  1. The Courtyard by Marriott was the official hotel. Strange though as there is no Marriott Courtyard within walking distance of the event--the closest one I know of is in University Circle. Usually official or sponsoring hotels of an event are at or adjacent to a venue.

Frank's shenanigan's around protecting his grandson, Frank Q, is finally catching up to him, and making national news. He’s a Big City Mayor. His Grandsons Are Suspected Gang Members. Frank G. Jackson rose to power in Cleveland as a champion of the people. But a lawsuit says he has used his influence to protect his family from the law.... "“Q.’s at the mayor’s house right now,” one of the would-be arresting officers said into his cell phone as he walked up the driveway. “He just pulled up. [Sergeant] Gomez asked us to detain him. So we’re gonna go up to the door and try to grab him.” But that evening, Mayor Jackson had a phone conversation of his own with his chief of police, Calvin Williams...." https://newrepublic.com/article/162209/frank-jackson-cleveland-mayor-gang-members Cleveland mayor allegedly uses status to protect gang member grandson "Cleveland Mayor Frank G. Jackson allegedly used his influence to shield his grandson — a reputed gang member — from being arrested in connection to a fatal shooting that still remains unsolved two years later, according to a report...." https://nypost.com/2021/05/03/cleveland-mayor-protects-gang-member-grandson-from-arrest/ .....quite the legacy to leave behind after 16 years in office.

Sandra Williams, an Ohio State Senator, announces she is running for mayor. She may be the best candidate so far.
  4. Is there a pdf of it? On that link it is only an "interactive" plan and for me doesn't work citing a "flash" issue.
  5. Lots of people like BIG, giant properties -- with kids or no kids -- regardless of how impractical it is. People can easily live in 600 SF units, yet they have 5k, 6k, 10k SF homes. Total waste of energy, materials, and space. But they do it. And show it off to the world. So I wouldn't rule out building big units as there is a market for them. In all those LA mansions, you think they are just one or two-bedrooms in them? And many are filled with people with no kids. And for those that WANT to live in a building and in the center of a city, a big unit offers them that. Where else is there in all of Cuyahoga County for such? No where. Maybe one of the few penthouses at the Pinnacle. That's all. This could be it.
  6. No one will pay $12,000/month for a 6-bedroom if there are no $12,000/month 6-bedroom apartments on the market. Ten years ago, who would have thought that ANYONE would be paying $4,000-$5,000 per month in Cleveland for a one or two-bedroom? Yet plenty of people do nowadays whether at 1 Univ Circle or the Lumen or elsewhere.
  7. I disagree. if you have "offices, apartments or other non-public structures on the lakefront" especially apartments/condos, it makes it a more vibrant area---not just a weekend, evenings, or summertime place, but a real community and neighborhood--that ALSO is a recreational/entertainment area. For example, recreational/entertainment-only areas often have crappy and overpriced restaurants--and whose hours are timed to specific entertainment/recreation schedules vs real life---why not have real and decent amenities that are always there (and open)?
  8. Why just kidless people? Millions of children live in buildings.
  9. Certainly the owner/landlord can pick his residents, no (with exception to being on the basis of color, national origin, gender, etc.)? So he/she can stipulate families or maximum resident numbers of a different last name if that were the case. But a high price should automatically eliminate the frat people. If the rent on a 6-bedroom was $12,000 and the max residency was 6--that would mean each fratboy would pay $2,000, making it out of reach for a typical fratboy.
  10. why dark interiors? with a large floorplate, you can create very nice, spacious units and even 4,5,6-BR units which are really hard to find in the city. Such units are virtually non-existent in the city, yet there is obviously some demand---those people are just pushed into single-family units whether they want to be or not.
