^There's more to aviation than runway length. You think people in those far east suburbs want daily jets including occasional 737s, 757s, etc. flying close to their homes? Plus its far from Downtown. Cleveland needs to grow. Killing a viable airport that is the 6th or so busiest in the state is not a method to accomplish that.

This is entirely not true. Many of the planes that use BKL could not use CGF. Not all planes are tiny turboprops or small business jets...
  3. ^did summit and portage become part of Cleveland MSA?
  4. looking at the drawing, so much for restoring Abbey Ave to its proper alignment. Its really horrible the destruction to the city's street grid over years--this area is one of the worst for the city in terms of destruction.
  5. I tend to share that sentiment... However, at a certain point, we have to become a bit of a bully regionally. Columbus or Pittsburgh would have no issue doing it to us. I know we all think of Akron as this massive suburb, but it's still a regional competitor - albeit much closer than any other metro. I want what's best for Akron, as the people in that town are great. But hey - I'll take business from anywhere. Also, our "little brother" down the road would happily take from us. Don't forget our "little brother" helped kill the UA hub in CLE by their campaign to steal passengers for years from Hopkins--even putting up signs in Downtown Cleveland slamming Hopkins for people to use CAK.
  6. They should have used green for the red or swapped red and blue. The red just highlights that those cities are less than 1 time per day, as they didn't want to say 0.5 or 0.2 flights a day....
  7. How or why is this unfortunate? This is a good thing. Also, is Myers a Fortune 500 or 1000 firm?
  8. I've used Jakprints a few times; I'll probably never use them again given this move out of the city. Hot Cards is at 24th & Superior. I'll go there from now on.
  9. Just same across something about "The North Coast College" and had never heard about this school before. Looking at the address, it looks like its the former Virginia Marti School of Design (https://www.thencc.edu/) and they still offer fashion in their curriculum.
  10. There is a profound unmet demand for downtown housing that is for-sale. If a developer were to find some creative financing other than typical banks which hate condos, the downtown population would be growing even faster and we'd likely already have 30-35k people between the river and the innerbelt right now. I'd live Downtown, but as an owner, not by paying $30k-$40k a year to a landlord. In 12 years, that's a half a mil down the toilet. I'm sure there are many others who feel this way.
  11. ^Thanks!
  12. wasn't that a Wonder Bread store or something?
  13. A progress photo. Never posted a photo before so I hope this works. Shot this past Wednesday, 9/5.
  14. Getting old and cranky I guess, and less tolerant of shoddy work.... Interestingly, on Chrome, the website says, "Posted Feb 28, 2011" but on Firefox it says "Updated March 4, 2011 PM; Posted February 28, 2011". But in either case it should say in the date line "Posted/Updated whatever' Originally published:......1977" Its a 1977 article, not from 2011.
  15. ^Exactly. And if everyone knows RTA is a joke/is the problem/is corrupt/is incompetent, why make city [of Shaker Hts] policies based on it?
  16. ^I followed your advice to google. Why would the PD do this?: I see the date of Feb 28, 2011 and the headline: "Union boss Nardi dies in bombing" WTF--we had a bombing in 2011, like back in the 70s?!? I was taken aback. Really. Then I see this: "(Originally published in The Plain Dealer on May 18, 1977.)" I haven't even read the article yet I'm so distracted by this. Why would the PD do this? Is this to sell papers/get clicks? Just rehash old stories? I now the PD has been going downhill lately, but this? There's no paragraph even adding 'new information' even though that should be a separate--and newly dated--article. Any idea what they're doing? Will we see "AMERICAN AIRLINES HITS TOWER" at some point and then later see (originally printed sept 2001.)?
  17. I disagree that the developer would have sued and won, as its a ROW, and by asking about it, demonstrated their understanding of its relevance and future potential use. Federal funding eligibility is irrelevant--an extension could be built with non-federal funds if the community wanted it, just as it did with the Waterfront Line.
  18. ^Yes, that may be true. But that doesn't mean the city of Shaker Hts has to believe that Joe Calabrese will not only live forever but be in charge of RTA forever AND think that its a good idea to block the tracks. If I tell you i'm NOT gonna stop you from eating 10 pounds of spaghetti tonight at dinner, it doesn't mean you should eat 10 pounds of spaghetti tonight. Yes, Calabrese is a fool for saying that. But the bigger issue with with Shaker Hts who plans to kill the right of way even though it doesn't have to--it just wants to.
  19. The idiocy here is not Joe Calabrese is it? Was RTA going to build a building or parking deck to block its tracks from going further east? The idiocy or wrongfulness award belongs to Shaker Hts---they were the ones trying to stop transit growth by developing plans to put a building where future tracks would go. They're PLANNING to do that. They WANT that.
  20. ^Man, what a boring name for the school. "Near West High School" would be better.
  21. ^It wasn't always that type of theater--only in its final years. Floors were always sticky for some reason. A sample of the earlier years: http://cinematreasures.org/theaters/7458/photos/192840
  22. For those of you who don't remember or are too young, 811 Prospect was the Standard Theater. It showed "art" films in the 70s and 80s. It was eventually torn down and the current structure was built in its place. "This downtown Cleveland theatre, which was sort of out of the way on Prospect Avenue, was opened June 12, 1914 as the Standard Theatre. In later years it was mainly a venue for adult pornographic films, although it had shown mainstream films early in its life. The Standard Theatre closed in 1989. The theatre had shown black-oriented action films briefly in the early-1980’s. It was demolished in 1995."
