4 hour layover at LaGuardia - do I have time to get to the city?

Hey group

I have a 4 hour layover in LaGuardia on Sunday, do I have time to head into the city?

If so, what is the best way?

Thanks!

Where's MTS when you need him?

Maybe for a little time in Queens, but going into Manhattan would be pushing it.

probably.  I spent every other week in NYC for about 2 years and always flew into laguardia.  cabs are the easiest route to go.  they will most always try to take you into the city via the triborough bridge.  i find the midtown tunnel the easiest though i was also most always spending time from columbus circel south.  really it depends on where you want to go.  I always alotted 1 hour to get from the city to lga.  but that is a worst case scenario.  It can be done in 25m.  Being a sunday should help you a bit.

fyi. cab fare is about $25 + tolls & tip.  You'll pay a toll taking either the triborough bridge or the tunnel.  If you want to avoid a toll take the queensborough bridge.

The quickest I have ever made it into the city (by taxi) was 20 minutes and that was latter at night.  I would figure at minimum half hour (again by cab) so that is an hour there.  Also remember having to go back through security and trucking to your gate.  Always the fear of an accident or traffic back up.  I would not risk it for maybe 1-2 hours in Manhattan (and I would stick to the east side), but that is just me.  I would not enjoy myself the entire time because I would be a nervous wreck that I would miss my plane.

I agree, and will say it is REALLY pushing it although the fact that it is a Sunday is a huge advantage. Security getting back can be a nightmare depending on what terminal. If it were me, I would go to Queens and eat at one of the tasty ethnic places off the 7 train route (The bus that hits Laguardia can drop you off right there). I just tried to crunch similar numbers from JFK monday, and alas the math did not add up and I did not go.

Basically, no.
