  1. I didn't realize that of the Terminal's (claimed) 771 feet, 63 was flagpole!
  2. I agree. Plus look at what Sea World already did to Cleveland---they closed their park in Aurora. I hope this deal does not happen.
  3. what's significant about 708? 708 would put a bldg between BP (658) and the Terminal Tower (771).
  4. SeaWorld makes $3.4 billion takeover bid for Cedar Fair "SeaWorld Entertainment Inc. (NYSE: SEAS) has offered to buy amusement park owner Cedar Fair (NYSE: FUN) for around $3.4 billion, people with knowledge of the matter said....Deliberations are ongoing, and it's unclear whether the approach will lead to a transaction, the people said. Cedar Fair confirmed in a statement issued Tuesday, Feb. 1, that it had received and was reviewing an "unsolicited, non-binding" proposal from SeaWorld. Perella Weinberg Partners LP and Weil Gotshal & Manges LLP are advising Cedar Fair....." https://www.crainscleveland.com/arts-entertainment/seaworld-makes-34-billion-takeover-bid-cedar-fair
  5. From @KJP's story: "The scale of Bedrock’s Hudson’s Site tower has been a moving target. It was to be 800 feet tall and then 912 feet, making it Detroit’s tallest skyscraper by eclipsing the 727-foot-tall Marriott at the Renaissance Center." Hopefully Bedrock will still want to pursue their dream of a 900+ foot bldg and finally realize it here in Cleveland. They could build the tallest bldg in Cleveland, eclipsing the 947-foot-tall Key Tower.
  6. That 2017 design may be a bit boring, but its much better than the new design, plus the 2017 version has balconies.
  7. Regarding Tower City---from Crains: "...Bedrock has signed more than a dozen leases at Tower City in recent months. And a few temporary tenants have signed on for the All-Star Game. Complex Networks, a New York-based media and entertainment company, partnered with Bedrock to open a pop-up shop in mid-January. Another installation, a basketball half-court called NBA Ice Buckets, now straddles the mall's deactivated main fountain. The NBA is offering patrons a shot at prizes, including game tickets. The bulk of the new leases, though, are longer-term arrangements with homegrown businesses...Occupancy at the mall had dwindled to roughly 15% by last spring, when Bedrock and its consultants kicked off their leasing campaign. Once the incoming tenants open, the space should be 50% to 60% full, Greaner said. The company is walking a careful line, trying to bring activity to the property without making any commitments that will hamstring a more holistic redevelopment push..." https://www.crainscleveland.com/real-estate/bedrock-sees-small-businesses-key-tower-citys-revival
  8. That is quite ugly. maybe the design would work if it had some colors in it versus all grey-brown.

Are you suggesting that if I am a CPD officer, I am unable to identify a policy that is improperly written and can have inappropriate outcomes? Oversight improvements are needed. But, as written, Issue 24 was not the way to do it.

I'm not obsessed with anyone. I was simply responding to the link that @Boomerang_Brianposted and found something interesting about it. Its also relevant because Weingart himself is running for office again so his personal actions matter for the greater public.

