Tx. Never heard that name before. Is it really old or someone trying to do some unnecessary branding?

That's great to see new places opening up. What is "Clifton Corners"?

The Flats is a place that has various parts East Bank is different than West Bank and both are different than the flats that are south of, say the Lorain-Carnegie parallel. I think you are confusing SPA's with "neighborhoods". they kindof align but don't really. Certainly "Little Italy" is a neighborhood. Yet it's not an SPA. Certainly the FLATS exist, yet its not part of Downtown. Playhouse Square is a neighborhood within Downtown, just as is the Warehouse District or Gateway.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
That's not true. For city planning purposes, the city created SPA's for planning and data comparisons. You're talking about SPA boundaries. Not real 'places'. Little Italy is a real place, but its part of "University" for planning purposes. University Circle is a real place, but viewing only through SPAs also doesn't exist. Its called "University". But in terms of real neighborhoods/places, Downtown ends at W. 9. Otherwise, under your definitions, the Flats don't even exist.

^No, that Flats are NOT Downtown. The flats are the valley BELOW downtown and lie between Downtown and the west side. The western-most Downtown Street is W. 9. Both sides are Downtown. Once you begin to descend the hill towards the river, you're in the Flats.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
^I hear ya. The minute the announced hub closure in 2014, I refused to use them for any location where I had to connect---if I had to connect, I took AA or DL. If it was a city like LGA or DCA where there were options I always took the non-UA carrier. I took UA only when it was the ONLY non-stop in the market, such as to IAH. Given reasonable choices I'm not giving UA another dime of my or my company's money.
-
Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
A lot of people in CLE probably still fly UA because their companies have corporate contracts with UA--so they don't have a choice. But this is changing as some companies are moving away from UA. Plus, with the dropping of two key business locations--LGA and DCA---and earlier, BOS--- we're likely to see many more companies drop crappy UA. If employees have to lose time connecting somewhere, there's no longer a time difference between UA, AA, and DL, so its better to go with who is offering the better deal. If a CLE company has a lot of travel to say, Houston or Suburban Virginia or Chicago, they may keep UA, but if the destinations are diverse hopefully, they move to AA or DL.

Lakewood: Downtown: CASTO Development
^Well CLE needs it too as it lost over 1,000+ jobs over the years to the burbs (and China and Mexico and Alabama....) and of course, people could still LIVE in Lakewood while working in Ohio City. Lakewood would still get tax revenue from such people even if they work in the City (CLE would take 2.5% and Lakewood would take around 1.5%.). But either way, it'd be great for a new HQ to move to the area, whether CLE or Lakewood. I'd take either....but not Brecksville.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
^"...There will soon be two three story buildings right on the river going by the name of the Riverfront Restaurants! The East Bank skyline will look very different in the near future!" Ha! I never heard of "three story buildings" and "skyline" used together in the same breath.

^thanks.....so this is the 2nd tier cities tour, I see....CLE, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Atlanta..... Looking at the 2019 lIst, https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/rolling-stones-rescheduled-dates-no-filter-tour-836010/, two nights in Jersey, but no NYC. Is that typical of big rock bands to not play in New York? Die hard fans will of course travel, but many others wouldn't leave NY for NJ unless they really had to.

Cleveland Burke Lakefront Airport
Pennywise and pound foolish----is your cheap company making you travel on your own time? otherwise it doesn't make sense to spend an extra 6-9 hours roundtrip for Cleveland-Cinci to save, what, $120-$130? Either they don't respect its employees time (and quality of life) or they lack an understanding of the value of company time and productivity. Or maybe just an incompetent bean counter. UltimateAir - $428 roundtrip---50minutes roundtrip Driving: 500 miles on CLE-CINCI x 57.5 cents/mile IRS rate = $288. 7.5 hours on the road roundtrip. Connecting--maybe costs $300, door to door with connection assuming NO delays - approx 8-10 hours roundrip

I stumbled across the Rolling Stones' 2020 US tour details and there's something very strange about the list. Here it is: May 8: San Diego, SDCCU Stadium May 12: Vancouver, BC, BC Place May 16: Minneapolis, U.S. Bank Stadium May 20: Nashville, Nissan Stadium May 24: Austin, Circuit of The Americas May 29: Dallas, Cotton Bowl Stadium June 6: Buffalo, New Era Field June 10: Detroit, Ford Field June 14: Louisville, Cardinal Stadium June 19: Cleveland, FirstEnergy Stadium June 23: Pittsburgh, Heinz Field June 27: St. Louis, The Dome at America’s Center July 1: Charlotte, Bank of America Stadium July 5: Tampa, Raymond James Stadium July 9: Atlanta, Mercedes-Benz Stadium (https://www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/music/2020/02/06/rolling-stones-2020-no-filter-tour-dates/4676860002/) Only two cities western cities San Diego and Vancouver (plus texas)---no LA, SF, Denver--and then no Toronto, NYC, Washington, Philly, Miami, Boston. Anyone know why this is?