  11. @KJP"The buyer's name was revealed by the sources but asked that it not be publicized for the time being. However, the buyer is from out-of-state, showing the growing interest by outside investors in Cleveland real estate." That's very gentlemanly of you. However, if Bluelofts is giving interviews to Crain's and not anonymously, you may as well as mention them by name (as people WILL look for it). If you don't share it, you'll lose the edge on your cutting edge journalism, as that information is already out there in the public domain. Third sentence in the Crain's article: "In interviews with Crain's, the co-founders of Bluelofts Inc. of Dallas confirmed that they've signed a contract to buy the 16-story structure at East Ninth Street and Lakeside Avenue." https://www.crainscleveland.com/real-estate/texas-based-group-has-residential-vision-vacant-45-erieview-tower
  12. In Dallas, it looks like they'll put a FLOOR of apartments wherever they can find a vacant floor in an office bldg: "We want to put these units wherever we can find a vacant floor of offices," said Bluelofts' partner Ike Bams. "There is a shortage of urban residential units.... Working with a German manufacturer, Bluelofts has created a modular "box" for its apartments that includes the kitchen, the bathroom and all the plumbing. "It's a plug-and-play approach," said Bluelofts' John Williams. "This box has a bathroom in the inside and a kitchen on the outside. "It comes prebuilt and plugs into the building systems," he said. "We don't have to drill through the floors....." https://www.dallasnews.com/business/real-estate/2018/11/21/empty-office-floors-will-become-bluelofts-live-work-centers-in-dallas-towers/
  13. This is a very interesting comment. Why do you think this is? Is it because local, corrupt officials know they can shake down local/cleveland developers, but can't get away with it with out of town developers, so the delays caused by threatening to deny a project or something doesn't happen with (or to) Chicago (or other out-of-town) developers? Or is it because most delays are caused by lack of money that CLE developers face and Chicago developers can raise (or have) cash more readily? Or some combination of these two suggestions?
  14. TREO apartments ready to rise Initial units to be ready Fall 2022. Apts will be studios and 1- & 2-BRs. "The developer planning TREO, a five-floor apartment building in Cleveland, has closed on almost $33 million in loans and started clearing its site at West 25th Street and Columbus Road. A former auto repair shop on the southeast corner of the intersection has been already demolished. Construction workers are starting to excavate the site for an underground two-level garage, according to Adam Friedberg, a principal at Mavrek Development of Chicago...." https://www.crainscleveland.com/real-estate/treo-apartments-ready-rise
  15. Thanks for that background, though I think the demonstration may have been in earnest--Tober, the previous CEO was in the video so it looked like the video was made before Calabrese came to power. Is the new CEO any better though? I heard she's not any different than Calabrese when it comes to rail or making any real improvements.
  16. So what happened? RTA--at least back then--had the initiative--proved the concept, created the video to sell commuter rail, which would have done wonders for Cleveland. But no service was started--why not?
  17. ^They were made "complete" by extrapolation, I believe. Though undercounting would explain why 2010 to 2020 represented the slowest growth since the 30's--because the overall number is far smaller than it actually is!
  18. Ah, unfortunately, you are correct. I just read the find print: "Dates are subject to change."
  19. Great graphic by NPR on how the new electoral map would have affected the 2020 election if in place at at that time. Biden still would have won, but by three less electoral votes: https://www.npr.org/2021/04/26/983082132/census-to-release-1st-results-that-shift-electoral-college-house-seats
  20. Important dates: County population and demographic components of population change - May 4, 2021 City and town (incorporated place and minor civil division) population - May 27, 2021 https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/popest/about/schedule.html So the county data is only 8 days away!
  21. There could well be population growth in NEO! If we were undercounting Ohio by 110k, I'd like to put 90k in the city of cleveland, 15k in suburban cuyahoga, and 5k in the rest of the state.
  22. Thanks. But "evaporating economic opportunities for those in the lower economic brackets" is probably an issue everywhere, no?
  23. Why did Illinois lose people? It's strange for any state to lose people, but I can kindof see WV and MS, but would not have expected IL to lose people.
  24. I was close---Above is what I said on March 7th!
