  1. ^and that CLE is FLAT while others are growing. THIS IS A MAJOR CONCERN. Yes, 2017 Cinci may be an anomaly, but the flat CLE number aren't.
  2. ^and of course, the plain dealer story doesn't even mention or perhaps even understand this issue----instead it writes a very positive article about 'growth'. https://www.cleveland.com/healthfit/index.ssf/2018/06/biomedical_investment_growing.html everything's fine and rosy!
  3. ^This is very concerning. If CLE's ability to grow and link to the future is in biomedical, we should see strong growth in this sector, but we're losing it--and once we're no longer on top (earlier only Minneapolis beat us), the money will flow to the other places. Chicago investment grew 300%--and Cincinnati 1100%--while Cleveland grew 8%?!? Do we need new leadership at BioEnterprise? New strategies? WTF?
  4. ^What the hell is happening? Is CLE losing its edge? Its lower than Cinci which two years ago wasn't even in the game--it was less 10% of CLE. This is a shocking wakeup call. ($M) City 2015 2016 2017 15-17 Change CLE 201 198 218 8% Cinci 19 54 223 1074% Chicago 217 324 854 294% Minneapolis 418 422 553 32%

^The dangers of a one-newspaper town....which, of course, is the current reality just about everywhere. Its particularly bad as its not just a 'private company' rather one that has the higher mission of keeping politicians in check from abuse of power ("Democracy Dies in Darkness as WaPo says) and thus needs an honest, unbiased discussion from the public without the paper taking sides. The comments section on the NYT site is good and adds to the article. But he PD certainly would not aspire to such.... Re facebook, I agree that people would be more civil or accurate if their identities were known; however, I don't think facebook is the way to go--as one can easily create fake facebook accounts, but also, if one did not want to do that, I don't think we should be saying, in order to participate in a public discussion hosted by the local paper, you must have a facebook account, as not everyone is a fan or uses facebook.
  6. But was Jaite a separate political entity (township or village?) as presented in the article?
  7. There's a pretty interesting photo collection and essay on the Cuyahoga River---today and the bad ol' days. https://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2018/06/cuyahoga_river_enjoys_revival.html#incart_m-rpt-2 About 10-15 photos into the webpage, this caption caught my eye: "Junked cars along the river This 1973 EPA photo depicts one of the last undeveloped areas alongside the Cuyahoga River -- near Vaughn Road in Jaite, Ohio, which is about equidistant from Cleveland and Akron. Even this area, however, managed to experience pollution -- in the form of junked cars that were left for dead along the river. (National Archive)" I've never heard of "Jaite, Ohio". Google Maps brings up "Brecksville, OH" when you search for Jaite. Was it a separate place in 1973 that was ultimately annexed by Brecksville?
  8. ^I share this view as well. They may have redundant functions there, but certainly not an extra 50,000 people.
  9. ^Ok, thanks. I don't feel so bad!
  10. "The insurer, with roughly 700 suburban employees, has signed a non-binding letter of intent to lease upwards of 300,000 square feet in Brooklyn." In what suburbs were MM's employees that will be consolidated at the American Greetings site? (Brooklyn's gain is whose loss?)
  11. If you want a nice clean list---go here: https://development.ohio.gov/files/research/B2001.pdf The PD advertising spread is annoying and is STILL loading. Very poor layout planning on behalf of the pd....
  12. ^How very annoying of the PD--couldn't they just use a table? this isn't clickbait as its all one page----its taking forever to load all those corporate logos.
  13. The justice center screens people entering with metal detectors. If that's their MO, it could be difficult to have the courts as a major tenant mixed with regular office tenants for whom their visitors would be hassled by the screening.
  14. ^I tried to upload it but it never seems to appear---though I don't get any error messages.
  15. Here is Cleveland's Amazon HQ2 bid, but the $$$ incentives and other parts are redacted.
  16. ^why didn't it get recorded by Guiness, if that was the goal of the organizers?
  17. ^#1 is Detroit. Thank God for Detroit! (such a stupid list....)

Just curious, how much and what did Cincinnati offer?
  19. Pugu replied to Columbo's post in a topic in Sports Talk
Those are dismal numbers. But I would attribute it to poor marketing. For example, I had no idea of a USA women vs China game last night and I generally stay on top of all events going on in town. I see no media coverage before the games alerting the public and no real effort by others. With 3MM people in Cleveland, it should not be hard to fill a 60k seat stadium. Its that very few people know about these opportunities. That said, CLE would definitely sell out a World Cup game or two....

^Yeah, looking at the list of cities selected (e.g., Cincinnati, but not Cleveland) I thought that something shady was up, especially knowing the corruption of FIFA.....not sure how clean the US committee is either given the published list of cities.
  21. Pugu replied to Cygnus's post in a topic in Sports Talk
FIFA announced that the 2026 games will be in US-Canada-Mexico. in the US, some 20 cities are listed as possible sites--to be whittled down to 16 in a few years. Cleveland did not make the cut--but Cincinnati did. Is the US committee as corrupt as FIFA? Was it pay to play and CLE didn't pay enough?
  22. why is the State investigating? Is it because E CLE lacks the personnel to do so or because they lack the ability?
  23. ^Yeah right, Columbus and Indianapolis are bigger than Cleveland. If you remove parts of the Cleveland metro--like twinsburg where there's a lot of manufacturing--and other parts, you can achieve this fiction like you show above.
  24. There are a few photos of 515 Euclid from David Petkiewicz of the PD from the 58th floor of Key Tower. You have to scroll down a little bit to see them. Go to: https://www.cleveland.com/expo/erry-2018/06/6db63bb51a7808/88_awesome_telephoto_views_fro.html#incart_m-rpt-2
