^edale, Cleveland is not "Ohio". Cleveland can support high rising housing and its currently all over the city, and there at least 2 or 3 projects in the works as we speak. At least on this website, such generalities are not meaningful and they do not characterize a place or its projects and capabilities.

MOST people I know would not drive to columbus or pittsburgh or detroit for an ikea. Ikea would still stand to make more $ by opening a CLE store, even though it may impact Detroit and Pittsburgh (and Columbus if people go there) a tiny bit, as the net number of new customers would be profound. Stores make money on repeat customers. For the 3MM people in CLE, going to a store in CLE could be done every month or so. But those 3MM people, who may drive to Pitts/Detroit for a few items, will do that only when big purchases are needed---thus would bypass the frequent purchases of all the little stuff that Ikea sells plus all that frozen food by the cash registers. In other words, I assume IKEA knows all this, and thus a CLE store is still in their planning.

IKEA wants to be as close to the core as possible in Cleveland--even if the Pittsburgh and Detroit stores are out in the boonies.

UA used to fly CLE-HNL on a 747 during their first hub days.

"Our partnership has helped to create more than 11,000 new jobs...in 2016 alone." That's very impressive--especially when compared to the numbers Waltermire's TeamNeo used to put out---stuff like 60 or 70 jobs the previous year.....(not that low, but you get the picture!)

FAA ops site can give you operations data by aircraft type (military, airliner, commuter jet, etc.) and flight type (itinerant or local) by month. Re Ultimate, their numbers are strong and steady; 70% load factors in May.

^p.9 of the DCA report---hotel occupancy in 2016Q3--77%---is the same as 2016Q2? With the RNC, shouldn't Q3 be higher? Also 43% for 16Q4--i don't know why they don't show 15Q4 for an honest comparison, 43% looks pretty bleak.

Not just jobs but jobs of all kinds that people work beyond just 9-5. Only two TV stations are in downtown proper I think--channel 3 and whatevers at 12th and Chester. The Plain Dealer IS there (Skylight office tower), CPD HQ, other restaurants, hotel workers....but not many others esp the creative/media workers which are not necessarily 9-5. I liked Noodlecat--thought it was a little pricey for the quantity--though that never stopped me from going there. But, I too, witnessed a usually pretty empty place during the times which I've been there.

^Are you saying UA is moving aircraft between companies or just awarding these companies more/less routes? I thought these individual companies (ExpressJet and CommutAir) each own their own fleet and UA contract with them (as do other airlines). Please clarify.

^You'd weep more if Reed or Jeff Johnson wins. I hope that the polls are accurate. Frank, though not the most visionary guy and has his weaknesses, is really the best of the lot we have.

Other than Detroit, Buffalo is the only city that Cleveland can make fun of.....just kidding. But its relevant: if BUF were to get int'l air service before CLE, while Cleveland metro is 4.5M people, it would be devastating blow to cleveland.

Robert Kennedy (head of Port Control) still has the same air service guy that Ricky Smith had who has consistently failed to land any TATL service after CO pulled CDG and London. Even when UA finally announced they were closing the hub---which he had years of advance notice to get something in the works--he had nothing. Jackson will probably win the election. But if he doesn't, the new director will also be out unless he can quickly prove he's capable and the best way to demonstrate that is bringing in daily non-stop service to Europe. And Cleveland is the largest market of all of these. So much for the new director bringing in competent air service development people..... Give him some time. Cleveland Hopkins is definitely heading in the right direction. Norwegian has mentioned Buffalo, Memphis and Pittsburgh (again)! Air Lingus has mentioned Pittsburgh (again)! Emirates has talked about Buffalo. BA has talked to Columbus and St. Louis. Meanwhile I never hear any airline outside of the US ever, and I mean ever, talk about Cleveland. It's like it doesn't exist. He's been in the office for a decent while now and Cleveland may be the odd man out on that short list. The "IKEA hole" is growing.
