^Thanks. I couldn't read the site because of the rude in-your-face blockup that appears. I guess the site is Canadian and they're controlling the information here. Bad news for the workers of the Kansas City Southern. Canadian greed--though rarely discussed--is ruthless. Any of the back office jobs KCS had, if not eliminated, will be sent to India.... The block up to the webpage is the tip of the iceberg....

will it be a US or a Canadian company? Does it matter in terms of regulators/approvals? For example, you could never have an airline that is US-Canadian.
  3. @KJPanother two questions---so will the red line still have high platforms and shaker still low? And what do you call this new hybrid---will the Red Line still be heavy rail and the shaker light rail? Or will the entire system be some other classification?
  4. ^Thanks. So why is this a good thing? The Red Line subway-like cars are very cool and durable-looking--and look like other big cities. The shaker line cars are clunky and feel like a small town. Is this only so RTA can buy more of the same type of cars---more economies of scale? Or is there another benefit?
  5. How would this work? The red line platforms are high and the shaker ones are ground level. Would the cars have two different sets of doors? And then wouldn't stairs be required inside the train car so the person gets to the right level?
  6. On LinkedIn, someone's region is based on what zip code he/she enters for himself. If you enter anything 441-- that's Cleveland. If you enter, e.g., 44312 (Akron), it shows up as Akron OH. If you live in 44012--which is Avon Lake---but clearly part of the Cleveland market---it shows up as "Avon Lake OH". If it were me--and I lived in 44012, I would put 441--something, so it shows up as Cleveland, and not Avon Lake. How many people do that though? Or is LinkedIn actually taking the Avon Lakes of the world and using it in their "Cleveland" definition? Probably not. But given that Avon Lake does not get classified as "Cleveland" automatically and many people may not go out of their way to make this distinction, that means the "Cleveland" numbers that Linkedin uses are probably 441xx people, which is most of Cuyahoga county (it excludes only a few communities like Berea and Chagrin Falls, which are 440xx). So that's good--that means the real locations are Cleveland proper and the Cuyahoga suburbs---not the sprawland of Medina, Geauga, etc.
  7. wasn't Bank of America announced for this location as well?
  8. More depth of analysis is needed. At this time, many people can work from home. So the location of home doesn't matter. But rent is real--so paying $3,000 in NYC vs. $1,000 here makes a difference. When the pandemic is over and some of those 'work from home' jobs return to the office, will those people return to those cities or will they instead look for--or have already found--new jobs based here? Not to be downer, but its too early to celebrate yet and there seems to be no analysis at all of the data other than a person changed their city location from one place to another.
  9. ^The Director of City planning, is Freddy L. Collier: [email protected] The emails for all staff members of city planning can be found at https://planning.clevelandohio.gov/directory.html -- just hover over anyone's name and you can see their email address. for the landmarks commission, I don't have their emails other than whats posted above. But since they serve in the public interest it should be public knowledge---if anyone has these, please add to the list below. Landmarks Commission Members Michele Anderson Adrienne Bailey Giancarlo Calicchia, Vice Chair Freddy Collier Jr., Director of City Planning -- see above Allan Dreyer Basheer Jones, City Council -- see previous post Robert S. Strickland Raymond Tarasuck, Jr. Julie Trott, Chair For city planning---is there a City Planning Commission that oversees the City Planning Commission, with the second being the City Planning Department staffed with city planners (yet called commission)? Anthony Coyne was chair of that (1st listed) commission. Why do we have two bodies in town by the exact same name that do very related things??? How do we find a list of who is on the Planning Commission (not staffed as part of the city planning department called commission)?
  10. ^two?! how about two hundred! I guess 9 is better than zero.

