From the article: "Northeast Ohio has something any city would love to have, a vast expanse of freshwater at its doorstep. People and buildings come and go, but Lake Erie is here forever" Wow. This statement is such a F@#$% You to the city of Cleveland that the PD has been doing it so long they don't even realize it, as this is supposed to be a positive article. "_______________ has something any city would love to have..." Clearly the name of a city belongs in the blank. Not a state, not a country, not a region. A city. But so many people have bought into the idea that the Cleveland is such a S#$#hole, that the word cannot be spoken, and it must be replaced by a euphemism: "Northeast Ohio". No pride, only shame. Rather than spreading the message of all good that is cleveland, they say "Northeast Ohio"----which to many people--especially outside the US--haven't got a clue what that means. It might mean "Cincinnati" or No city--just an area. After all, if there was a city there, why not mention it, as that's what drives economies. "Southern Illinois" may make sense as there's no well-recognized city there. But could you imagine if Chicago gave up "Chicago" and instead said, "Hey visit Northeast Illinois! We're so great!" It would be pathetic. And its exactly what so many in this city and this region do. And, the PD helps reinforce this nonsense. And now, when the 'fill in the blank with a city name' comes along, they can't bear to say "Cleveland" so they say a place that is not a city. Another thing really out of control about the article---it suggests one should never go to Nuevo Modern Mexican Restaurant unless you want to get robbed or killed. Take a look at the photo---a place with 8-10 cops outside---does that look like a safe place?- Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities

^How stupid. And bad for the retailer as it limits the profit potential by minimizing the number of customers. I hope common sense will prevail here....- Cleveland: Downtown Office Buildings Updates
^that's precisely what I'm saying---we need street-facing retail (shops/restaurants)---not shops within buildings--and almost all the post-1960 bldgs--from Key to BP to Erieview--to anything at the Clinic--creates just a wall of brick to people on the sidewalk. We need to change that. I was responding to KJP who was suggesting that just by having 2 25-story bldgs instead of one 50-story bldg, that there would be street life. There won't be unless retail is built on the outside of the building facing the sidewalks.- Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion

I agree we have lots of horizontal space. But its a lot harder to get one 80-story bldg than two 40-story bldgs--and an 80 story bldg makes a bigger marketing impact for the city. Plus, the timing may such that we could get an 80-story bldg now, but not later: we have two major CLE firms with HQ space needs looking for space at the same time. So i'd rather we maximize the current opportunity and push for a new bldg for our skyline (which looks funny sometimes from some angles, as it looks like we have only three bldgs)...- Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion

^an african store would be very cool. Why do think it would be Sudanese--are there a lot of people from Sudan in Ohio City?- Cleveland: Downtown Office Buildings Updates
^I'd like to see an 80-story bldg---anchored on the lower part by 25 stories of Med Mutual, 25 by S-W, and the top 30 floors as CONDOS (not rentals), with a nice restaurant/bar on the top floor. If no condos, then 30 floors of offices....- Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion

You can buy imported coke from Mexico at any Giant Eagle. However, KJP is right Cleveland Coke---the only bottling plant in the US---uses sugar and not HFCS.- Airline Industry News and Discussion
" If they were not legally able to offer anyone more money to voluntarily give up a seat..." Of course they could---If they offered $50,000 they'd have 200 takers. If they offer $5, they'd have none. Clearly somewhere in between---maybe around $1100-$1500 they would have gotten one more volunteer. As far as i know, the government does not set a cap on this---why would they? "I'm convinced almost every airline is the same." No way. Amongst the US legacies--UA, AA, and DL--UA is by far the worst when it comes to dealing with customers and customer-facing policies. I do fly UA sometimes--as routes and schedules dictate. But when I have a choice, I will always fly another carrier and pay a little more to do so if need be.- Cleveland: Midtown: Development and News
^very bad for asiatown......- Airline Industry News and Discussion
He did the right thing. If he just sheepishly obeyed, there'd be no story and UA would be emboldened in their shi&*(&^y treatment of passengers and bizzarely poor customer service decisions. I've personally seen it many times and try to avoid UA when I can. The cops work the PUBLIC---not for any one airline. Cops know some things--like criminal law things--like when one person on the street has a gun pointed at another. But they don't necessarily know non-criminal things. I've had cops try to tell me some civil law things that were absolutely not true.- Cleveland: Downtown Office Buildings Updates

NOACA just a released a job hubs study---not sure if it goes into wages or not. It shows six jobs in the five-county Cleveland MSA. Here are the cities chosen over CLE. From the 2018/2022 bid by the US Committee to FIFA: "The 18 cities that have been selected for inclusion in the official USA Bid Committee bid book that will be presented to FIFA are, in alphabetical order: Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, New York, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Diego, Seattle, Tampa and Washington, D.C.... To meet the maximum number of 18 cities that can be included in the official bid book to FIFA, the USA Bid Committee had to eliminate nine candidate host cities that had remained under consideration into the final round. In alphabetical order, those cities are Charlotte, Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Jacksonville, Oakland, Orlando, St. Louis and San Francisco. Among the nine eliminated cities, four were host cities when the United States previously hosted the FIFA World Cup™ in 1994: Chicago, Detroit, Orlando and San Francisco." http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2014/03/17/12/38/usa-bid-committee-announces-cities-to-be-included-in-us-bid-to-host-fifa-world-cup- 2026 FIFA World Cup
^Yes, we did. It wasn't FIFA that screwed us--it was the US body. The US committee puts together the proposal to FIFA and in that proposal was the list of cities that would host the matches. CLE was not one of the cities. I'll see if I can dig up that bid. I have it somewhere.- 2026 FIFA World Cup