Yes, I did read that. Bibb's backing of Issue 24 showed he doesn't really understand how managing a police force in a major city works. If Weingart's statement is true, it makes sense as he wouldn't want a guy in office that doesn't understand something so critical to the functioning of the city. But whatever his reasoning, actions speak louder than words. He gave Kelley 4x as much as he gave Bibb--who he has personally worked with and knows something about-- probably more than most people who just heard him talk and then voted for him (Bibb). I'm wishing the best for Bibb and my city. Just found this new revelation very interesting.
  12. Pugu replied to Pugu's post in a topic in Ohio Politics
True, but you get a sense of the person. He was in college, not a five-year old. I'm not sure what being a partner or not has to do with anything.
  13. Pugu replied to Pugu's post in a topic in Ohio Politics
This was interesting: "Another contribution [for Kelley] came from contribution from LNE Group, the lobbying firm run by Lee Weingart, the Republican candidate for Cuyahoga County. Bibb worked briefly at LNE Group while in college, Weingart told Ideastream Public Media recently. His firm contributed $4,000.... Weingart also noted that he gave $1,000 to the Bibb early in the campaign. ..." Weingart played it safe by giving to both sides, but gave more to Kelley. LNE is a small firm--so he personally knew Bibb. And he gave 4x the amount he gave Bibb to his competitor.
  14. Not a giant acquisition, but every little piece helps. "The Austin Co, the big Mayfield Heights-headquartered design-build contractor, has just acquired Gala & Associates, a Detroit-based architecture and engineering firm active in automotive and other markets....Gala also has offices in South Carolina, Mexico and India. Its portfolio includes automobile assembly plants, stamping plants, other industrial buildings and government buildings. Pierce said the automotive sector is growing, with new plants in the U.S. and anticipated electric vehicle plants. The LinkedIn website indicates Gala has about 50 associates...." https://www.crainscleveland.com/real-estate/austin-adds-michigan-design-engineering-firm-building-empire
  15. Is there something that binds Intel to the State so that some contracts necessarily will go to CLE (and Cinci)? or it just assumed (correctly) that Columbus can't support Intel alone so that other suppliers and contracts will be needed. If the latter, these could come from anywhere--Pittsburgh, Austin, NYC, Boston, etc--nothing guaranteeing any benefit to CLE at all unless there is something specific in the deal.
  16. Look at the photo Crains used for this story. I think they're trying to say that Dollar bank is moving its HQ because it wants to be close to Beerhead. No other way to explain why Beerhead is otherwise so prominently displayed in this story about the CLE HQ moving to the East Bank of the Flats from Erieview Tower. Dollar Bank to move Cleveland headquarters across downtown https://www.crainscleveland.com/real-estate/dollar-bank-move-cleveland-headquarters-across-downtown
  17. I think the sale price becomes the market price. So if the county thinks a property is worth is 100k (assessed =35%, so 35k) and that's in the county's system. THEN you buy the house for $200k. THAT amount is now the value. So mkt value is 200k and assessed is 70k. I think the update is immediate upon the sale being recorded, it doesn't have to wait for the 3- or 6- yr review milestone.
  18. I know. One was an historic post-card lifted from ebay of the street from 100 yrs ago.
  19. No way man, that's GROWTH! Whether 0.5% or 18.1%---as long as its not zero or negative, its growth! But in all seriousness, we should look at the full seven county area--not just five counties. Lots of people from Cuyahoga have moved to Summit and Portage counties as well---and are still working in Cuyahoga. Would like see the change in population 2010 vs 2020 of our full metro area (not "MSA" area).
  20. The whole area/region is "Cleveland"--except for the city of akron. I'm talking as a place name---not that people in Waite Hill want to drive and hang out in CLE proper. Just the name and identity of the full area. You could say "Greater Cleveland" instead of "Cleveland" if that makes you feel better!
  21. Good. This was a bad idea. Merger talks between University of Akron School of Law and Cleveland-Marshall College of Law are officially over https://www.crainscleveland.com/education/merger-talks-between-two-northeast-ohio-law-schools-are-officially-over
  22. Crain's had a story on this I just saw---https://www.crainscleveland.com/scott-suttell-blog/theres-increasing-amount-filmmaking-action-cleveland--but they don't mention the status of Cinema City at all other than to say that they reported on it back in May. Kindof lame for Crain's---its a relevant piece of information if they are going to bother talking about film rankings considering that CLE got to be #11 in large part because of Cinema City.
  23. Of the top 10 cities for new businesses in 2021, all were in the South, except one: Cleveland. "The number of individuals filing paperwork to start a business rose 25% from 2019 to 2020, according to new data from LendingTree. The data excludes those who decided to freelance or do other work that did not require filing for an Employer Identification Number. The increase continued through 2021, with 600,000 people filing for an EIN through November 2021.... Among the 100 metro areas with the most new formations, Memphis had the strongest growth in business applications, according to a new study by LendingTree. Mobile, Ala.; Shreveport, La.; Baton Rouge, La.; and Augusta, Ga.; rounded out the top five. Of the 10 metro areas with the biggest growth in new business formations, only one was not located in the South. That honor belongs to Cleveland, Ohio, which ranked at No. 8, according to LendingTree." https://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2022/01/26/pandemic-entrepreneurship-boom.html
  24. Its not about distance. Anyway, Akron (and Summit and Portage counties) should very much be part of the Cleveland MSA. Akron fights it, which brings down Cleveland, and hurts Akron in the process, but they're too pride-filled to understand that.
