The issue with Bibb is not that there is a lot he doesn't know--one can surround him/her-self with good people for that. It's that he comes across as so inexperienced giving very little confidence as to how he would handle tough situations and be a decent leader, which, as the mayor he'd be confronted with regularly. I think he can talk a good talk and that he's bright, but he needs far more than that to be a viable candidate. For the record, I'm not a Kevin Kelley fan either, though I think he's a better bet than Bibb. But given the list of candidates, the game is to pick the best of the bunch, so some homework is needed to determine who really is the best given that there is no clear, ideal candidate. Re Kucinich, he certainly won't take crap--and I think he'd be a far better wheeler-dealer for CLE than Bibb or the young lawyer from West Park (DiBella?). But, he comes with his own baggage. As does Sandra Williams.
  4. ^Okay, cool, thanks. Yeah, Hotcards, tried to be young and hip---yeah, moving to Chagrin really fits that narrative. Plus I have since read they let some columbus company do most of their printing.
  5. Did jakprints move back Downtown? I used to use them for printing--or at least I thought it was them, but then they moved to Eastlake or something so I stopped using them, but used Hotcards instead. Now I see Hotcards has moved to Chagrin Falls, so I'm not going to support them anymore. But now I see Jakprints listed as 30th & Chester. Did they move back Downtown? If so, I will totally support them and recommend others there and pull all my support and referrals for Hotcards. But is my memory correct? Did Jakprints move from Downtown to Lake County somewhere, and then just move back? If so, that's great.

It either demonstrates a complete lack of sense, his inability to see/know/understand the issues around George, or where is preferences and future favoritism lies. Whichever of the three, its not someone we need in city hall. Regarding the comment "its an inexpensive place for a fundraiser" there are plenty of other places--and with covid--plenty of free outdoor spaces. I doubt his campaign is spending a dime---its likely a gift from George. Basheer has some potential--and I would have considered him before this--but like Bibb, he is fairly inexperienced and it comes glaring through with accepting this gift from Bobby George.

Oh my.... guess he's now off the list of credible contenders. Here's my current list: Need further investigation before deciding: Kucinich, Sandra Williams, Kevin Kelley, d*ck Knoth Definite no's: Basheer Jones, Justin Bibb, Zack Reed I know I'll get flack from UO for having Kucinich up there in the maybe list, but you have to view him in the existing candidate pool--there really is no shining lead here....
  8. Orange and blue should be flipped in terms of urgency, corridors along 480 and 271 make no sense, and service into Medina county but NOT akron/summit county makes no sense.
  9. Before it connected two black neighborhoods, it connected two white parts of town---a Hungarian hood to a Polish hood. It was a great piece of Cleveland history...very sad that its gone.
  10. WTF? The only suspension bridge in CLE was removed? for what reason? Was obviously done in secret otherwise people would have resisted. Who tore it down? and why?
  11. If NYC and Newark--two separate "independent" cities--are in the same MSA, then without a doubt, CLE and Akron should be in the same MSA.
  12. ^The national park between the two areas creates a giant gap of population and economic activity---that may play a role. Re other areas---NYC and Newark, NJ maybe?
  13. Bold text: No, everyone does not get what they want: Cleveland is a 3MM city, but it shows up as 2MM so it is overlooked by major retailers and companies. That hurts CLE, but it also hurts Akron too. Re second paragraph: The economy of Akron DOES have linkages to CLE. Also, yes, it has AN airport, but I'd say MOST people in summit county probably use Hopkins more frequently than they do CAK given the greater amounts of airlines and service. Re "I know many in Akron who haven't been to Cleveland in years (and I'm sure vice-versa as well)." I'd say the percentage of Clevelander who haven't recently been to or have never been to Akron is to be much higher than Akronites who haven't been to CLE in a while. The draw here is not equal--CLE will pull people from Akron (not vice versa) hence part of the argument that Akron is part of CLE.
  14. I don't see Akron as a suburb of CLE. Its a city in its own right---with a separate settlement history. But that doesn't mean that its economy and residents are not directly tied to Cleveland, which they are.
  15. Unlike Akron, Lake County clearly understands that it is part of Cleveland and it's economy is tied to Cleveland. I've seen this ad around as it tries to get people back to the area:
  16. Thanks for the photo. That's quite a clunky looking bridge--esp for a pedestrian bridge. If it were supporting 18-wheelers, I'd get it, but its not. Something more elegant would have been classier. In any event, will it operable 24/7? And who is the operator, the city?

Anyone know, did Richard Knoth or Basheer officially announce yet? Basheer's announcement was supposed to be today or yesterday and Knoth's was supposed to be a while ago.
  18. As it should be. ALL of the current Cleveland MSA and Summit and Portage counties should be in the Cleveland MSA. Since MSAs cannot overlap, this would be the best way to define the Cleveland MSA. "Greater ____" are based on unofficial boundaries--so "Greater Akron" can define itself however it wants, just as could "Greater Chagrin Falls."

In a BW poll started weeks ago before all current candidates announced--including Basheer and likely Williams--Kucinich is at #1 and Basheer is #2. Wasn't expecting Kucinich to come in first. https://www.cleveland.com/metro/2021/05/dennis-kucinich-is-no-1-and-basheer-jones-is-no-2-in-new-cleveland-mayoral-poll-the-wake-up-podcast.html
  20. ^Summit County (and maybe even eastern Medina and western Portage) certainly can be called "greater Akron", but "greater Cleveland" is definitely Cuyahoga and the surrounding six counties at the very minimum.

Jackson announced this evening that he will not seek a fifth term. Let the wildness begin!

Jackson announced he will not seek a 5th term.
  23. ^I thought it was but not sure. But in any event the boundaries of the "Cleveland MSA" are not the same as Metro Cleveland, which is 1.5x larger.
  24. Summit and Portage County have always been part of the Metro (or Greater) Cleveland. They are no longer part of the Cleveland "MSA" as currently drawn, so Census data must always be used carefully, as "Cleveland MSA" is only part of Cleveland. To minimize confusion that is caused by the government, I added "7-county" to my total to differentiate it from "MSA" or "5-county".
