Cleveland Mayoral Race 2021
No. Tomorrow will tell who is more popular, not who is smarter. Remember a lot of people still vote along racial lines in this city and couldn't care less about platforms or issues or promises. I agree. City Hall has been visionless. Not much change from Kelley can be expected. But that's a lot SAFER than the damage that Bibb will do as he tries to--as he sees it---to make things better. He's clueless. I'm not a fan of Kelley, but I will take him in a heartbeat over Bibb. Tomorrow, I'm voting for Kelley, the far lesser of two evils, and who at least understands what is what and how the city functions. Fully agree on all of this! The commission would have appointees by the mayor and some from council. But these aren't police or public safety or HR or human rights specialists. They're just people who are owed a favor from the mayor or council. Final decisions about public safety or people's careers should not be made by these guys; they should be made by professionals or the commander in charge, which is the mayor.

Cleveland Mayoral Race 2021
Re Issue 24, no mayor should want it. Yes, we need police reform, but eliminating your own ability to get rid of officers--or lose good officers because regular folks who are not police experts say so--is outright silly. I think Bibb jumps on it because it SOUNDS good, but doesn't really understand what it means for him if he becomes mayor. I too, support, a better system of oversight and police accountability, but if Bibb were really a smart guy he wouldn't back 24. But the rest of your post is very telling. Thank you for sharing it. It underscores what I've been trying to say for months---Bibb is weak. He won't be able to stand up to shady developers or bad interests cause he doesn't know how and doesn't have the stomach for it. But worse, he doesn't always know what's bad. He's green. In the case above, he can't even stand up to his own supporters who are critical of something he wanted to do. And if he can't do that, how can he possible stand up to opposing groups or the state? I wish, but in the worst case, it doesn't leave Cleveland untouched or damaged. In the worst case, we will have long-term and potentially irreparable damage to the city. And he'd do it thinking he was doing good or he'd be steamrolled by something he didn't understand was bad and/or didn't have the chops and ability to fight. And that's the real danger with Bibb. Bibb is Dennis the Sequel, but he's not as half as smart as Dennis. At least Dennis knew what was what even if we didn't like his methods.

Sound of Ideas was talking about Issue 24 today. It dawned on me why Bibb supports it, even though it would limit his own authority over police if he should win. It's because he thinks it's a popular idea AND he doesn't really understand it (like most things), so he supports it. Just more evidence that he's clueless. If he wins tomorrow, we are in BIG trouble.

Bibb may be saying that because that's what most people want to hear or maybe because he thinks so too or maybe because he has no clue. Overall, on most topics, he has no clue that's for sure. In a political risky move, Kelley is telling the truth---it should be kept open and he would keep it open.

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
This is true, but all those are European cities--a very different animal than American cities with sprawl, high-car ownership rates, and crappy transit. In US downtowns, the higher the better; in outer areas 6 six stories works (though, unlike in Europe, it will is surrounded by a giant parking lot).

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
By nice, do you mean "squat"? There's nothing nice about a six story building Downtown. In the burbs, maybe, but not Downtown or University Circle or anywhere in between.

I was joking--about the 65-stories part. Though a nice tall tower would really put CSU in the skyline. The tallest I'd expect would be 20-22 stories, but I'd love to see a 45-story bldg. The top floor could be the President's Suite. Given that last piece, maybe they'd go for it!

^"Considering the parking deck would be shared, Cross Country employees would use the deck during the day and students attending evening classes would park there at night." Good use of a shared facility. Though the article referenced it, I wish it was stronger in the interests of the The Edge and The Langston developers/owners who would sell to CSU to build new (and bigger) off-campus (and non-CSU exclusive) housing to replace the off-campus housing that will be lost to the market. Also, once sold to CSU, I assume non-CSU student will be kicked out---which forces CSU students to move once they graduate even if they stay in Cleveland and like where they live, and also forces out people who live there but don't go to CSU right now. What percentage of residents in the Edge and Langston do not attend CSU yet live in those buildings?

