  1. ^One year (2005) isn't a long time to do anything of that scale, though she could have at least started. But then again, maybe she thought she had at least five years, assuming she'd win in Nov 2005.

BasheerJones to announce he is entering the mayor's race as well.... Cleveland City Councilman Basheer Jones expected to enter mayoral race Thursday Channel 3: "As expected, Basheer Jones will throw his hat in the ring to become the next Mayor of Cleveland. The Ward 7 city councilman will officially launch his campaign on Thursday, according to 3News' Mark Naymik. A Facebook page making Jones' intentions known actually went up on Wednesday before quickly being taken down, although a campaign website basheerforcleveland.com remains active...."
  3. This job opening came across my desk today: Executive Director, St. Clair Superior Development Corp. But they just hired their current Exec Dir, Joseph Duffy, a few months ago (https://www.crainscleveland.com/nonprofits/joseph-duffy-lead-st-clair-superior-development-corp). That' a really short tenure. Anyone know the story here?
  4. We've lost NINE Congressional seats since 1970. The 20's were good--and hopefully will be again. Per the 1930 Census, we gained two seats. Below are the number of seats lost (or gained per each Census: Interactive tool enables users to view more than 10 decades of apportionment and population data: https://www.census.gov/library/visualizations/interactive/historical-apportionment-data-map.html
  5. Always up to try a new restaurant. The menu looks great. Has anyone tried it yet?

We have bigger issues than "regionalism" that regionalism won't solve: crime on the streets, shootings, quality of life, condition of streets, lead, social issues. I mentioned Knoth's plan but I think that's atrocious. The airport must stay in the city's hands.
  7. If it all really went down like that, that's really sad. Pace's plan's work in the works for a long time and Jackson, if he was awake, should have been well aware of them, well before simply denying a permit to begin work. It's fine to start with some existing structures in the lakefront plan---its not like we're going to bulldoze Browns stadium and rock hall and THEN begin to create a master plan. Sounds like a some very shady excuse. Maybe Pace pissed someone off? Maybe someone more connected or a family member with Jackon's ear wants the development rights instead?

d*ck Knoth talked of giving away Hopkins to a regional authority.
  9. Why did the deal with Pace / Cumberland fall through--wasn't it a done deal?

Bibb's not holding public office is not what disqualifies him. Its his general inexperience. Its almost deafening when he talks and yes, he loves his grandma very much. (It sounds like she would probably make a better mayor.) He won't be able to stand up to a suburb as it steals away a company from the city or to the state as it implements a policy that is bad for the city. He has neither the general skills or experience to do that. I think he's smart and enthusiastic, but those are not sufficient skills to be mayor, especially after so many years of lackluster leadership in this town. I agree that Kevin Kelley is part of the existing "system" and may not be ideal candidate. I feel moreso about Zach Reed in this regard. That's why I was very excited when Sandra Williams threw her hat in the ring. She's obviously done some inappropriate stuff--and she--like Bibb, Kelley, and Zach Reed--lacks the public executive experience--and only has--like Kelly and Zack Reed--the legislative side. But if the list you gave above is the extent of her misdoings, I'll still take that over the vacuum of experience of Bibb. Plus a black woman mayor would be a good role model to so many young women and girls in the city.
  11. Yeah. I had read "unofficial" as "may later be revised." I'd prefer the terms "census" or "count" vs. "estimate". I realize "census" here could lead to confusion as well....but I mean the common noun, not that agency name.

^Thanks. I looked for it, but didn't see anything. As to her credentials, would you rather have Kevin Kelley? Zack Reed? Bibb can talk a smooth talk, but he is way too inexperienced to lead the city. I'd rather have Kelley or Sandra Williams over Bibb at this point. Knoth has practical insight on things, particularly police, but I'm not sure he'd be a good mayor either. Still doing my research on all the candidates.
  13. Nice detail: "There are more than 100 diverse ethnicities found throughout Cleveland, which means there are plenty of culinary options."
  14. Always good to see CLE companies acquiring things outside of the city: Legacy Capital Partners and Morrison Avenue Capital Partners Acquire 320-Unit Timber Ridge Apartment Community in Mobile, Alabama "Legacy Capital Partners, a Cleveland, OH-based national real estate investor firm, together with Morrison Avenue Capital Partners, a Tampa, FL-based real estate owner and operator, have formed a joint venture and announced they have acquired Timber Ridge Apartments, a 1998-vintage, 320-unit apartment community in Mobile, Alabama. The property is located within 2 miles of the University of South Alabama and Providence Hospital, a major health care system in Mobile...." https://www.multifamilybiz.com/news/9663/legacy_capital_partners_and_morrison_avenue_capita...
  15. I was responding to the person who said that the numbers to be released were not the "official" numbers. Hence my response. Estimates ARE official numbers. If he said "Estimate" that's a different story and I know they release them even in census years. I thought the poster was saying they were releasing 2020 Census (count, not estimate) numbers but they would not be official---just temporary. My other point though was that now that they have released statewide actual numbers, we KNOW the state number is wrong for the 2020 estimate, meaning the accuracy or usefulness of the data for every single county comes into question for 2020 (assuming we accept the 2020 numbers as fact).
  16. For my love of data, I couldn't resist at least looking at the release. Here's some light analysis:
  17. What's the point of these? These are 2020 estimates based on the 2010 Census (and yearly estimates to 2019). Here's a link to the useless data: https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/popest/technical-documentation/research/evaluation-estimates.html

I don't see that the PD even has a story on it! But on their website under "Top Stories" they have: Shaker Hts. looks at raising tree assessment fee Today’s famous birthdays list for May 4, 2021 includes celebrities Will Arnett, Erin Andrews If I didn't know better, I'd think the PD didn't like her, but I know that's not the case. They probably haven't heard the news yet or don't have enough staff to cover it when there are stories like suburban tree assessment fees to write about. @KJP - start a politics beat!

Yeah, agreed. We barely have any local media.
  21. If they are not OFFICIAL, then they are more subject to public outrage/discussion/demands for change, etc. That's not good. I'd rather the Census release OFFICIAL numbers then "temporary" ones as the unofficial ones are guaranteed to start gunfights.
  22. I guess a bunch of different uses for the windowless interior---may make it work--co-working on floors 4, 7; gym on 3 and 8, storage spaces on 2, 5, and 9, giant data equipment room on 10, skateboard track on 11, etc...
  23. Unless they're leaving the doors in the hall open, that doesn't add natural light or windows. Plus if the coworking space is used only by those across the hall and not outsiders, why bother going across the hall? A co-working space must draw people from all over, so the lack of natural light/windows issue still remains.
  24. I don't get it. A nice co-working space has windows/natural light. Why would one want to get a space at a window-less co-working space when there are plenty of others around that offer windows and natural light?
  25. Today is May 4th. Was hoping the Census Bureau was on schedule with their estimates but I have not heard anything yet.
