  1. KJP: "another Fortune 500 company will establish its corporate headquarters in downtown Cleveland." I thought Cliffs is acquiring AK Steel. So Cleveland Cliffs may get more people, revenue, office space needs, etc. through the acquisition, but no new company is moving its HQ to Cleveland in this deal as AK will cease to exist, no? Am I missing something here?
  2. ^Think of it this way: When CO had 757s from CLE to CDG and LHR, some people still preferred to fly to EWR and connect because from EWR, you got larger planes. Now, if East Coast-Europe is on a single aisle plane, a single aisle plane from CLE is no longer a comparative disadvantage.
  3. The new owners aren't tearing down the old saigon plaza bldg are they? that photo looks nothing like the building looks now.
  4. ^Saigon Plaza WAS a party/event center. They're not tearing down the original building are they? I hope not. Also, related, did Hawken find a different location or change their minds about having a place on the West Side?
  5. Someone should inform the new President about this -- she may not even know -- but she should jump on this kind of behavior early on--of course, unless, that approach IS her style, in which case we're in real trouble.
  6. KJP---[bold added above] -- are you referring to the EB-6 program? why is it no longer available?
  7. ^That is true---but why would the film have the wrong uniform? I've never seen that before in any major film. Its not hard to make a fake police patch for a film---its done all the time.
  8. ^maybe. But, with (eventual) growth, after the one tall bldg is built, other buildings by other developers will follow...But you're not going to knock down one of the new 20-story buildings in a few years to build a 90-story one. Also, from afar, one can't see the 20-story bldgs, only the taller ones.
  9. ^Its really RUDE of RTA to make a statement like that. You'd think the new president would be more conscious that that. This just says, 'Screw you, you're don't need to know, cause you're unimportant."
  10. I get that--I was referring to people who said they wanted "density" which they claimed would not be afforded by a very tall skyscraper.
  11. It seems a few posters don’t really understand the concept of “density”. These folks are saying, a 90-story (or so) building is bad, we need a bunch of shorter buildings so we can have “density”. The amount of land is fixed. So if you have a 90-story building, you can STILL HAVE a bunch of shorter buildings as well, meaning you will have MORE people/activity per square foot on the ground with one 90-story and eight 20-story buildings (for example) than you would with nine 20-story buildings. The only time you wouldn’t is if you built a stupid park around the 90-story building which I don’t think anyone is advocating. So we’re better off with a very tall skyscraper, as only that will allow for maximum density and it will also provide the benefit of adding to our skyline and image.
  12. ^Looks like a good film. I want to see it. Was that cop in the trailer supposed to be Cleveland PD? Wasn't even a CPD uniform. Though I guess anyone outside of Cleveland wouldn't know that, but if it is supposed to be CPD its strange they didn't bother to get the patch right? Imagine NYPD Blue with some strange non-NYPD patch?
  13. Are they all for-rent units or are some for-sale?

First of all--that's a huge TV! I have no idea if prices will drop after Christmas, however--and I realize this is probably the worst day to walk into a store---but the day after Thanksgiving is supposed to be famous for 'deals' and Best Buy and other large retailers and probably no exceptions. So if you're so willing this Friday, pop into Best Buy and see what they're asking for that TV as you may find some weekend deals.
  15. I think the Global center is connected to the convention center and the convention center is connected to the Hilton. I don't think there is a direct connection between the Hilton and the Global Center. Also not sure how the passageway works--is it 24/7 access or is it only when there is an event at the Convention Center can one walk from the med mart to the hilton---that part I am not sure about. Not completely helpful, I know...
  16. Hardly worth the benefit you get in lieu of a more impressive, noteworthy 90-story tower. If you want sunshine, go to a farm in Medina County.
  17. ^Never heard of it, but always great to see new museums popping up in the city. Old Brooklyn is transforming into an interesting place in the last few years. There's now an Ethiopian and a Jamaican restaurant there -- I want to try out both of them.
  18. Non-stop to Los Cabos: Vacation Express offering CLE-SJD next summer. Operated by VivaAerobús. Finally some Mexico that is not Cancun! 6-Night Vacation Packages ▪ Departing Sundays ▪ 5/24/20 - 6/28/20 https://www.vacationexpress.com/cleveland-los-cabos-vacation-deals/
  19. Beginning June, UA will fly a 3rd daily on CLE-LAX.
  20. I totally agree with this and I've noticed it as well and was quite disgusted. I get it that people like sports, so if we were in Columbus--its the local team. But OSU is a college team---and this is Cleveland--we should be focused on more grown up things than a college football game.
  21. To me, Austin is still in Texas. I'd never live there.

Interesting article from NYT about how the percentage of the population that moves each year has been steadily decreasing and is at the lowest point ever over 70 years. "The United States has long been one of the most mobile countries in the developed world. In the 1950s, about one-fifth of the American population moved each year. When factories would close, workers would move to other parts of the country to find jobs in new ones......These days, rents in many larger cities have exploded, making it much harder for a young person seeking better opportunities to afford to move. And low-wage jobs, after adjusting for the local cost of living, pay about the same everywhere. The result is a nation where people move far less than they used to: Just 9.8 percent of Americans moved in the year ending in March, according to the newly released data. That was the smallest share since the Census Bureau started tracking it in 1947, and the first time it had fallen below 10 percent, said William Frey, senior demographer at the Brookings Institution....." Interesting the article includes anecdotes of three individuals--and two are Ohio stories. The other example is from West Virginia. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/20/us/american-workers-moving-states-.html
  23. Does Spirit cancel flights for whatever reason like Frontier does, stranding people for 2 -4 days til the next flight that has space? I've heard about Frontier doing this, but never Spirit---that's one reason I never have flown Frontier at the fear of being screwed at the last minute.
  24. It was obvious WAY before the merger, despite any lies UA may have to told the DOJ. The entire point of airline mergers --UA & CO, DL & NW, US and AA---is to gain market share and increase profits by cutting routes and jobs and forcing more passengers through fewer hubs. The minute CO saved UA through the merger, UA had already had well-developed plans to kill its CLE hub. Yes, the Ohio AG made some noise but that was utterly pointless. The AG said, you must maintain routes and jobs for two years. UA said sure, no problem! Cause it takes at least two years to integrate the two companies. It even took longer than two years. But, once in the clear, the ax fell. The Ohio AG thing was totally meaningless-- not sure if was a real sincere attempt at something (didn't seem like it) or just a publicity stunt (probably).
  25. ^Don't blame UA for the second one? The Dept of Justice didn't tell UA to close Cleveland. It was entirely the idea, objective, desire, and decision of United to screw Cleveland. The US gov't didn't force the merger, United wanted it.
