@KJP---so that street in your image that goes off to the left---that is Hudson Ave west of E. 105? Has construction also started on that roadway or just the apt bldg? Also, so "Innovation Square" will be the intersection of E. 105 and Hudson? Is that a real, city-designated place or just the name of the development by the developers?

The Official *I Love Cleveland* Thread
That is strange. OK, 2006 was 15 years ago. But it seems, at least in the past ten years or so, that the number of, and success of, Cleveland jokes has been diminishing in recent years. I have no data on that, just what I've heard--or haven't heard--over the last 40 years. Anyone think that is accurate? or are there as many CLE jokes as ever?

Amazon
I'd like to know this answer as well. Additionally, I've almost been hit while driving several times by those Amazon drivers--are they are just horrible drivers (and/)or just reading their phones instead hurrying to find the next address---again, under significant time pressure that Amazon puts on them or are they just a little dim themselves? Either way Amazon abuses them by making them contractors, not employees, so if they do kill someone with their dangerous driving, Amazon can say, 'hey, its not us---he's now our employee, he's simply a contractor'. As you can tell, I don't support Amazon either, and since Bezos bought Whole Foods, stopped going there as well even though I had like that store.

Cleveland Mayoral Race 2021
I know a lot of people on UO like Justin Bibb. I personally don't know much much about him. In any event, Kevin Kelley has a bigger war chest, at least as of now. Cleveland Council President Kevin Kelley leads pack of potential mayor candidates in money race "Cleveland Council President Kevin Kelley, who is expected to formally announce his bid for mayor soon, has more $500,000 on hand for the race, according to his most recent campaign finance report filed January 26th at the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections. He raised $217,000 for his mayoral bid in the most recent reporting period, which ended December 31st, according to his paperwork.... Non-profit executive Justin Bibb, who formally launched his campaign last month but has been raising money for months, reported having nearlty $160,000 on hand. He raised $26,000 in the most recent finance cycle, according to his paperwork...." https://www.wkyc.com/article/news/politics/cle-council-president-kevin-kelley-leads-pack-of-potential-mayor-candidates-in-money-race

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
News about the SHW bldg keeps getting worse and worse. Move-in date aside--i'm not as concerned with that as I am with what kind of skyscraper we're getting. So rather than a 60-70 story tower on Public Square we get a 50,000SF "Center of Excellence (CoE)" which is probably less than ten stories tall? And the real bldg is only 30-35 stories tall located on W3 instead of Public Square? Does the city or anyone with a urban design sense have any input or influence on the SHW execs? What's next, a rendering of a suburban box with a giant set back with a green strip of grass in front along W3 and Frankfort? And the box is just 18 stories tall and takes up the whole block to W. 6 and St. clair---green grass set backs on all sides with no street level retail?

^Huge screen? I thought "ESPN Cleveland" was a radio station. I guess I'm not really familiar with that this location or concept actually is. Where is it now? Can the public go in a grab a beer? So its more than a regular radio station studio?

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
^A radio station instead of ground floor retail -- like a coffee shop, restaurant, bar, deli, or other store??? Ugh....where are they moving from? I get why TV stations like ground floors but radio stations don't get that benefit.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
That's great---that the space once set for one business will be for three separate ones. Rents will be smaller which makes the business more viable. And if one business fails there wont be one giant space vacant. Less likely that all three would fail at the same time. But more importantly, many small businesses (restaurants and otherwise) vs. a few giant ones is what makes neighborhoods interesting and dynamic and more fun to walk through.

Cleveland: Port Authority News & Info
Was just about to send that article to someone until I read it---it puts CLE as one of TWENTY ports......how many large inland ports are there anyway? So it just lists basically every port. Cinci, Pittsburgh, Memphis, Detroit...even Tulsa, Oklahoma is on the list.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
If that restaurant would be in the Illuminating Bldg (55 Public Sq), I'd get the name, but otherwise, its pretty unimaginative---but its still a heck of a lot better than the previous restaurant name "Chicago's Home" of whatever. Nice to see the space reused and hopefully they'll open as covid is mostly behind us so they won't open and then fail.

Miscellaneous Ohio Political News
Supporters and perpetrators of Trump's "massive voter fraud" claim have no place in public office--at any level. Kim Veras, a councilwoman from Brecksville (https://www.brecksville.oh.us/City Hall/council.html) is amongst them and has got to go. She KNOWS Trump's claims of fraud "are "credible." As a Trumpie at the city level--she will push divisive policies in Brecksville. “Those of us who have repeatedly led grassroots campaigns and Election Day volunteer efforts know that the charges of massive voter fraud made by President Trump are credible,” Veras, Sciria and other members of the Cuyahoga Valley Republicans Board of Trustees said in the Dec. 31 letter. “It is remarkable that so many Republican leaders don’t see it.” https://www.cleveland.com/community/2021/01/political-firestorm-erupts-after-brecksville-councilwoman-planning-commissioner-sign-letter-supporting-donald-trumps-election-fraud-claims.html According to the Brecksville City Council site, Kim Veras's term end 1/1/2022, meaning she's up for re-election in Nov 2021. She ran in 2019, so apparently she only got a 2-yr instead of 4-yr term even though she was an incumbent. The Brecksville City Charter states: The terms ofCouncilmen shall be staggered. Four (4) Councilmen shall be elected at each regular municipal election held after November 1957. Of the four candidates so elected the three (3) receiving the highest number of votes shall each serve for a term of four (4) years and the one (1) receiving the next highest number of votes shall serve for a term of two (2) years. (https://www.brecksville.oh.us/City Info/PDFs/Policies/Brecksville City Charter.pdf) We must remember her as the Nov 2021 campaign season begins to remove her from office.

Greater Cleveland Taxation
^Thats why i stressed its not a map of RATES but just what is paid. The tax foundation COULD have crunched the data and produced a more meaningful map. They already have how much tax was paid -- just divide it by average market value of a home and produce that map. ("Assessed value would cause headaches as assessed value means different things in different state, so market rate would be better.)
-
Greater Cleveland Taxation
sorry--i meant CLE has deals with some suburbs, and maybe not with others---i didn't mean to suggest that there is one consistent deal or rate between CoC and all the burbs. Plus there are also suburb-to-suburb issues as well.

Greater Cleveland Taxation
On the topic of property taxes, this is an interesting map. It shows median tax paid in 2018---its not a map of tax RATES--but actual amounts paid, 2018, 5-yr estimate. That blue spot near columbus is Delaware County at $5348. Cuyahoga is $3126. Map source: https://taxfoundation.org/where-do-people-pay-the-most-in-property-taxes-2020/

Greater Cleveland Taxation
Yes, Cleveland has deals with its suburbs if you work in the city and live the burbs. If however, you work in the burbs and live in the city, you pay income tax (as its income) to where its earned, the suburb, and then you pay residence tax or something to Cleveland. After all, you are using city of cleveland street lights, streets/pot hole repair, potentially emergency services, etc. so you should pay SOMETHING to the place where you live (city of cleveland in this case). I don't know the actual details on this, but am interested to know if anyone has that info.

The 20k jobs were 10k directly related to the projects and other 10k induced by them like--I assume restaurants, laundromats, etc. If the first 10k are all in the city, that a nice boost--it represents a 3.7% increase in jobs in the city proper. Hopefully all these innovation jobs will be in the city.
