  1. GDP growth rates 2017-2018 by each Ohio County and Ohio--Toledo beat Cleveland and Columbus! Source: US Dept of Commerce
  2. Metropolitan GDP numbers for 2018: (EDIT: Corrected from earlier) Akron MSA $36.8B Cincinnati MSA 141.1B Cleveland MSA 134.4B Columbus MSA 129.3B Cleveland Metro 171.2B Change from 2017 to 2018: Cleveland Metro 1.8% Columbus MSA 1.9% Cincinnati MSA 1.7% Breaking down Cleveland Metro into its two MSAs: Cleveland MSA 1.9% Akron MSA 1.7%
  3. Does Tesla sell through dealerships like the other car makers? If so the reporting wouldn't matter as its coming from dealerships not the manufacturers themselves (unless tesla doesn't allow its dealers to divulge sales data).
  4. what's the bad news?
  5. ^I agree with that logic. But what I don't agree with--and this is true for probably all cities--is that Downtowns are not necessarily circular in shape. NY is more oblong (north south), Cleveland is more oblong (east-west---say E. 18 to W. 9). Cinci may be more E-W as well--since the river flows that way. Not sure about Columbus. Chicago is more N-S than a circle. So a circle around a Downtown these doesn't really capture an even "buffer" of x miles around a Downtown. It'd be more accurate if you outlined the downtowns and THEN drew a shape--of the same shape--around the downtown at various miles out.
  6. You could probably do Lisbon, Madrid, Amsterdam, or Paris with a Max 7, especially in the summer, and likely in winter (denser air) as well. Max 8 would be pushing it.
  7. ^Depends on which 737 Max and also some other factors--so its not just range and distance, weather, elevation, max takeoff weight (including fuel weight) also affect possibilities. The two parallel runways at Hopkins are 770-786 ft above sea level. Use the max range numbers above. Here are the raw distances as a plane would fly given the curvature of the earth for various cities. Don't forget a safety margin for bad weather, wind, etc. CLE-LHR 3,253 nm CLE-LIS 3,249 nm CLE-DUB 3,012 nm CLE-SNN 2,934 nm CLE-CDG 3,421 nm CLE-MAD 3,428 nm CLE-BCN 3,627 nm CLE-AMS 3,408 nm
  8. ^Check out Limelight at 25th and Jay.
  9. ^ CLE-FCO is 3,995 nm. The 737 Max 7 max range is 3,850 nm, Max 8 and Max 9 are 3,550 nm, and Max 10 is 3300 nm. But you must also account for season, airport elevation, and some other factors. But despite these, its still not possible given these numbers.
  10. Re Cleveland, Public Square may be the symbolic "center" of the city and of Downtown, but its not the physical center of either. Regarding Downtown, Public Square is fairly west of center. Do a goole aerial view of Downtown CLE and you'll see that the center would be to the east of Public Square.
  11. Interesting video---though no one is working everyone is just walking around!
  12. ^Whats that almost vertical line over the shoreway? Is it a pedestrian bridge? I would be great to have a bridge there with 3 access points---the Downtown area on the bluff at E 17 or 18, a connection to the shops, and at the north end BKL----it would connect three important things that are otherwise not connected at all.
  13. 120K isn't so much, actually compared to what we once had in the city.... This table and text below is what I posted in the Cleveland Population thread on Sept 26, 2019, below. Its not the full Cleveland metro--just the city and Cuyahoga County. "The one set I did look at was on citizenship to see the number of non citizens and naturalized foreign born to get a sense of ethnic diversity of Cleveland. Our numbers are really low, unfortunately--only 5.7% of the city at 22,000 people. I then also added PR (US citizens) which contribute to the diversity and helped our numbers a bit."
  14. ^I was talking from a prestige address. But beyond that--in terms of something more tangible---they may be able to attract more talent if they were downtown vs. broadview hts. If I were in that field and were offered two jobs---one downtown and one in the southern burbs, if all other things were relatively equal (pay, benefits, good boss, good co-workers, interesting work, etc.), I'd take the one downtown in a second. Of course, land is far cheaper out there and they probably own their own bldg with parking in front, etc. I get it. I was referring to their image and "importance" factor. And being medical, University circle would work too. Fairfax, less so. Also, if they were in UC and surrounded by like companies, there may be some synergies as well. They probably don't get much interaction with others out in Broadview Hts.
  15. ^how are they using it right now?
  16. Speaking of Cleveland companies---I just met someone last week from a giant, impressive firm I never heard of: Sotera Health---apparently its the parent of three other companies and is based in Cleveland (in Broadview Hts.) This is ONE of the three sub-companies: Nelson Labs: "We are over 850 scientists, technicians and service specialists diligently performing more than 700 rigorous microbiological and analytical tests in 13 global laboratory locations." Would love to see Soltera in a proper Downtown office space. A global company like that needs a more prestigious address than Broadview Hts! https://soterahealth.com/
  17. ^for some reason, I can't see what Murray Hill said---the text box is empty. Anyone else have this issue?
  18. I totally agree this and it drives me crazy too when people keep pushing the 6th city garbage. We were also 7th, 8th, 9th---why not use one of those too?
  19. Fortune 500 company HQ is coming to downtown Cleveland "Coming to" suggests movement. Cliffs is already here. I still think your headline is misleading. Your work on top notch on-target and so I would hate to see any credibility taken away from you for a 'Grab your attention' - type title. The only thing coming/moving is Cliffs' place on the Fortune 500 list.
  20. ^Ha! I stopped using Jakprints after they moved out of Downtown to Lake County. I use Hotcards now at 24 and Superior. They do a great job!
  21. ^Okay....but you said, ""another Fortune 500 company will establish its corporate headquarters in downtown Cleveland." Are you referring to Cliffs? If so, I get it now--they were a Fortune 1000, but now will be a Fortune 500. But its confusing as Cliffs has already "establish[ed] its corporate headquarters in downtown Cleveland" - the real change is they are joining the 500 list.

With the Cliff's acquisition of AK Steel and with the latter's large Middletown works to continue operations, but likely AK Steel HQ staff moving to CLE, we may see increased demand for Cleveland-Cincinnati traffic, meaning more pax demand on Ultimate Air's BKL-Lunken services.

It seems our Burke Lakefront Airport thread disappeared. It looks like someone had changed it from "Burke Lakefront Airport" to "Burke Lakefront Airport - Ideas for Alternative Use". What about topics about the airport itself (plans, funding, operations, etc.) and services and investments there? Its an open and operating airport with NO PLANS for closure, so changing the topic from Airport to Ideas for Alternative Use is not appropriate. I remember seeing the "Burke Lakefront Airport - Ideas for Alternative Use" topic and its lively conversation at one time, which is fine. But it should not REPLACE the main "Burke Lakefront Airport" thread.
  24. ^So what's the new Fortune 500 company moving its corporate HQ to Cleveland?
  25. ^Well, UA has made many, many bad decisions in the last 15 years or so---and got lucky with marrying up with Continental. Lets hope that this decision, at least, will at least benefit Cleveland in the process.
