Posted March 17, 201015 yr Hello UrbanOhioans... for any of you familiar with Rocky River, do you know of any streets that begin with "W" in that city? I met this chick downtown and she told me to come over to her house, she is having a party for her 21st, she wrote her number and address on a flyer and I lost it. She is really hot and since I spent 2 hours with this chick and bought her like 5 drinks it would be a waste not to follow up, not only that but her friends weren't playing gate-keeper at all and were pretty cool... very rare. So yes I am in a man dilema, I remember the street began with "W" and the only one I can find is Winfield Ave... any other possibilities? THANKS! :-D
March 17, 201015 yr Wagar and Wooster are both long streets that run all the way N-S through River - and per the city map there are over a dozen other W streets in town, so I have a feeling that you're screwed...
March 17, 201015 yr YOU ARE *THE* BEST. I have a strong inclination to Winfield or Westwood or Wynwood... guess I'm going to have to put on my "sketchy" hat and go hunting. Thanks again I really appreciate it.
March 19, 201015 yr This post is hilarious. What are you going to do, drive up and down the street looking for a party?
March 19, 201015 yr Is this what this site has been reduced to? No..seriously...How romantic to think so much of her that you would post on here to find her! Good luck with this! I wish I were 21 again. Uhh..wait..no I don't!
March 19, 201015 yr I'm pulling for you. If you guys hit it off, this will be a great story to tell everyone about how you met! I just hope there aren't too many parties on 'W' named streets this weekend, or you may have some 'splainin to do.

I wish I were 21 again. Uhh..wait..no I don't! Umm, not sure if it is romance, FE mentioned that he bought her some drinks (please don't name the establishment if she was under 21) , I think he looking for a return on his investment...Just Kidding. This seems like a bit out of a Dos Equis commercial. "Stay Thirsty My Friend"... My wife and I figured out that we had actually met a number of times before we actually "met", once we even rode in the same car together to a party. She was crammed in the backseat with 3 other people and I was smashed against the dashboard with the seat pulled all the way forward. Ah college.
March 22, 201015 yr For the record, I did end up going to look for this chick on the three streets I pointed out... didn't see anything promising so I just ended up going to a bar on Detroit in Lakewood... VERY FRUSTRATING... until I checked my facebook on Saturday to find a friend request from a "Kara" from Rocky River. I LOVE BEING NAMED 'HOLDEN' makes me SO easy to find... good thing I don't have any mob debts. I will let you know how the "romance" thing goes... :) Glad I could provide some entertainment for everyone. p.s. I thought her name was Katherine so I am kind of glad I didn't find her on my own... would have been awkward, "Hey Katherine!"... "Um its Kara..."... "I'll be leaving now, is that the door?"
March 22, 201015 yr Not too shabby. It would have been better if you found her house, but it is still a pretty good story either way.
March 22, 201015 yr Will do so, but I have this to report about my travels to the West Side. I had "Westfield" on my list of possibilities... I drove down Northview like the map says and it didn't exist! I went over the highway, past "Westway" and BAM, Hilliard. Whats that about? I saw a gated community near where it should have been according to the map but no street sign and the community was named something other than something beginning with a "W".
March 22, 201015 yr Not too shabby. It would have been better if you found her house, but it is still a pretty good story either way. Trust me, me too. I had some serious momentum. Not to mention this chick was already drunk when I was with her AND it was her 21st b-day? She must have been obliterated that night. Not that I am saying that implies anything... just saying.
March 22, 201015 yr Well it looks like you survived your adventures on the westside and lived to tell about it. Which bar did you end up at?
March 22, 201015 yr ^"Chick"...I am surprised the few young ladys on this board are not up in arms (For the record, since I am an old foggie I would have used "broad" when relating this story, but probably only to friends or my secretary who is "very use" to me and my ways) Good luck.
March 22, 201015 yr Chick isn't any more derogatory than "dude," is it? Broad is now so old, it's funny to say it, not offensive. I guess if he'd have said "whore" or "bitch" I'd have been up in arms, but chick is just, you know, she's a chick, you're a dude.