Independence to Solon. Yet another suburb vs suburb story.... Kichler Lighting will vacate its longtime HQ in Independence "Kichler Lighting, a major employer in Independence, plans to empty out its mammoth headquarters next year — moving its corporate offices to Solon and relocating its distribution hub to Pennsylvania. The homegrown maker of light fixtures and ceiling fans confirmed Wednesday, Oct. 27, that it plans to vacate its longtime home, a 631,000-square-foot warehouse and office complex at 7711 E. Pleasant Valley Road. In a news release, Kichler characterized the decision as part of its "strategic plans to reposition its business for a dynamic future....." https://www.crainscleveland.com/real-estate/kichler-lighting-will-vacate-its-longtime-hq-independence

Rather than buying existing housing--which does not add any new units to the campus while also restricting housing from people who don't go to CSU yet want to live in the E. 20's (and currently can), CSU should build some NEW housing towers. There is plenty of nearby space. Image a new 65-story tower made up of dorms and apartments.

Of course, any CO2 impact means the tenants USE the rapid. Great access to the airport, public square, Little Italy, and the southern part of Case's campus. With the lack of rapid lines, the number of destinations without having to then jump on a shuttle/trolley/bus is limited.

New buyer for the Bond Court/Sheraton/Westin! though not completely a done deal yet... Connecticut-based buyer bids $40.2 million for Westin Cleveland Downtown hotel "A Connecticut-based hospitality company has agreed to pay $40.2 million for the Westin Cleveland Downtown hotel, after outlasting other potential suitors for the property. A court filing shows that HEI Hospitality Management LLC, the stalking-horse bidder that laid the groundwork for a sale in August, has emerged as the victor. The company, an affiliate of HEI Hotels and Resorts, has a portfolio of upscale hotels scattered across the country and describes itself as the largest independent operator of Westins. Adding the 484-room Cleveland property to that collection won't be easy. Court records indicate that the hotel's current owner, Florida-based Optima Ventures, plans to put up a fight.......The proposed sale is scheduled to close between Dec. 10 and Dec. 31." https://www.crainscleveland.com/real-estate/connecticut-based-buyer-bids-402-million-westin-cleveland-downtown-hotel

15 races to watch on Election Day "...Election Day 2021 is an “off year” across the U.S., and it has mostly drawn attention to the competitive race for Virginia governor. But there are other races across the country that are worth watching — and offer a preview of the 2022 midterms...." https://www.politico.com/news/2021/10/26/election-day-2021-governors-mayors-races-517145

Ohio Census / Population Trends & Lists
These claims that backwards states GREW is not evidence that backwardness does not keep people away, as such places could have grown far more had better policies and leadership been in place. Maybe Ohio could have grown by 1,000,000 instead of the few thousand that it did. Also the danger is, backwards people could attract more backwards people, making a place increasing less desirable for those seeking a decent place to live. In fact, we have at least two people above so far out of four, supporting with actual facts that backwardness DOES keep people away.

What is "an appeal to intuition?" My desire to not live in a place like Dallas and my intentional skipping of such opportunities to move there are facts, not an "appeal to intuition."

Ohio Census / Population Trends & Lists
Here is a fact: If i were looking to move, I would never move to [another] backwards state. I have looked at and wanted to apply to various jobs over the years, but the minute I saw they were located in an undesirable place, like Dallas, I did not pursue it. I'm certain I am not the only person in the US who thinks like this.

Ohio Census / Population Trends & Lists
While, of course there are differences between the two cities, not everything can be attributed to these differences. If there is greater demand for labor in one city over the other and new labor won't move to Ohio (because of backwards GOP leadership and legislators), then to meet that demand, labor will move from one city to another.

Ohio Census / Population Trends & Lists
Yes, Columbus grew, but Cleveland didn't. And Ohio only barely grew. How much of Columbus's growth came from out of state vs. from CLE or Cincy or Akron etc.? You want data on people who didn't move to Ohio because of its backwards policies and politicians? You know there is no database on people that did NOT make certain moves, let alone why. Move data is just that---data on people that have moved.

50,000?!??!? We can count the people in city and county jails, right? No federal detention center Downtown. Is there where federal detainees for Cleveland are kept? https://www.bop.gov/locations/institutions/elk/
