March 15, 201015 yr Columbus has gotten some good press from the Times travel section before. So, its great, but no big deal. I guess you’re right. It’s not the first time the Times has done a story like this, but as the article points out, the Short North art scene has been around for well over twenty years now; yet they found it necessary to portray it as some sort of newly-discovered exotic presence in Columbus, by making a gratuitous reference (along with “the occasional red Buckeyes football jersey in the crowd”) to the (gasp!) “preconceived notions of what passes for cool in the Midwest”–a backhanded compliment if there ever was one! So in typical fashion, the New York Times, while pretending to debunk a stereotype (in its inimitably condescending, patronizing way), only reinforces it. http://www.mainstreetpainesville.org/
March 15, 201015 yr Gallery Hop is obnoxious. Thousands of suburbanites packing in the street, parking where they're not supposed to, acting sloppy drunk and pretending they're sophisticated. Really good for the city but personally it's not my cup of tea.

March 15, 201015 yr Oh you see that all the time on High St. I love it. Fans coming together. Have you ever been to Eddie George's Grill? I was in there drunk, went to the bathroom and let me tell you this is the craziest bathroom I've ever been in. I'm over at the urinal paying my water bill and right in front of me is the bar with a bunch of people! It tripped me out for like 5 seconds (because I was drunk). Then I realized there was see-through glass right in front of me. Then I'm wondering like - wait a second, can they see me?! What the hell is going on? It turns out, you can only see one way; the other side is tinted or mirrored. Then I wash my hands and the sink is like completely flat, just like a counter top. I turn the water on and the pressure is ridiculous and it bounces off the surface and splashes all over me. Then I look up at the mirror and all the people at the bar are visible because of the way they positioned the sink-mirror to be parallel with the see-through mirror. What a crazy bathroom :-o I don't even like public restrooms, PERIOD. I can't believe they would mess with people like that.
March 15, 201015 yr ^thank you, that was a touching beautiful reminiscence (maybe that Times article wasn't so far off-base after all) http://www.mainstreetpainesville.org/
March 15, 201015 yr A condescending, patronizing article from the NY Times about Ohio? Seen that before. And we'll see it again - until the end of time! Again, nice to get some positive press, but its no big deal anymore for the Short North.
March 16, 201015 yr http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/15/arts/music/15scion.html More from the Times. It's more about the music festival, but also in Columbus....
March 17, 201015 yr There's no such thing as bad press. The more the word gets out about Columbus, the less likely we'll all have to follow it with "Ohio" when talking about it. ;)
