Cleveland: Is Cleveland in the Midwest?
An article today in Crains, "Yes, Clevelanders, you are part of the Midwest" talks about a CityLab survey of12,000 people about what makes up the midwest. "Chicago, at 99%, was nearly unanimous in being viewed as part of the Midwest, as were St. Louis and Indianapolis (both 98%); Kansas City, Mo. (97%); and Columbus, Detroit and Milwaukee (all 96%). Cincinnati was at 92%. Cleveland, meanwhile, was at 84% — solidly Midwestern, but with some people, apparently, thinking of it as more of an eastern city. Cleveland is not, though, among "places where people are more divided about their alleged Midwesternness," Montgomery notes. This includes "cities like Pittsburgh and Buffalo, New York, where respondents were torn between Midwest and East Coast allegiance..." Was just curious to get the opinions of those here. Do you think Cleveland is the Midwest? I've heard some say the Cuyahoga river is the border. The East Side is the "east coast" of the US, while the West Side is the Midwest.

^Cool, thanks. For SW, what is the height you're using in those sketchups?

Ohio Transit Funding
Yeah, we were about to have that with the 3C railway and the Obama administration gave Ohio some $480M or so for it. But then the people of Ohio elected anti-3C Kasich who returned the money so now Ohioans are paying for rail in other states so those states are more competitive against Ohio (and we help them be so).

Cleveland: Rocket Arena (Gund Arena)
^oh man. I was just looking at the photos and was happy to see the street-level retail (Discount Drug Mart)--only to learn its not real. That's very disappointing and misleading. Imagine if you saw that from a distance, needed a store, and walk over to it in the freezing cold, or hot sun, or rain---only to find its the name of the doorway or whatever. Pretty strange/bad design.

^Ah, thanks! As I typed that something felt strange, but couldn't quite place it. I'm dating myself. Garrett Morris was from Saturday Night Live back in the day.

Oh no.....two posts like this within 24 hrs. Are these simply indicative of things at these two companies, reactions to fears of recession, or are things really already slowing down? Hopefully the first one....

Cleveland Development Map
^got it, thanks. So it will be a "campus" for the new Garrett Morris School of Science and a new school I presume yet to be named. That's good. I hated the "West Side HS" name. So two schools.

Cleveland: Mayor Frank Jackson
^NPR this morning said he had no comment or something like that. Unless he himself is implicated, as mayor, he has the obligation to say something when this kind of things happen at this house. NPR also said some vehicle was towed off the property as well.

Great photos, thanks ASPhotoman. The place looks really nice. And you were able to capture a flying saucer over the city in Photo #3--I knew they were real!

F9 just announced a 15 city expansion from (and market entry at) EWR. Cleveland wasn't one of them. If they were trying to build a hub here, certainly NYC would be an important market. The lack of EWR-CLE proves nothing wrt a future hub, but its not supportive of growing traffic to/from CLE. The EWR destinations are: Chicago, Denver, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Ontario, Dallas/FW, Atlanta, Raleigh/Durham, Orlando, West Palm, Miami, Tampa, Cancun, San Juan, and Punta Cana.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
^ACS is a lagging number, its only a survey, and ACS counts PEOPLE not transit trips, so its not a 1:1 comparison.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
Hey YABO713---was thinking about your bad neighbor problem. Why not reach out directly to the owners of the house---who gave these people a lease---and complain to them directly? And have all your neighbors do it as well. And repeatedly. And you're a lawyer, right? Tell them if they don't pull the tenants in line (or evict them) you'll file suit again them (the owners) for nuisance or loss of enjoyment or rights to fully use your property or whatever. And all your neighbors as well. Basically, go after the property owner. Dealing with the low-lifes directly won't get you anywhere (except maybe a few smashed windows one night) and the city itself has bigger problems. Hope this helps!

Cleveland: Festivals, Music Concerts, & Events
Looks like a cool event. Cross-posted in the 'I Love CLE' thread as well. THE LEVIN COLLEGE FORUM - CSU LEGACY CITIES: CONTINUITY AND CHANGE AMID DECLINE AND REVIVAL BOOK RELEASE FORUM TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 2019 | 4 - 6 PM Legacy cities, also commonly referred to as shrinking, or post-industrial cities, are places that have experienced sustained population loss and economic contraction. In the United States, legacy cities are those that are largely within the Rust Belt that thrived during the first half of the 20th century. In the second half of the century, these cities declined in economic power and population leaving a legacy of housing stock, warehouse districts, and infrastructure that is ripe for revitalization. This volume explores not only the commonalities across legacy cities in terms of industrial heritage and population decline, but also their differences. Legacy Cities poses the questions: What are the legacies of legacy cities? How do these legacies drive contemporary urban policy, planning and decision-making? And, what are the prospects for the future of these cities? Contributors primarily focus on Cleveland, Ohio, but all Rust Belt cities are discussed. Open to the public and free to attend. Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
This is interesting. F9 could certainly use an eastern hub---they only have Denver--whether or not they transition out of being an LCC or not. They certainly were the airline that responded quicker than any other to fill the void in CLE after UA's dehubbing--beating out Southwest who was incumbent and Spirit. But Concourse "D" alone though would make for a fairly small hub operation though. Hopefully the rumor will amount to something. Southwest clearly has shown a lack of interest in CLE, and we're not likely going to get a hub from DL/UA/AA, so I welcome Frontier!

^I just googled "Landmark" and restaurants and there are two by that name: one at E 54 & St. Clair and another at W 117 and Clifton. https://www.landmarkbreakfast.com/location.php https://www.landmarkcleveland.com/

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
There's a restaurant on the 8th floor of the Republic/Midland Bldg (I can't call it "Landmark")? Is it open to the public or just SW employees? If public, what's it called and is it any good? Is there a view?

Electric Scooter Sharing
Love them or hate them, scooters are back in Cleveland. As of today, Bird is back. The City allowed four scooter companies: Lime, Spin, Veoride, and Bird. Bird can also rent e-bikes. https://www.crainscleveland.com/scott-suttell-blog/ready-take-flyer-again-bird-scooters
