March 23, 201015 yr What a loss... which will be ANOTHER demolition which will have to occur on this stretch.
March 23, 201015 yr ^Seriously. At this rate, there's going to be more old stuff in Solon than in Midtown. Argh this stinks. Will be interesting to see if they rebuilt or merge with another congregation.
March 23, 201015 yr There's still a skeleton left that I saw from Chester while on the bus re-route this morning. I don't know if they'll be able to do anything with it, but I hope they can. Regardless, they will find a way to continue as a congregation.
March 23, 201015 yr This is very sad and this may sound radical but I would not put it past the corporate thugs at the Cleveland Clinic to contract an arson. Call me crazy and off base and your probably right but I don't trust them. After the HB building got torn down under the radar and the fact they have been trying to buy out all these old churches... whatever. What a loss.
March 23, 201015 yr ^Ok...your crazy and off base. Great loss....I feel for the congregation. Hopefully they were fully insured and can build else where (I am sure re-building something like they had in that spot would be cose prohibitive these days)
March 23, 201015 yr ^Ok...your crazy and off base. I would tend to agree with you, but nothing surprises me with regards to corruptness/shadiness/underhandedness (anything "ness") in this town. Your right though, most likely not... doubt still remains for me, and will regardless of "investigations".
March 23, 201015 yr Well, if they were going to do that, they have some cover, because there was quite a bit of lightning last night.
March 23, 201015 yr Seriously people... let's take this in a different direction. I just finished watching the news and the words "structural instability" was thrown around quite a few times. Looks like it will be a total loss. Awful. :( :( :(
March 23, 201015 yr Suggesting the Cleveland Clinic and it's executives conspired to commit arson is an accusation and one I don't think the admins and owners of this board want to be involved in.
March 23, 201015 yr I have to agree that while this is awfully convenient for the Clinic... arson is a serious charge and shouldn't be thrown around lightly. There's nothing here to go on but motive, and even that's tenuous. Did they have an option on the land or something? With that recent west side gas explosion, there was evidence of misfeasance on Dominion's part. Campus Partners had campaigned for years against the High Street bars, several of which all burnt down together and not in a lightning storm. This here isn't nearly as fishy.
March 23, 201015 yr It does say something about the history of the Clinic towards the buildings in its path, that we all assume the Clinic is either happy, or could care less about the destruction of the church. Adaptive reuse? Not really in their "green" vocabulary. For all the good the Clinic does, it seriously gets this wrong.
March 23, 201015 yr :-( http://www.newsnet5.com/dpp/news/fire-sweeps-through-church This was such a sad thing to hear about and see. I used to ride my bike past there all the time when it was warm and enjoy its beauty. I'm really going to miss seeing it there and I hope they replace it or put something memorial there! :(
March 24, 201015 yr Many in Cincinnati are still suspicious about the St. George fire in 2008. There were plans for a Walgreen's to take its place, it was bought out by a development corp run by the University of Cincinnati, then it goes up in flames just hours after a redevelopment meeting held in the church itself.
March 24, 201015 yr They are tearing it down. Most of the structure is gone from what I could see this morning when I drove past it on my way to my school.
March 24, 201015 yr This is intensely sad. Maybe this tragedy can bring the congregation closer together.
March 24, 201015 yr ^Seriously. At this rate, there's going to be more old stuff in Solon than in Midtown. Sure seems that way. At this rate, Cleveland is losing its historic distinctiveness. If Cleveland and Beachwood or Westlake offered the same ultra-modern surroundings, then why would I choose to be in Cleveland? "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
March 26, 201015 yr Suggesting the Cleveland Clinic and it's executives conspired to commit arson is an accusation and one I don't think the admins and owners of this board want to be involved in. And that is why the Admins and Owners will happily state that the opinions expressed by individual forumers do not necessarily represent the views of the forum management and ownership. When someone expresses a sentiment such as "I would not put it past the corporate thugs at the Cleveland Clinic to contract an arson.", they should realize that potentially libelous comments can have legal ramifications, and the Admins and Owners of this forum have no choice but to fully cooperate with any resulting litigation. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
