October 15, 201014 yr Welcome talkwithmike. You should check out the Cleveland relocation guide which I believe is in the 'City life' forum. Maybe start a thread there about your relocation and any questions. Your not likely to get as many responses here. If your living downtown, Steelyard Commons is about a mile or so to the West. It has all your big box store types. There is a small grocery downtown on W 9th, but it is expensive. Tower City has mall-type shopping. The suburban malls are more popular though.
November 17, 201014 yr How about a +1 feature? Just something simple where you note your agreement with a particular post. It could even be opened up to guests.
November 17, 201014 yr ^ I thought I would ask.. what about adding the possibility of "liking" or "promoting" someones comment? Many times I have liked, or even just laughed at, someones comment. BUT I did not want to prolong the thread even more by posting a comment of "haha" or "McCleveland +1!" I would like to be able to show my support or agreement, without worrying about taking a thread off-topic, or giving the moderators extra work when thread-cleaning. If you want an example look at the comment sections over at Deadspin. A "promote this comment" button, which would publicly show my support of a comment, is what I want to see!!!! :) pretty please? *Scav promotes this comment* No, sorry. We tried the karma points one time and it went sour.
February 14, 201114 yr How about a macro for posting articles? Where you can just fill in the blanks on a form for Title, Author, and first couple paragraphs? I would post more articles of interest if I didn't feel it is such a pain to format them nicely. I know I can just post a quick URL, but sometimes I'd rather not post than be sloppy!
December 7, 201212 yr My topic is Cross Posting Many times an article may touch on more than one subject/topic. Example: The Cuyahoga County building sale. Many times I want to comment, but I don't want to write the same comment on multiple threads or have to search multiple threads for an answer because a poster wrote his/her response in one thread and forgot to or doesn't want to post it again in another thread which deals along the same topic lines. Or there are situations where people cannot find or are unsure where to post a topic because it crosses several existing topics. Is there a tool that would allow you to auto link a post from a sub topic/similar topic to the main thread so conversations can stay in one place are threaded and easier to follow. I know KJP often puts a "cross posted" disclaimer on posts, but as UO grows and projects increase, this could become tedious. I know there are many times where I want to post a comment or response to something, when I've already commented, on the same topic, in another thread. Then I have to go back to the first thread to find what I posted. I don't want the forum to become cluttered.
March 10, 201411 yr guess I'll post this here. Can we try to set some guidelines for The type of links we post? I think that, whenever possible, people should avoid posting links to mobile sites.
April 10, 201411 yr It used to be possible to create a list of the threads I want to follow. But I think that feature was removed when the server crashed last year. Is there any way we could get that feature added back in?

April 29, 201411 yr A new feature that would be great would be the ability to "tag" threads. The current organization of threads is very limiting (and ultimately confusing) since a thread can only exist in one category. But it'd be great if a thread could have multiple tags. Threads could be tagged with the city/neighborhood(s) and the topic(s) it pertains to. That would make it much easier to search through threads and would probably reduce some of the "cross-posting" and moving of threads that we've had to deal with in the past. Here is a link to the mod that would add tagging functionality: http://mods.simplemachines.org/index.php?mod=579
April 29, 201411 yr Have you guys ever considered something along the lines of a "Page 3 Girl" in the general photos thread?

I thought about it briefly, but didn't really like the implementation of that particular mod. I'll look at it again when I get the time.
April 29, 201411 yr There may be other better mods... but I think any tagging functionality would be better than what we've got currently.
September 11, 201410 yr How about for threads like the "Cleveland: Festivals and Events Calendar" or the relocation guides, the ability for a moderator or the thread starter to sticky the first post so it appears at the top of each page. I like the idea of these threads, but it seems I spend half the time clicking between the first post and the most recent posts to see what has changed.
May 14, 201510 yr This might be impossible or just silly but is there anyway to make the iphone emojis available for use on the forum? I got so used to them on my phone I find myself reflexively thinking of including them in posts.
February 4, 20169 yr If somebody posts a very large image, it blows up the layout of the page, forcing the user to scroll left-right to read each line of text. Can you force all images to display at a max width defined by the window size (with the option for the user to click to view full size)? Users should not have to scroll left-right to read each line of text.
February 4, 20169 yr I thought a plug-in was added that did this already. I occasionally see images with text reading "this image has been resized, click to view full sized image".
February 4, 20169 yr It seems like there are some situations where it rescales (which is preferable) and some that it doesn't. I definitely notice it and get frustrated when someone posts a huge image that forces everyone's text to be super long, requiring some side scrolling. I'd love it if that never happened. So I second that desire.
February 4, 20169 yr I think if you attach a photo, it will display at the photo's original resolution. If you embed a photo using the [ img ] tags, then it will resize appropriately. So... essentially we need to treat attached photos the same way that embedded photos are.
February 4, 20169 yr I'd love to see an option like unsubscribe where you will stop seeing a page show up in your "show new replies to your posts" if you have posted before. I still get Cavs updates even though I don't care at all. I've tried hitting the "unnotify" button, but it doesn't do anything. I even deleted my original message in the thread (something a regular user can't do) and I still get it if there is a new post and I click on the "show new replies to your posts" button. Any way to stop getting those threads would be awesome.
April 6, 20169 yr Not sure where this would go or if it should be a new subforum, but would love to see a place to discuss restoration/construction. A fair number of people on the forum have actually undertaken significant projects. I know there would be times that I would have liked to have a resource to ask a question (what kind of counter tops should I get? etc. etc.). Would be interesting to have that sort of option. (Maybe a single thread is all it really needs to be.) Heck, I managed to find an architect through UO!