Sounds like she is 21...just saying...you could have included holding her hair while she got sick to the story...
March 22, 201015 yr ^What happened to my response? (edit: I quoted myself, deleted) @CBC I went to this place called Melt Bar. I kid you not this place specializes in grilled cheese... those west sider's really have haute cuisine! haha jk couldn't resist. I think I'll pass on holding the hair... she had a few friends with her and they were nice so I am sure she was taken care of. To all the ladies, I use chick endearingly, no machoism here.
March 22, 201015 yr Have you seriously just heard of Melt? FYI, they are in the process of opening one on the E side.
March 22, 201015 yr Have you seriously just heard of Melt? FYI, they are in the process of opening one on the E side. Yep, at Cedar and Taylor. When is it supposed to open? It was also just on a show on The Food Network recently, Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.
March 23, 201015 yr Please tell me you are kidding about just hearing about MELT? What did you get? My favorite is probably the winter chicken.
March 23, 201015 yr Please tell me you are kidding about just hearing about MELT? What did you get? My favorite is probably the winter chicken. Beer! To be honest it was the first time I had heard of it... excuse my ignorance!
March 23, 201015 yr Melt is opening their eastside location on the corner of Cedar/South Taylor in Cleveland Heights. Whenever I drive by, progress seems slow, but I guess they're aiming for a late Spring opening.

To be honest it was the first time I had heard of it... excuse my ignorance! You are an eastsider...It's excused. :) Great beer selection there. I hope you had something good. Take the girl on a date there if you decide to pursue that further. The wait is a b!tch though, maybe get takeout and take her to Lakewood park over looking the lake.
March 23, 201015 yr I have tried to go to Melt twice (I'm an east-sider, too), and both times the wait has been over 2 hours. I went at off-peak hours (around 3 pm) because I had heard there was always a wait, but sure enough, I still couldn't get in (I don't wait 2 hours to eat ANYWHERE).
March 23, 201015 yr There's always a 2 hour wait, unless you go at meal times, when it's over 3 hours. ITA, I don't wait that long to eat anywhere, and sadly quit going to Melt because of it. I think eventually everyone will get sick of waiting and will stop coming, or they'll just attend the E side one, which likely won't have those wait times as they won't build the kitchen to be as small as a kitchen in a NYC apartment.
March 23, 201015 yr I think eventually everyone will get sick of waiting and will stop coming My grandpa always used to joke about places like Melt, "nobody goes there because it's too busy".

Was your grandpa Yogi Berra? My understanding is that the kitchen is definitely the limiting factor- they run out of grill space for cooking sandwiches.

Yeah I am not sure why he didn't expand the kitchen when he expanded into the second store front. The Thurman Cafe in German Village in Columbus has a similiar set up and situation. They expanded into the storefront next door about 8 years ago to basically to add new restrooms and a waiting area. The wait can be a b!tch too. Sandwichs are still good at MELT but the slaw isn't nearly as good (and spicy) as when it first opened. FerraiEnzo, I would also suggest the Beer Engine as a west side destination for beer and good food, usually no wait and they always have some interesting beers.
March 23, 201015 yr My grandpa always used to joke about places like Melt, "nobody goes there because it's too busy". Ha! He plagiarized and I never even knew it! You have just ruined all of my childhood memories! :P
March 24, 201015 yr This is a great thread. It start great for one reason, and now it's great for another... I love all you east-siders. You come to the west side and discover all these things that west siders take for granted. You do know there's an international airport over here, so you don't have to go to Pittsburgh anymore? j/k OK, I know many west-siders have no use for the east side either. But as someone who lived for 26 years on the east side and 17 on the west side, I guess I'm pretty amazed this east-west divide is still so strong in this day and age. We have lots more bridges between the sides of town, interstate highways and most people drive. Perhaps we should start up a new thread, something along of the lines of "Today I discovered _____ about the other side of Cleveland..." "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
March 25, 201015 yr Wow, I'm a little sad I ignored this thread earlier in the week. I find texting myself these sorts of details works best for me when I'm not sober enough to effectively navigate the address book in my cellphone.
March 26, 201015 yr I find texting myself these sorts of details works best for me when I'm not sober enough to effectively navigate the address book in my cellphone. I find that when someone hands me something hand written it is easiest to just snap a photo of it when I don't have time to type it into my phone.

March 26, 201015 yr ^I've been married for 10 years. I wasn't talking about getting notes/addresses from girls.

Sure....way to cover your tracks.... :) :) Wife checks your UO activity doesn't she....Just kidding of course, nothing makes my wife's eye glaze over by starting a sentance with " I was reading today on Urban Ohio...." And as far as the phone number/address thing I actually just jot any info in the notes section of my ipod touch.