Cleveland Burke Lakefront Airport
DL and CO both served CVG-CLE when each had a hub in CVG and CLE, respectively. With both hubs gone, so too are those flights. Ultimate Air is the only nonstop between the two cities. I've taken it and its a great service. Fly it and you'll see the great value of BKL.

Cleveland Burke Lakefront Airport
Ultimate Air's most popular route is Cleveland-Cinci--BKL-LUK. They are adding a 3rd daily frequency effective March 16. This is the new flight: Departs Lunken: 11:45 a.m. Arrives Cleveland: 12:40 p.m. Departs Cleveland: 1:10 p.m. Arrives Lunken: 2:05 p.m. https://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2020/02/07/ultimate-air-adds-new-nonstop-at-lunken-expands.html

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
^OK---i guess it matches the west side of w.6 in terms of height, though the portion facing Superior should certainly be higher to match bldg heights (to the red bldg and the Rockefeller bldg). Retail along w. 6 is key.

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
^I don't like the utlra-low turquoise massing. I hope that's not accurate of whats to come. Also, I hope there's retail along that long wall on W6.

Cleveland City Council
^Great list, thank you. Its amazing how SMALL LA's city council is--only 15 people. NYC at 51 seems about right. St. Louis at 28 reminds me of how CLE used be at 33 when I was growing up. The responsibilities of cities varies by state----so comparing CLE using per capita to places without home rule or where its not practiced won't give very usable outputs.
-
Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
^Wht f@cking spin! It's big news that a company DIDN'T leave Cleveland.
-
Cleveland City Council
^Thanks. With the seats tied to population, is there a cap? That is, if we had 200,000 MORE people, do we then have to add 8 more council people? I definitely like the idea of a council person being an advocate of a given area---that's how legislature should work. Imagine if Congress was at large, who would look out for North Dakota? But the idea of a few 'at-large' seats are interesting too as it may serve as a better check on the mayor and also individual council members that may be doing shady things---it would allow other council people 'access' into that once-protected ward. Looking at the number of council people by city, there's no way CLE should go from 17 to 9. We are fine with 17--and that's a bare minimum--i'd say we were better off with 21.

Cleveland: Public Health
A new case is being tested in Ohio for coronavirus. (The 2 Miami Univ students were cleared.) They state won't say where in the state the new case is. This only makes sense to me if its a tiny town with one Chinese person and everyone in that town knows he/she just went to China--in which case, identifying the town could be identifying person. But if the case is in any of Ohio's cities, it makes no sense and seems like an unnecessary heavy hand of government. https://odh.ohio.gov/wps/portal/gov/odh/media-center/odh-news-releases/odh-monitoring-pui-2019-novel-coronavirus

I noticed when I went to pick up Chinese food the other day from a place I go to frequently, the place was dead--and its usually very busy. I hope a lot of Chinese places don't end up closing. ^I've tried to keep my comments as they relate to Cleveland---and certainly tracking the progress of cases worldwide- relate to Cleveland as it is only a matter of time til we have cases here. And as well, this thread is for the flu and any other public health issues in the city. But the coronavirus in particular as a public health issue will impact Cleveland's economy, particularly in the manufacturing sector. (PS--thanks for writing--nice to have some kind of response on this thread given the magnitude of what is happening and seeming indifference.)

We know we can't trust the numbers out of China---they wouldn't lock down 60M people for a couple thousand cases. The real numbers--potentially accidentally (or not) leaked out of Taiwan--as this past Saturday--show the REAL death toll may be 25,000, with 155,000 infections. https://www.taiwannews.com.tw/en/news/3871594 Also: Wuhan coronavirus crematoriums 'working 24/7' burning ‘100 bodies a day' insider claims https://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/world-news/wuhan-coronavirus-crematoriums-working-247-21434630 A flight tonight from Seoul to Las Vegas (KE5) stopped in LA to let off three pax suspected of having the coronavirus. The plane then continued onto LAS. So are the other passengers now infected? Will they be quarantined or free to walk about the US? https://www.ktnv.com/news/3-korean-air-passengers-on-flight-to-las-vegas-removed-from-plane-in-los-angeles

Cleveland: TV / Film Industry News
I agree with @GISguy---s "small town" is not about the exact population, but being the "main place" with nothing around. Hough has only 16,000 people, but its clearly not a "small town". Maybe Wooster was a bad example. A better one may have been Mayberry. In any event, no suburb of any city is a 'small town'. that's just sloppy or ill-informed writing by the PD.
