I wish CLE had a decent local paper again...

Cleveland: Cleveland Clinic News & Info
Why would you possibly think there would be world class hospitals in the South? There are probably thousands of confederate flags still flying down there, and if not outside, inside people's homes, proudly displayed. The south certainly isn't a place of modernity or one open to ideas and equal treatment. That said, in the Top World hospitals list (which counts 200 hospitals) there is one hospital in Florida--the Mayo Clinic - Jacksonville at #82. and Emory University Hospital in Atlanta ranks "101-200". California has 10 hospitals on the list, of which Stanford Hospital is #13. There are three Ohio hospitals on the list--CLE clinic, Fairview (in West Park), and UH. (@X's comment to which you responded was only on the top 10 of the world's best, not the full list of 200.)

Cleveland: Local Media News & Discussion
More utterly laziness and sloppiness from the PD / cleveland.com. Waiting on Michael Stanley to die, they had the caption ready to go except the final details of on what day and how old he was on that day. When he did die, they were so excited, they released with image and caption, but didn't bother to fill in the blanks.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
^Welcome to 1975!

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
I think of it in terms of density--whether population density or economic density (like jobs) or activity density (shops, restaurants, people walking around, etc.)----given a piece of land say 500' feet along any street---the higher you go, the more residents/office workers, etc. you can place on that piece of land. So, yes, bldg heights in The Flats may not impact the skyline, but it will impact density, which will in turn impact how lively the area is and how safe and interesting it is.

Just came across this job posting for Stark: "Director of Land Acquisition for AL, NC, SC and GA. Stark Enterprises, a successful real estate developer with a diverse portfolio (www.starkenterprises.com) and over 8 million square feet of residential, mixed use, retail, office, student housing, and hotel space, is preparing to launch a new residential community concept. Initial states includes Florida, Alabama, Georgia, North and South Carolina. "It's All About the Experience" and we will deliver."

Cleveland: Housing Market
^$103k for CLE seems low given what's been selling in the past four weeks.... would be interesting to see the Average East Side vs. Average west side within the city over the past x weeks, or by neighborhood. But in any event, nice to see CLE getting positive news to drown out the #1 USA poverty city news.

Well, that's disappointing. I knew we lost the cinema, but now a shorter bldg with fewer units......The previous plan was 325 units--any idea how many there will be under this version? Happy to see the street-level retail kept.

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
Yeah....Its almost like saying, "Looking at the population from a broad perspective, in 2020, the United Stated had approximately zero covid deaths, but experienced only 3,340,000 new lives (births), compared to 3,840,000 births in 2019, a 13% reduction."

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
The article says: The region created 8,528 jobs in 2020, and: By the end of 2020, employment in the Cleveland-Elyria MSA had fallen by 88,438 jobs, or 8.8%, from December 2019 So if we say the NEW jobs in Line 1 above are ONLY in the five counties, then the NET LOSS of jobs in the CLE MSA was 80,000 for 2020. If some of those jobs were in Akron or Youngstown--as line 1 does say "NEO", then the NET LOSS of job in metro Cleveland would be larger than 80,000.

no---that list that shows UH and Fairview are for the US---not the world. Impressive, still. This is the US (not world) list: https://www.newsweek.com/best-hospitals-2021/united-states. To see the worldwide list, go to https://www.newsweek.com/best-hospitals-2021. On THAT one Fairview and UH rank as "101-200".

Not necessarily. The medical community, hospitals, doctors, etc. treat people like crap or medically wrongly EVERY DAY. I've been in a similar situation---and thought of filing suit as well. I've talked to a bunch of lawyers and each one said the same thing---"did the person die? No? Is there is permanent, irreparable damage? No? then no real case here"..... hence doctors/hospitals get away with such crap all the time as there's nothing you can really do about. Call the media? yes, but people don't want that personal exposure usually, especially when they're sick or injured, so this crap goes on every day.

Oh my, that's horrible. I've heard in general that Southwest isn't a good place to go, but never heard specifics like that. Glad your mom ultimately ended up okay--as I was reading, I was afraid the story was going to end tragically. I'll stay clear of Southwest!

Piece of history--a year after cleveland clinic opened there was a major fire that killed 123 people. I had never heard that before. Another fact: the Clinic employs 67,000 people worldwide. https://wkyc.com/embeds/video/95-b82d31e2-a219-4b54-9150-55f2c45c2650/iframe?jwsource=cl

Great article! I liked: "Magellan-Weston tower -- 310 St. Clair Ave., about 30 stories" A nice surprise--to me, at least. @KJP -- it should be West St. Clair, no?

I haven't heard anything about the library either. But looking at project diagrams, the two--the library and the first 24+ tower--do not even touch each other, so one could start without being dependent on the other, no?

I missed that posting about the March groundbreaking. That article and posting was from December. And its March now, so......is it still on target for a ground breaking this month?
