City Manager Hopkins who helped develop Cleveland Muny Airport (now CLE) or Mayor Burke who helped build the airport on the lakefront. That said, i'd go for "Cleveland Key Lakefront Station" (not "KeyBank") if they pay for the full station using the winning design!

Cleveland: North Coast Transportation Center
who will be the project 'owner'? Amtrak? City of Cleveland? RTA?

Does anyone know if, other than the area around Shaker Square, are there any parts of the city of Cleveland that not served by CMSD, but by a suburban district?- Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
327--are you saying build nothing else in this phase except for columbus and southward? the greatest demand is probably CLE-Columbus.- Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
So what are the next steps? Will an RFP be released for a contractor--for design or construction or both? Has Preliminary Engineering already been complete or does that still have to be done? Is ODOT the agency in charge of the project? I read that service is to begin by 2011--that's very soon for a new rail line.- Cleveland: North Coast Transportation Center
what are the next steps? also, who will own/build/contract out the new station? would it be the City, Amtrak, RTA? Now that 3C will happen, does the new Lakefront Station become a real project?- Cleveland Hopkins International Airport

No, certainly not. Just as Downtown Cincy should not be slighted, nor should CLE be. The beauty of rail, compared to aviation, is that it offers city center to city center service, whereas airports are necessarily away from city centers. The line should serve all four downtowns (CCDC) or as close as possible (if that is the case with LUK for Cincy). The CLE station at W. 150 St. is not extraneous as it serves CLE Hopkins, the busiest airport in the state and the neighborhood around W 150-Puritas, with hotels and parking in its own right. For Cleveland, parking downtown is less convenient than outside of downtown and why add additional congestion downtown if a passenger is not originating or bound for it, but is in Cleveland (outside of Downtown)? I find the W 150 St. station similar to Metro-North's station at 125 St. Trains stop at BOTH 125th St. and Grand Central and 125 is a busy station. We should be seeking funding sources (e.g., grants, foundations, corporate gifts) to make 3C a fully-functional and successful system that won't fail as it will include key station locations (a good location in Cincy and CLE W. 150 St. and Downtown CLE) and will have sufficient frequency (that is, not cutting 25-33% of the service before the line even opens. The greater the frequency, the more likely people will see and consider 3C as a useful and friendly option). Greater frequency will the beget even greater frequency.- Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
- Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
this is good news. i hope that in the state's attempt to lower expenses, the frequency of service is not cut. part of the success of a train is the frequency of service--like one an hour--the 308, the 408, etc. four trips a days is already pretty sparse....3 a day may doom it to failure. Also (and I realize this is the 3-C thread), was the line CLE-Toledo-Chicago line was not funded?- Info on relocating to Cleveland area
bukeye1--thanks for that link--an interesting read.- Info on relocating to Cleveland area
Why is this the case? Also, are there are other cases of this where parts of the city are not served by CMSD, rather by a suburban district?- Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
That proposal by Mario Caceres and Christian Canonico (the image in the article) is very cool.- Cleveland: Random Development and News
"A la cart? Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson cooks up plan for more food options on street" This is great. The city needs much more street-level activity. Also, it'd be great to see some fruit stands on the streets downtown--not only healthy, but convenient place to shop during the workday. Fruit stands are all over NYC.- Cleveland Hopkins International Airport

Good news on CLE pax numbers: "December was the first month in 2009, and the first time since August 2008, where passenger numbers at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) exceeded passenger levels of the same month from the preceding year, another sign that the recession is easing as the Cleveland and national economies are recovering. The data include both domestic and international passengers. The increase was small— 0.05% —but it was positive, and the latest data point in a generally steady increase from a low of -20% in May 2009 (year over year)...." from: http://www.airlinecity.com/ (Jan 20, 2010)- Cleveland: Downtown Aquarium
Huh? Wasn't this already announced by the PD ten days ago? "Developers float another plan for a Cleveland aquarium -- the third proposal being pitched" By James F. The PD article makes it sound like its a new story, that it never wrote about it before.- Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
perhaps the owners of one cle ctr can run it temporarily until a new owner is found. any enterprising folks here on UO want to step in to keep the center alive? otherwise, this economic activity may move out to the burbs or dry up altogether.....- Cleveland to Canada Ferry
The study looked at Port Burwell and four locations in Ohio. Pt. Burwell is really close to Erie, PA, and relatively far from CLE, making the study irrelevant for CLE. No offense to Lake County, but any ferry service from the Ohio side of the lake should be at the region's core, not out in Lake County, as a CLE location will maximize the likelihood of success and from where southbound cargo can head South/Southeast (Akron, Canton, Youngstown, Pittsburgh) or Southwest (Columbus, Dayton, Cincy...), not to mention pax and cargo destined for Cleveland itself. What makes sense for this service is something immediately across the lake if possible. I don't know Ontario very well, but looking at the map, maybe somewhere near Chatham, Ontario. Not sure where this is in relation to Port Stanley, Cleveland's original 'partner' at the dance, but if the city in Canada (Port Stanley in this case) isn't ready to make a move (I heard there were NIMBY issues), the CLE should aggressively find a new partner and move forward.- 2022 FIFA World Cup
it certainly makes Cleveland's elimination easier to swallow, though the inclusion of Indianapolis and Kansas City over CLE makes it harder.- 2022 FIFA World Cup
well, looks like we've lost already. The official list was announced yesterday. The 18 selected cities are: Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Mo., Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, Tenn., New York City, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Diego, Seattle, Tampa, Fla. and Washington, D.C. Eliminated were: Cleveland, Charlotte, Chicago, Detroit, Jacksonville, Orlando, Oakland, San Francisco and St. Louis. This is very unfortunate. It would have been a great venue for the city with the whole world watching. http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20100112/FREE/100119957- Cleveland Area: American Greetings HQ relocation?
AG could be anchor for a new tower at 33 Public Square, which was torn down for the Ameritrust Tower many years ago.