Why does a Dem (or anyone) need SE Ohio? Asking earnestly here. It has a very low population compared to the counties around the 3C's + the rest of the state.
  12. Elected people like Kerry are compromised from doing the right thing as they always think of re-election. That said, we should all write to him DIRECTLY (not on facebook) as well as to each of the members of Design Review and Landmarks---again, to each person directly, as that carries more weight than a simple message on fb or a group email.
  13. Channel 19 is bit out of touch here in the article: Northeast Ohio gets ‘game changing’ investment for high-tech startups Ohio’s Third Frontier program will invest $46 million into 100 small companies The story is about making CLE a hightech center in medicine. They praise the company "CoverMyMeds" and the story photo has a giant building of theirs. They say, "An example of how the money works: In 2008, CoverMyMeds was a small Twinsburg health care software company working with insurance companies. It received Third Frontier funds and recently sold to McKesson for more than $1 billion and now employs thousands of Ohioans...." That part is all good and well. But then they end the sentence with "building a new headquarters in Columbus." So this small Cleveland company got lots of public money, grew significantly, then left Cleveland for Columbus. So let's profile this company on a story to make Cleveland a medtech hub!" https://www.cleveland19.com/2021/03/18/northeast-ohio-gets-game-changing-investment-high-tech-startups/ Did a bunch of people from cleveland.com move over to Channel 19?
  14. ^That's disappointing.
  15. Today is the 19th! Is it on the agenda?
  16. Nice use of natural light. I haven't seen that in a grocery store before.
  17. @KJP-- what do each of the colors represent on your maps above? The Terminal Tower makes FAR MORE SENSE for an amtrak station than the Lakefront as train stations are supposed to be in city centers---hence the difference from air travel. Though the current lakefront location is Downtown, it is still a hike from the center of things and feels very remote. You can't "go next door" and grab a beer or a burger.
  18. The Library is MIDBLOCK on the north side of Euclid between 105 and Stokes. To the west is the American Cancer Soc. And to the east is Fenway Manor. Both are existing bldgs. The co-urbanize info that says: "What's There Now The site is currently The American Cancer Society building." is wrong. Who puts projects on that website? If a developer, why would a developer do it? Are they forced to by the city? The site seems like a way to invite Nimbys (like for that project on Fulton in Ohio City), and with the cover of anonymity that you don't have in public meetings.
  19. CPD's "no chase" policy does send the wrong message to criminals. In this case, police did chase and it ended successfully--one person caught, other got away, but hopefully they'll get the other person through the person caught. Not sure why someone being chased think they're better off on foot than in a car, though!: "Patrol officers then spotted the stolen car and began chasing it. Someone in the car fired shots at police, but then, the people inside got out and ran. Police quickly arrested one suspect: just 14 years old...." https://fox8.com/news/i-team/watch-shots-fired-at-cleveland-police-during-chase/

^First Energy's greed and incompetence caused a multi-day shutdown for Cleveland and the entire east coast a few years ago. And don't forget their latest scam, getting Ohio taxpayers to pay $1.3B to pay the for-profit corporation for their nuclear issues and bribing the state legislature. I wish all of the city was CPP. CPP and the city have their issues but they don't include bribery and illegal activities. Even if CPP is not a "money-maker" its still preferable than giving money to a company and its shareholders who just spent $60M in a major campaign to buy legislation and f@#$k the people of Ohio.

    ^Without question, a good thing.
  22. ^Thanks. Good to know---I'll be sure to stay clear of the local "NELSON" branch.
  23. ^Isn't 50 Public Square Terminal Tower? That would be an easier address for dispatch to give out than 50 Public Square!
  24. The Westin is saved! Westin Cleveland Downtown will stay open, as a court-appointed receiver takes control "The 484-room hotel, one of downtown Cleveland's largest, won't close this week after all. Late Wednesday, March 17, a Cuyahoga County judge signed off on a receivership that will pave the way for an infusion of cash into the property, which is the subject of a foreclosure fight...." https://www.crainscleveland.com/real-estate/westin-cleveland-downtown-will-stay-open-court-appointed-receiver-takes-control
