Cleveland: Population Trends
Does the census bureau release estimates by the census tract level or just city-wide? would be interesting to see the pop estimates for downtown and certain neighborhoods.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Just learned Latitude closed from this article: "Detroit Shoreway to Welcome Flight Cleveland, a Wine Shop and Bar, This Fall... a wine shop and bar, in the former home of Latitude 41n (5712 Detroit Ave.) in the Detroit Shoreway neighborhood." Anyone know why Latitude closed? I used to go there a lot. Then one day, I noticed the prices were higher, the food didn't taste good---just okay, AND everyone I ate with felt a little ill within a hour or so, but no one threw up. So after that, I never went back. I thought maybe they changed kitchen staff or ownership or something. But now I see they've shut down? Very curious if anyone has any details. According to Scene: "According to neighborhoods reps, the lease had expired and Brown will be transitioning into a different career path. (Messages to Brown went un-returned.)" https://www.clevescene.com/scene-and-heard/archives/2018/04/05/after-11-years-in-detroit-shoreway-latitude-41n-will-close-this-sunday If anyone knows the story, would love to hear it. Thanks.

2018 Ohio Secretary of State Election
^I assume they got it off some Democratic list. I think I gave to Obama. I certainly didn't sign up to get lots of campaign mail from lots of candidates (which I'm getting---not just Kathleen Clyde).

^I didn't sign up for anything. Re context, see my post above about reading subject lines when you get an email from someone you don't know.

2018 Ohio Secretary of State Election
What you say about Lauren may be true, but I did not misread it. Here's the email exactly as I got it: From: Lauren Durham Subject: My daughter, Kathleen "Dear Paul -- I loved reading Kathleen’s dad’s email, and wanted to make sure you had a chance to read it too -- see below. Kathleen’s birthday weekend is almost over, and it’s your last chance to give! Contribute here: actblue.com/kathleen_birthday Thank you for being on this team, and thanks for helping make Kathleen’s birthday a special one. Best, Lauren Campaign Manager" How else could you interpret this message? In short: From Lauren about "my daughter" signed, Lauren, Campaign Manager. ...so half of a "political power couple" or not, this is very sloppy work. Most people that would just see that may dismiss Kathleen outright without taking the time to explore this matter as I did here. And I only did so because I was so baffled.... Sloppy campaign work ultimately reflects badly on the candidate. I would never look at this and assume that Lauren is her mother. The subject is "My daughter, Kathleen" which is what her father's email was about and this email is about that email. As straightforward as it gets. If her subject was "The Email, 'My Daughter, Kathleen'" or "Bob Klyde's Email: My Daughter Kathleen" I'd agree with you. But it wasn't. If someone sends an email under their own name, then what is in the subject line can be assumed to be related to the sender. If I sent you an email--and in the subject line, I wrote, "My Schedule Next Week", you would assume I was referring to a movie or something else about a schedule and not MY schedule next week? The only way your comment makes sense is if you know the sender and know the subject line doesn't relate to her---but as a general rule you cannot assume everyone knows everyone, so proper English or proper wording must be used.

2016 revenues for the cleveland clinic were $5.6B so it would be #400-something.....Oh wait, the Cleveland Clinic is officially 'non-profit'......

The Plain Dealer, unfortunately, is no longer a very reliable source these days. They've cut too many writers and editors, I find it painful to read, as I find a factual error or grammar error in just about every single article.

2018 Ohio Secretary of State Election
In my inbox I get emails from the campaign of Kathleen Clyde for Secretary of State. I don't know much about her, but she looks pleasant enough. I get a lot of emails though---kindof annoying. Then yesterday, I get one from her dad: "I’m Kathleen Clyde’s dad, Bob, and I’m so glad that you are supporting my daughter’s campaign..." Then today, I get one from her mom: Subject line was "My Daughter, Kathleen"--I loved reading Kathleen’s dad’s email, and wanted to make sure you had a chance to read it too..... Lauren, Campaign Manager" So Daddy writes an email about his little girl and her mommy is her campaign manager. Is she running for President of Elementary School Student Council? I thought the dad email was a little weird but let it slide---only to see that her mommy today is her campaign manager? WTF? Her mom may be a brilliant campaign manager (actually we can now say she's not), but this candidate doesn't have to tell the world her mom is her campaign manager. This is the best Democratic candidate? Its really embarrassing and very unfortunate for Ohio. She ran unopposed this month in the Primary. On the email, if you click on her big logo, it doesn't go to her campaign page to learn what she's about, it instead goes to actblue.com a site where you can give her money and on which there are no links to her site to see what she's about. I don't think she's being half-ass I think she's utterly clueless--and her mommy too. Anyone else find this horrendously bizarre? What gives?

Cleveland: One University Circle
Will any of of UC3 be for-sale units or just more rental units? I know for-sale units are harder to finance, but there is demand among buyers--and the lack of for-sale housing is keeping a lot of people out of these neighborhoods. I for one would be interested in buying a place Downtown or in Ohio City, but there's no way in hell i'd blow $24-36K away in rent each year. I'm sure its the same with many others for UC.

He would have to use CLE--I don't think they could land AF1 at BKL unless it was some sort of crazy national emergency. Runway is not long enough and can't support weight. They have, in the past, landed at CLE and boarded Marine 1 for the quick trip to BKL. Minor factoid: AF1 is not a 747; it is whatever plane the President is using. Sometimes a 757 is used, which could land at BKL. Yes. Any service carrying the president is labeled "1" so AF1, Marine 1, Army 1, etc.

2018 Gubernatorial Election
"in the late 2000s." You mean like the year 2950? Just kidding. "Columbus had a handgun ban in the 2000s but it went away sometime" It didn't passively 'go away'---Cordray fought to prevent Columbus from having such a law.

2018 Gubernatorial Election
My eyes roll so hard when progressives say they're voting against Cordray specifically for this reason. I was (still am) a big Bernie Sanders supporter and I will be voting Cordray. He's progressive and he also knows how to get stuff done and relate to the common person (which is unfortunately uncommon). He has the support of Elizabeth Warren and has an excellent record of standing up against corrupt financial institutions. Yes, he's more moderate on guns, but people seem to forget that Bernie was also moderate on guns which is why it's a little strange that the Bernie-supporting wing of. The CFPB chief is not a position that the NRA rates, and if Cordray was to be re-rated again, I guarantee he'd probably get a C at the absolute most. Cordray is still pro gun control - he just doesn't beat that drum as hard as some do. Remember, Ohio is a very moderate state which has only grown more conservative in recent years. Trump won Ohio by 8% (compare that to 9% in TEXAS). We need a candidate who is both highly qualified and also able to appeal to more moderate voters and Cordray is the person who can do that. This absolute gun purity test is a good way to keep holding Democrats back from gaining in Ohio. The City of Cleveland had a law on its books from 1991--27 years ago---banning assault weapons in the City of Cleveland. Cordray fought--successfully-- in Ohio Supreme Court to overturn that AND to prevent Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus and other cities from creating laws in their own cities about guns. He claims Dennis brought about the financial disarray of the 70s, that's absolutely not true. Kucinich is a more passionate leader--and while I agree that Cordray may stand up better against the GOP, Kuninich is the better candidate.
