That theme is a no frills basic theme.  I might be able to add the search function but in the mean time just use https://forum.urbanohio.com/search  This will work regardless of the theme.

Could we see a new section dedicated to neighboring projects near state lines.  The most recent examples are the Louisville threads...these do not neccessarily belong in Architecture/Preservation, but I believe that there is still interest for the topics.

Could we someway start a new section for various news/going ons in neighboring states??

Just a thought :|

^ My idea was to stick them in Urbanbar.  I was overruled.

An "other states" section is an interesting idea, though.

Forumer of the Year 2006???

I'm ready to nominate!

^Is that an actual recognition??  I wasn't real sure, but how does the whole process work, do forumers vote or is it an admin thing??

  • 2 months later...

I just recently joined the world of cell phones with cameras.

Is there a function that will allow us to take a picture of something cool (or stupid) and upload it directly to a specific thread on the forum?

^I guess this is a "NO!"

:x

^You should PM RichNCincy with your inquiry...he will see it for sure there, and will be able to give you an answer.

Forumer of the Year 2006???

I'm ready to nominate!

I nominate Grasscat: Forumer for Life. Kind of a Hugo Chavez thing.

^ LOL!

That Forumer of the Year thing kind of fizzled out for 2006.  Nobody could decide who would run it.

awe..  I say bring it back!

how about people's pictures not being able to be video or clips or whatever.  I like simplicity.

^do you mean user's avatars??  I'm pretty sure thats what you mean...but just making sure, and to add on that they should all have to be Cincy related!

I mean avatars, you can have whatever picture you like, but the changing pictures can be distracting

^ We had to limit the size of avatars after the first few months of Urban Ohio because some were either way too large or were slowing down people's computers.

I find some of them annoying too, but if they're not affecting the performance of the forum then we'll just have to live with them.

(I was against sig images too, and look how that turned out....)

I often times leave UO up and running throughout the day...is there anyway we could get the Main Index page to automatically refresh every so often??

are we really asking too much for you to hit F5?

^Hey...just a thought.  No need to get defensive...just thought it might be a cool feature.

we don't' encourage thinking 'round these parts

Those are gif images and yes they are distracting, but allow people to be creative and have fun with it.

how about smaller signatures?  there seems to be a recent trend in adding larger graphics and lists to the signature lines, which formerly consisted of a couple of quotes, or links to web pages or other threads.  on a couple of threads today, it seems there is more signature space taken than the actual text of the posts.

Images in signatures are limited to a height of 60 pixels.  Perhaps there should be a crackdown on text in sigs, either number of lines or characters.  You're right, some of them are far too long.

A few things:

First, last week during our Future of Urban Ohio meeting at A J Rocco's, I mentioned to KJP that I wished we had a better search function - an advanced search, if you will. Before I made a random request (like I did before regarding uploading pics directly from a cell phone), I did a search on the Simply Machine add-on page. Since I could not find anything after a brief search, I figured there was nothing, so I did not ask.

Next, I was messing around with my profile and found I could add a script from Last.FM showing the last ten songs I listened to. I like all kinds of music and love to share new stuff with people, so I figured why not ( I also saw that it was being used by another forumer). Apparently, a few of you preferred not to see such over-sized tags. I have to apologize for missing the size limits on tags and I am more then happy to conform to that rule. This brings me to my next item.

Just a little bit ago, I was looking through my profile and accidentally clicked on the "Look and Layout Preferences" link instead of the "Forum Profile Information" link (BTW, why am I not able to change anything on that portion of my profile anymore? Is there a number of times a day you can change your profile? Am I being punished? Just wondering.) Anyway, under the look and layout area, I noticed a bunch of things I don't recall seeing before. For example, these options:

Show board descriptions inside boards.

Show child boards on every page inside boards, not just the first.

Don't show users' avatars.

Don't show users' signatures.

Leave words uncensored.

Return to topics after posting by default.

Don't warn on new replies made while posting.

Show most recent posts at the top.

Show most recent personal messages at top.

Notice the bolded items.

I also noticed there was a choice in themes. YES! I hate this blue theme. I prefer something more high contrast - all black with white text. But that's just me and I have learned to accept things I would otherwise hate. So I changed my theme (in case you are wondering, there are three choices - Actually four, but two are the same) to the Babylon theme and looky there - an answer to my first item: a very nice gui for and advanced search. Hurray!!

So now I have to ask - how long have these options been available? Was this why the site was down over the weekend for maintenance?

And now for a legitimate request: Can we the option to change the colors on our theme, please?

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Yeah, I've thought maps would be great for a long time. Are people still interested in this? I'd like to know geographically where the neighborhood lies that I'm looking at (in the photos section). Maybe you could have a map instead of the list of neighborhood names.

I already have a Dayton neighborhood map drawn out on my site. I have a Cincy one just like this I'd be more than willing to send along. I have nothing for the other 3 big cities though.

Personally, I think the site is fine as is.

Maybe I'll think of something later.

Are there any pics of Dayton in rotation on the home page? I've never seen one. Can we add some. Please!

A couple things...

-The UO logo no longer links to the main page, that was a great tool.

-The "Best of" page hasn't been updated with links to the new county seat threads by Summit Street (the city and county are there, but they don't link)

-The UO logo no longer links to the main page, that was a great tool.

works for me!

It should, then again you are using a theme that is used by 4 or 5 members, so I'm not sure if I even added the link to the home page.

Sorry, I just noticed this post.

There is an advanced search in the default theme, you have to click on the little magnified class next to the basic search box.

All the currently available themes have been available since we began using smf.

I don't think you are able to change the color of your theme.

You didn't. It once worked, however.

Are people still interested in this?

Yes we are still interested in this.  We do not have the time or ability to create the maps though.  If someone created the maps with the neighborhoods on them, we would use them.

I fixed it.

THANKS!!!

How about a third sticky for the SW Ohio Projects/Construction for "Random Nky Developments Thread"  This would allow the construction projects, that have been going into the growth threads, the opportunity to be in the projects/construction thread (where I think they better fit).  What do you admins think??

Show us a few examples of these "growth NKY threads" and we'll consider it.
