Yes, that is true. Lorain has the preferred benefit of being on the water, whereas Elyria isn't. But if Elyria turns itself around and starts booming, Lorain City will certain benefit. Also, this thread is about Lorain County and not Lorain City.

Looks like the new Lorain sign is working! Developer plans esports hub, offices, housing in downtown Elyria "....Flanigan, who controls much of three blocks on Broad Street, is cobbling together a $35 million deal. A pair of historic buildings will hold an esports venue, with offices and podcasting and broadcasting spaces upstairs. On a vacant corner to the east, at Broad and Washington Avenue, site plans call for a 51-unit apartment building — a rare ground-up construction project...." https://www.crainscleveland.com/real-estate/developer-plans-esports-hub-offices-housing-downtown-elyria
  3. I'm not sure where you stand on the events of Jan 6th -- it was a dangerous and illegal insurrection vs it was necessary protest to protect American Democracy (and the many 'interpretations' in between)--but in civil society, we have rules and procedures. Just because someone doesn't know the rules or understand them and acts inappropriately doesn't mean we should ignore them or give them an automatic pass. I realize that to call out his wrongdoing reflects badly on ourselves as, after all, we elected him and put him in office, so I understand the unwillingness of people to call him out on wrongful words or actions.
  4. Jackson was not insecure or clueless like Bibb. Its hard to find evidence of something that DIDN'T happen. (Prove to me you DIDN'T drive down X street on X day 12 or 15 years ago...). But this is not "something pretty inconsequential" If he was truly sworn in on Jan 8 ---then was the Jan 3 swearing in fake? So we had no mayor from Jan 3 to Jan 8 and he was acting illegally? No--he WAS sworn in on January 3---whether he liked it or not, that's the law of the city. So he held a fake ceremony on January 8. Now, while some may consider that fraud, the harm caused was not personal loss of individuals, but it was damaging to the image of the city that the mayor needs two ceremonies for his ego. He could have had this celebration event today--no problem. But to re-enact like a civil-war battle his inauguration and pretend its real and legal is inappropriate at the minimum, maybe illegal at worst--will let @YABO713and @LlamaLawyerand any other lawyers on this forum weigh in, with Yabo hopefully putting aside his support of Bibb and examine only the legal issue.
  5. @Luke_Swhat are you saying, that Jackson took the oath of office at the inaugural ball? I sincerely doubt that he did. Nor did Biden or even Trump at their inaugural balls. Inaugural balls are normal. Taking a fake oath of office in public is not normal or appropriate.
  6. And my fears about his mayoralty are starting to become real. I'll have my 30 years and can fully retire later this year (2022). So if things continue, I will absolutely leave. I will sell my house before its value drops too far. Yes, this was probably about his ego to have two inaugurations for the same term, but it shows we have a toddler-like leader who needs to see how much people love him. I may have a fuzzy memory, but I think we just got rid of such a guy from the White House about a year ago who was like that. How did those four years work out? How many extra covid deaths and suffering has America had as a result?
  7. "This is not unusual." What other mayor has had TWO oaths of office for the same term?
  8. Sounds like the 100-story ghostly hotel in North Korea that was finally finished but never had a single guest. The hotel of Doom. https://www.insider.com/abandoned-hotel-north-korea-ryugyong-photos-2019-11#the-hotel-reached-its-full-height-in-1992-but-the-inside-was-never-completed-2
  9. Wow! I just watched part of it---he did a fake oath of office! He was already sworn in on January 3rd. WTF? Does he really think no one remembers or that Clevelanders are too stupid to know any different? I get beat up on this board for saying anything less than glowing about Bibb---but this is not opinion. See the link posted by @Boomerang_Brianabove---he does a BS oath of office. What would compel him to do such? Ego? Cluelessness? To mock the system like he's superior? More than ever, I truly believe we are in for a rocky four years. Lying on the RTA ethics form, recently offering condolences to the wrong person while trying to look mayoral, and now taking the oath of office for his own ego or whatever when it serves no legal or official purpose?