April 26, 20169 yr Can we make an update that allows hyperlinks to break onto two lines? If somebody posts a very long hyperlink, it forces the width of the page to increase to accommodate the full width of the hyperlink, which makes reading the post very difficult since you have to scroll left-right for each line. This can be fixed by adding the following CSS to the div.post element word-break: break-all; Here is a screenshot showing how it appears currently with no break (causing the horizontal scroll bars): Here is a screenshot showing how adding the word-break property (shown in the lower right corner) allows the hyperlink to wrap to two lines (removing the need for horizontal scroll bars):
April 26, 20169 yr Any moderator who can update the CSS, here's what needs to be done: Insert new code after line 549 into http://urbanohio.com/forum2/Themes/default/css/index.css The new line should be: word-break: break-all; Here is how the CSS looks currently:

So... essentially we need to treat attached photos the same way that embedded photos are. I figured out a fix for this problem (which I reported previously). Can somebody with access to modify the CSS make this modification, adding max-width:100% to the .bbc_img element on lines 369-372: .bbc_img { border: 0; max-width: 100%; }
April 26, 20169 yr ^UPDATE: My proposed CSS fix will only fix inline images. For image attachments, I think you need to install a mod like this: http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=2206

April 27, 20169 yr Thanks so much richNcincy[/member]!!! This makes the forum so much more readable, now that hyperlinks and images aren't breaking the layout!

April 28, 20169 yr On mobile (iPhones), what's the best way to access "My Bookmarks"? I've tried the Tapatalk app and the mobile UrbanOhio website, and neither seem to support the My Bookmarks functionality. Or perhaps I'm just looking in the wrong place. Any advice?

The bookmarks feature is a mod and is only available on the default theme.
April 29, 20169 yr Ok - thanks richNcincy[/member]. I have found that viewing the desktop version of the site on my phone actually works best and lets me see My Bookmarks.
September 8, 20168 yr I just would like to say that this forum is very educational. Especially for a non professional interested in development.
December 27, 20168 yr The ability to change my username! I would very much like to have a different username but don't really want to create a new account for it.
December 27, 20168 yr ^You'll have to send an Admin (like myself) a PM requesting the name change. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
December 28, 20168 yr The return of Tapatalk support. Pleeeeeeaaaassseee. We're moving to a new server very soon and I will make every effort possible to add it back.
January 16, 20178 yr since i like to use a variety of different sized photos in photo threads i have a request -- if it's possible. i would like to see the 'preview' exactly match the final 'posted' version. for example, sometimes a group of three photos fits fine on one line on the preview, but then when the final thread is posted one pops down. it's frustrating, i can never get a handle on why that happens. thx ^ not sure if the new server changes matter for something like this - probably not - but anyway, bump!
February 14, 20178 yr There has to be a way to unfollow topics you don't want to see, right? There has to be. I can't keep seeing some of these topics in my "unread replies" section.
February 16, 20178 yr It doesn't work. I still get Cavs updates, Trump updates, etc. Maybe you can remove all of your current topics to receive email updates and start over from scratch.
May 29, 20178 yr hmm, i made a thread and previewed it and it was fine, but when i posted it all the pics didn't show up. of course there is a limit, but it was odd the preview did not match with what then showed up on the post. i think there is a bit of a disconnect with the previewing function and then the actual posts.
June 28, 20177 yr Looks like there is a mod that allows embedding tweets from Twitter - has there been any research into this? "It's just fate, as usual, keeping its bargain and screwing us in the fine print..." - John Crichton
