Cleveland Mayoral Race 2017
Some comparisons by Cleveland Magazine, though only of six of those running. Jeff Johnson, Ward 10 councilman Campaign in a Sentence: “Public dollars has to go into the neighborhoods.” If that is an accurate quote, he can't even get his grammar correct. Comparing Jeff Johnson to Zach Reed, Zach's profile comes off much better and Johnson more like a fool--including his talk of a $15 minimum wage. Zack Reed, Ward 2 councilman Campaign in a Sentence: “Nothing stops a bullet like a job.” I don't support Reed, but I do think that that's a pretty crisp statement. (Don't know if he knows how to create jobs, though!) Here's the story: https://clevelandmagazine.com/in-the-cle/politics/articles/the-race-for-cleveland-mayor-has-gotten-crowded

^But just so there is no misunderstanding or tradename infringements, we'd better go with "Nuclear Duck".

^In addition to CMA's library, it would reallllly cool if there were some housing (apts/condos) and a cafe, a bar/tavern, a restaurant, and a few retailers (art supply store?) on that giant site as well. UC--even with CWRU--still needs a little more street-life and it certainly needs food places by the museums that people can hang out at before or after going to the museum like you can in other cities in the world (other than the food hidden INSIDE of these institutions--actually WRHS has no restaurant, not sure about Botanical Gardens; Natural History does have food--and its good). Do the current plans call for any of this?

Cleveland: Worthington Yards (Warehouse District)
^More to my point above: Suite Beds Baths Sq Ft Pricing 203 3 3 1,855 $2,925 206 3 3 2,003 $2,850 (https://www.worthingtonyards.com/availability/) There's no way I'd pay $36,000/year to live there with only throwing that money down the toilet, but I would certainly entertain a mortgage payment of that amount if I was the owner. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way. There could be a lot more people living downtown if not for this exclusion of people who want to own.

^made up of four bldgs, according to the site. too bad just one could not have been condos. There are people who would like to live Downtown but are not going to throw money away in rent. (I know it could be converted later, but generally condos are built to higher specs than apt buildings.)

I'd rather see many other banks or a new CLE-based bank than evil Wells Fargo setting up shop here.

Cleveland Mayoral Race 2017
^Careful what you wish for. I agree that Jackson lacks vision and strong leadership, but he's a known quantity. If Zack Reed or Jeff Johnson are elected, this town will turn to crap and be the next Detroit. All this investment and momentum will be gone, and could ruin us for decades.

^"the labor pool grew by an even larger number - just under 17,000" thats a big change for one month (or is that YoY?). Is this people suddenly 'looking for work' and thus filing for unemployment or did the population of workers actually grow?- Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
^You think this is accurate? It seemed like things were picking up.- Ohio: General Business & Economic News
^on the link i posted above, they also did a survey of Americans labeling the European countries.....nothing to be proud of!- Ohio: General Business & Economic News
^Regarding finding 'ohio' on a map, this is fun: someone gave a bunch of Brits a map of the US and asked them to label the states: https://www.buzzfeed.com/robinedds/its-thanksgiving-so-we-asked-some-brits-to-label-the-us-stat- Ohio: General Business & Economic News
^that's okay--outside of Ohio, more people know where Cleveland is than they do Columbus.- Cleveland: Tremont: Development and News
^The 'before' color is much nicer.- Cleveland Mayoral Race 2017
from the article: "But in 2007, Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Nancy McDonnell granted an expungement that cleared the way for him to hold office." Why did Nancy McDonnell do that? Could this be looked at? Could the expungement be reversed? I had thought his conviction was overturned. But it turns out it wasn't---he's still guilty---only his record was expunged. He shouldn't be allowed to run for any public office in the US.- Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
I read the article above. Why should tenants pay for property tax? Or does merchant own (condo-style) his/her unit? Otherwise, property tax is something paid by owners---who build this into the rent. And rent levels are fixed by a lease agreement.- Cleveland: Downtown & Vicinity Residences Discussion
^Aren't 1 Univ Circle, 515 Euclid, and Playhouse Sq evidence that CLE can support new construction for residential?- Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
^good article!- Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
^and the people of Beachwood support this. But its not difficult to avoid such places as I don't live near them. So when looking for restaurants I just naturally skip over anything in Beachwood, not that there's many worth traveling specifically to anyway---so its not really an active or deliberate 'boycott', just a passive one..... I only mention it here, because others may feel the same way, so that may be why restaurants in Beachwood are failing now. Then again, restaurants are tough businesses, so it may be completely unrelated.- Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
^Maybe, but I doubt I'm the only one in this region who boycotts Beachwood businesses given the population's decision to support such absurdity. (he didn't declare he was taking two public salaries after he was elected. he was RE-elected while doing this and Beachwood residents knew this.) If I support a Beachwood business, the city takes its cut. Why should I pay for this and support such a community. If any mayor should be the highest paid in this state, it should be Cleveland, as its the most important city in the state (yes, I know Columbus has more population), but Beachwood's mayor probably makes 2x what Jackson does---who does far more than 2x the work (or at least has more than 2x the responsibility).- Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Re the restaurants in Beachwood, maybe people--at least those who don't live--and vote--in Beachwood--refuse to support a city and its bussineses whose mayor takes home two public paychecks. That's pretty shameful that the mayor does it and that the residents knowingly allow this by re-electing him. As a result, I certainly don't and won't support any business in Beachwood until this guy is gone. For those unfamiliar, the mayor of Beachwood, Merle Gorden, says he deserves two paychecks (totalling $240k), and Beachwood residents apparently agree. ^I agree. And to remain a major global player, we need projects like this. Skyline--as superficial as some may believe it to be--is still a critical piece of the pie. - Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