This will definitely turn things around in Lorain.
  11. What is this? Wasn't the inauguration on Jan 3 when he took office?
  12. Thanks. Interesting list. Of note, of the long list of tallest bldgs under construction, only one--chase bank in NYC at 63 stories--is in the US. Most of the list (probably 90%) is in China. Also on that same list, looks like Saudi Arabia is trying to beat Dubai to have the world's tallest bldg with the Jeddah Tower at a full kilometer in height versus the Burj's 829.8 m.
  13. Cleveland Planning Commission OKs plans for Baseball Heritage Museum expansion, retail "A three-building project in Cleveland's Hough neighborhood will give the Baseball Heritage Museum more leg room and bring small-scale retail to East 66th Street and Lexington Avenue. The Cleveland City Planning Commission gave an early thumbs-up to the development on Friday, Jan. 7. Members of the project team described the plans as very conceptual — and contingent on the acquisition of three vacant parcels owned by the city's land bank. The $5.5 million deal is being shepherded by the nonprofit museum; attorney Cassandra Manna; Ozanne Construction Co. Inc. of Cleveland; and Signet Real Estate Group, an Akron-based developer that is active in Hough and Midtown. Plans drawn up by City Architecture show 27,000 square feet of buildings west of League Park, the museum's longtime home...." https://www.crainscleveland.com/real-estate/cleveland-planning-commission-oks-plans-baseball-heritage-museum-expansion-retail
  14. What station is that---Tower City?

Funny---I read the URL link and thought, man, $16M----those will be some really nice bathrooms! Then upon clicking the link I saw that it was $1.6M!

Eaton acquisition: "Power management company Eaton (NYSE: ETN) announced it has acquired Royal Power Solutions, an Illinois-based maker of electrical connectivity components used in the electric vehicle, energy management, industrial and mobility markets, for $600 million...." https://www.crainscleveland.com/manufacturing/eaton-buys-illinois-company-royal-power-solutions-600-million
  17. other factors would include, did Stark get the rents he wanted, how long did it take to reach near-full occupancy, frequency of tenant turnover, etc.
  18. Did Beacon underperform?
  19. I'd rather see residences and offices and hotels with lots of ground-level retail than some ballpark village. Use the land vertically--40, 50, 60, 70 story bldgs with all (I won't say any) parking underground.
  20. An article on some interesting Cleveland-based tech start-ups: "As the new year begins, we at Cleveland Inno have assembled a Startups to Watch list: 14 up-and-coming companies that have shown early signs of promise. Our list features startups across a spectrum of industries, from fintech to baby tech and from medicine to education...." https://www.bizjournals.com/cleveland/inno/stories/awards/2022/01/04/startups-to-watch-in-2022.html
  21. ^great photo. Grey steel, grey skies.
  22. @KJP Also - perhaps Bedrock's plans for Tower City if that qualifies. Not sure if there is any major capital work involved in that project or if it's more about marketing, strategy, or use changes.
  23. Two items to consider for your list: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Expansion Renovation and expansion adding 50,000SF of programming space and a new band shell overlooking Lake Erie. $100M. Also, isn't there new office development around E 66 and Euclid complementing the new CLE foundation HQs? Not sure if is significant enough for the list.
  24. ^never heard of that business before; its great that they are in 55 Public Square and inDowntown in general. It shows the elderly are still coming downtown for things!
  25. I am giving him a chance---a number of my other posts stated such, but they were deleted. I obviously want him to succeed for the sake of our city. But this analysis of yours is not correct: I wrote: "He's definitely better than a buddy of Bibb's or an inexperienced (in airports) campaign worker, but its certainly not the type of change that Bibb promised" You wrote: "So if he keeps people in place he's not bringing change, but if he replaces anyone they're his buddy or don't have experience themselves? This is an unreasonable standard. Who do you want him to appoint?" I never said if he replaces a person, that new person is his buddy. I said Kennedy is better than a buddy of his (unless that buddy really is an airport person). Bibb promised change. That means a new, qualified leaders in each area of expertise. A new, qualified Director for public health, economic development, airports, etc. Keeping Kennedy---who was pretty good, but could have been way better for international and even some domestic routes and some things at the airport itself means no real change on the airport or air service front. No change for the better and Bibb promised change. My point was that Kennedy is certainly better than giving the job to someone who knows less about airports, like a typical campaign worker or buddy of his--unless that buddy is a real aviation person. But to live up to his promise, he should bring in a new airport director who is better than Kennedy who will bring about the change he talked about. I don't remember Bibb ever talking about Hopkins, so he didn't make promises about the airport specifically, but promised good changes for the city as a whole, and the airport plays an enormous role in how the city grows--so you can't have the best cleveland ever without making some changes at how things are at the airport. I am giving him a chance and I want him to succeed. Decisions like this one though are tough to swallow and, as you said, we're only a few days into his administration. I also realize he's a young and inexperienced guy, so will likely be learning a lot along the way, so things should hopefully improve as he learns more and more.
