  1. Here's the jist: "CrossCountry Mortgage's planned headquarters move from the suburbs to Cleveland's Superior Arts District got a boost Monday, Jan. 25, in the form of tax credits tied to growing employment. The Ohio Tax Credit Authority approved an eight-year, 1.655% job creation tax credit for CrossCountry, which is currently based in Brecksville...." This is good news. Not counting "future jobs", how many existing positions are moving from Brecksville to Downtown once the office opens?
  2. Nice, original naming. The Cleveland Innovation District announced today should not be confused with: The Cleveland Innovation District underway at 66 St. and Euclid.
  3. what's a new "Lyft Center"-- where lyft drivers will stage like at Hopkins?

Per the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections, he's a Democrat. He seems like he has national aspirations. More money and backing and infrastructure for him as a Dem (or a Rep) than as an Independent.

^Such a stand up guy. "Jackson was charged late last week with first-degree misdemeanor domestic violence in Cleveland Municipal Court in a domestic dispute involving him and his child’s mother, according to court records. A warrant issued Wednesday says Frank Q. Jackson “did knowingly cause or attempt to cause physical harm to the mother of his child.” He is accused of hitting his child’s mother in the head several times, “causing her to hit the couch and fall on the floor,” the warrant states."
  6. How common is it for people to come to CLE because we have (some form of) skiing here? Was that family just a one-off or it a 'thing'? Is this a result of the sale to Vail Resorts that CLE is now on the national skiing map?
  7. ^Ha! would be nice. But all public sector jobs and major non-profit/CDC jobs that work closely with the city/county in this town go to friends and other very connected people in or to those organizations. It would be nice, though, if we really could get new people with new ideas in these positions.
  8. ^If its those 4-story bldgs in the middle of the image, that's pretty decent looking. And if its on the square at least its not more sprawl.
  9. I hope that they will have exceptional ventilation. Lots of dogs + Indoors (+ summer) = great smelling air...
  10. I know Eaton Corp officially moved its HQ from CLE to Ireland to evade US taxes, but didn't realize that Steris did as well. From Crain's today: "STERIS plc (NYSE: STE), the Dublin-based maker of sterilization products with U.S. operations headquartered in Mentor, has agreed to buy Little Falls, N.J.-based Cantel Medical Corp. (NYSE:CMD) in a deal valued at $4.6 billion...." https://www.crainscleveland.com/health-care/steris-agrees-buy-new-jersey-based-cantel-medical-deal-valued-46-billion?utm_source=afternoon-report
  11. The new Ethiopian place on Lorain at Rocky River Drive---Haesha---is really delicious. Took food to go from there the other day. The strip they are on has quite a nice collection of restaurant choices: Ethiopian, Thai, Mexican, and perhaps a few others.
  12. Just ate at this place a few days ago--taken to go, of course. Food was excellent. Highly recommended.
  13. ^There's green grass behind it. SHW will be in the center of the city----it must be taller. that photo demonstrates that 29 floors wouldn't fit here.
  14. ^Who is on the Review Board? We should all send emails to these individuals--and to any decisions makers at SHW---pressing the importance of a grander, taller structure.
  15. SHW's "primary goal" is likely new, modern offices. But I disagree with your argument. When you make an investment, whether $1M or 10M or in this case $600M---you can do more than one thing. At that level you can fill the lots (even if some part is a small park/greenspace) AND create modern offices AND build a 70+ building AND add Downtown employment AND add more street level retail. Every major project should do more than one single thing. ESPECIALLY when there is public money in the pot.
  16. 27 + 20 stories is SOOOOO disappointing --- and especially for a Public Square address. So much for making a grand, physical statement. Even 37 + 10 would be better....but if they need/want only 47 stories, they could still build a 70-story bldg with putting 23 levels of hotel in the bldg---with separate entrances, lobbies, and elevators---to the public it would have two distinct street entrances but to the world it would be one grand bldg.
  17. Its fine to compare one city's MSA pop in 1950 with itself in 2019--but comparing Cleveland to places like Columbus or Pittsburgh isn't that meaningful as the Cleveland MSA doesn't account for all of Cleveland.
  18. ^I saw that this morning. At the first few lines I was expecting it to be an article about the gun violence and stresses in cities across the country, but no---the article was exclusively focused on what's happening in Cleveland.

Is Jackson really thinking of running for a 5th term? He said in 2017 that THE ONLY REASON he was running for a 4th because there no one capable to hand the reigns to--Zack Reed and Jeff Johnson were considered the top two leading candidates at the time.
  20. Much of the anecdotal stories here about people moving to CLE are from NJ or NY state or other older places, not sunbelt cities. I just looked at the WSJ article posted a few posts ago. Yes, Cleveland has more outflow than inflow in the LinkedIn analysis, but Cleveland's ratio of people moving in vs. moving out is higher than that of Chicago, SF, and NYC. Here's the chart from the article:
  21. ^Cool---I like that it is hidden, too. That should be a city-wide rule!
  22. ^It looks like RDL Architects is the architect. See the image at the top of this page: https://www.cleveland.com/business/2018/11/student-housing-expansion-percolating-in-university-circle.html. Apparently based in Shaker Hts: https://www.rdlarchitects.com/
  23. ^Who is the architect of that monstrosity? Its important to know....especially if any of us are ever in the position to hire an architect for a project, but also, so we can be on high alert if they are hired for any major project in the city--to get the owner to state their design interests early on and not to let the architect just 'do its thing'. Its the single ugliest new residential construction design I've seen in at least 30 years.
  24. ^Is it renovation of an existing FM office or just a 'renovation'? if the latter, maybe they are planning a move from North Olmsted. Just looking at their sites---of the 10 or so cities I clicked on on the map, they show only one location in each city and each office is in a suburban location, not in the central city. So a move from N. Olmsted to Downtown would different for them, but may be the start of a national shift for them, who knows. Either way, space for 150 employees downtown, if new space, is great news. https://www.fmglobal.com/about-us/office-locations
  25. What's on the second and/or third floors of Church & State covered by the green bird art---is that parking? giant windowless gym?
