Columbus: General Business & Economic News
So 77% of Columbus' budget comes from income taxes, yet nationwide the number is 8%. From where is most of a city's money coming from in other cities--corporate tax? property tax? the State? Also---how does Columbus' 8% compare to--if this is a state issue--Cleveland and Cincinnati?

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
Why is "Internal Affairs" a civilian position? Doesn't that make it impossible for cops to move over to IA without giving up their badge and gun (which cops, of course, don't like to do....) "The city of Cleveland announced the selection of its first police inspector general, Tuesday, Aug. 6.Solon Police Department's chief of police, Christopher Viland, accepted the position, although his employment won't be finalized until after the city's "routine administrative procedures." The civilian position is a one of the changes suggested in the city's 2015 federal consent decree...." https://www.crainscleveland.com/government/cleveland-names-first-police-department-inspector-general?utm_source=people-on-the-move&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=20190809&utm_content=article5-headline

Aren't there more words around to name things than only a few? This is called the Hive? Not be confused with the TechHive on 68th and Euclid.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
There is some chatter about CLE landing Aer Lingus for CLE-Dublin service beginning Summer 2020. AerLingus typically announces their new summer schedules in the preceding late August/early September timeframe to push marketing, ticket sales, etc. So if the rumor is true, we should know relatively soon.

Cleveland: Downtown: Skyline 776 (City Club Apartments)
Nothing stops all or some apartments from being for sale and others being for rent. But I know most people associate the word "apartment" as a for-rent unit as opposed to being a living space within a building. Ultimately though, they'll probably do whatever they've done in their other cities as they seem to have a model that works--and when it doesn't--as in St. Louis--they unload it. Anyway, though I would hope at least a few floors are for-sale units, even if not, this is great news! Thanks for the scoop @KJP!

"22-story City Club Tower going up on the Hippodrome lot" -- is that an official/announced height or just your wish?

Cleveland: West Park / Kamms Corners: Development and News
There's good street level retail and street life in that area. This being the Clinic now, I truly hope they don't just sh*t all over the neighborhood and tear existing buildings with street level retail in them to replace them with cold glass blank wall.

Cleveland: Random Development and News
500 sq feet really is enough space for anyone. I know plenty of people who have lived in smaller spaces, plus millennials are known for having less stuff than the previous few generations. But ultimately, price drives economic activity. A lot of people would like to live Downtown but can't afford $2000/month--which comes with space they don't need but its the cheapest out there. Many would gladly pay $1100 for a smaller place if it were Downtown.

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
I'm always leery of Cleveland tech companies led by bosses in more tech-savvy cities: "Convelo Therapeutics, a Cleveland biotech company, has entered into a strategic partnership with San Francisco-based company Genentech to develop new therapeutic drugs to repair damaged myelin insulation on nerve cells for patients suffering from neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis, according to a news release.....Located within Cleveland's BioEnterprise incubator space, Convelo is led by a management team based in Boston and San Francisco..." https://www.crainscleveland.com/health-care/cwru-spinout-convelo-partners-san-francisco-company-develop-medicines-neurological

^Cool---can't wait to read it. More for-sale units downtown has been an interest/desire of mine for a long time. Thanks for writing on the topic.

Cleveland: Downtown: Playhouse Square Development and News
If all this condo talk is real and ends up with condos that would be truly great for the City and we'll see even more people Downtown as those 'excluded' (because they would rather buy than rent) may have some options. I hope the offering include units larger than 2 br, as once families have a second kid, it would force them to move out.

^Not to mention the wrong zip code for the warehouse district prominently displayed as 44121 (instead of 44113) if you click on the image on this page: http://www.realife-group.com/projects/stark-building-oh/. Opportunity Zones
"A new study from the Urban Institute, published today, looks at three different cities — Washington, D.C., Cleveland, and Fresno, California — to examine the question of whether the zoning inside their Opportunity Zones already reflects the needs of residents and businesses in those areas." https://nextcity.org/daily/entry/nows-the-opportunity-for-cities-to-work-on-their-zone-defense?utm_source=Next+City+Newsletter

Hey rockandroller---Great paper, i just read it. I remembered your name (rockandroller)--you were a regular contributor on this website, but I hadn't seen your name in long time and actually thought of you a couple of months ago (something about the aggressive homeless people around 13th and Chester). Glad you're still around! I liked your essay and I hope that it leads to a good, full-time work somewhere, from reaching the right person!

Just moved to Columbus, Ohio...need help adjusting
It was a Union (US) prison---not a Confederate prison---to hold Confederate POWs and others. Ohio was a free state. On the topic of the Underground Railroad, Cleveland play an important role as well. While the tour cited in this link is past, it lists key locations and places: https://frontart.org/event/cleveland-underground-railroad-bus-tour/

Cleveland Burke Lakefront Airport
^Imagine if we also closed down Hopkins--we'd have lots of open land to develop--Downtown and the west side. After all, we have the County Airport, that while it can't even handle the larger aircraft from Burke, is itself under capacity which must mean it take all kinds of planes.

Cleveland: Juvie Hall
The new superintendent of Juvie Hall is out after being on the job for five hours. Did he get a call 5 hrs in that he got a better job that he had been waiting on somewhere else? Did he see something horrible that he couldn't stomach or didn't want to have to deal with? Did he fired very quickly? Official reason, "he “realized his heart just wasn’t in it”....can't even take a full day and spend the night to think about it? Something is fishy about this... https://www.news5cleveland.com/news/local-news/oh-cuyahoga/his-heart-just-wasnt-in-it-juvenile-detention-center-superintendent-resigns-after-5-hours
