Posted March 26, 201015 yr The eastern interior of Old North Columbus boasts some great destinations for those venturing off of High St. Here we head off of High down Duncan St to up Indianola to Arcadia and down Summit where you come across SoHud and Washington Beach. Further south is Iuka Ravine in East Campus/south of Lane, which is a rarity in the area for its relative peace & quiet. MAP Yes, Ledo's makes pizza. Never had it and likely never will. New shisha place for OSU fans. Very divey bar. Turns out it's a gay bar, despite the description I found that it was "mixed", unless they meant different kinds of gay guys. A former commercial space perhaps? Duncan is lined with speed humps. I don't need to slow down on my bike, but the parts of the edges have eroded from this winter leaving small potholes. Driver who went out of their way to block the wheelchair ramp. What a dick. A typical residential street off of Duncan. Yes, that is one blue house at the end of the street. Another random commercial space on Duncan. Now we're on Indianola. Couple shots of Glen Echo. Downtown SoHud. A large hookah joint. Wild Goose Creative hosts a wide variety of events. Old school dive bar from the not-so-good old days. A little corner park. Downtown Washington Beach Night Shot! Extreme Weiners operates inside of local dive bar Cafe Bourbon Street (you know it's a dive when the ceiling panels are falling on patrons) and worth it: better than Dirty Frank's. Yes, I went there. Now a few shots of Iuka Ravine from Indianola. See? Columbus is not flat as a pancake (in parts). And lastly Ruby Tuesday. No, not the chain: this is much better, but they serve live music and booze. I think there's a menu, but I forget (it's been a little while).

March 27, 201015 yr ReTagIt is a fun resale shop. They have all kinds of stuff you'd never expect. Like paintball guns and building supplies.
March 27, 201015 yr I had to look up wtf "shisha" was (sheesh!). In NY, as far as I know, at least in the E. Village, that term doesn't exist, although we have "hookah" bars aplenty. Not that I've ever been to one! http://www.mainstreetpainesville.org/
March 27, 201015 yr Seems like a soda/pop-like issue in the Arab world. Both terms are used here pretty much interchangeably. And yes, Taco Ninja is no more (no more free condoms with an order) and the new place is really good, so even though I never had it (and I'm glad I didn't from what I heard) I don't think it's much of a loss aside from the novelty factor. A google seach yields some good reads on the legendary levels of awfulness including this very thorough review on Columbus Underground. If they were to re-open they'd be a welcome addition to up-and-coming Franklinton which is lacking in late night dining options.
March 27, 201015 yr So...Hud...SouthHudson...oy. For a while in Cleveland (maybe still) realtors were trying to call south of Lorain "SoLo". Also very obnoxious.
March 28, 201015 yr I had to look up wtf "shisha" was (sheesh!). In NY, as far as I know, at least in the E. Village, that term doesn't exist, although we have "hookah" bars aplenty. Not that I've ever been to one! Shisha is the flavored tobacco that gets loaded into the hookah. I have never heard shisha used as a verb in the way hookah is (i.e. want to go hookah? Let's go hookah)
March 28, 201015 yr Designating the area "SoHud" is a local phenomena. Check out the SoHud Sound at the local WCRS website and there's the SoHud Music Collective. There is a development called Nobo (North of Broad) consisting of new homes built in King-Lincoln. I prefer "SoHud" myself. "Nobo" is just too much.
March 28, 201015 yr Haha, great pictures. A few friends of mine lived in that area on Summit when they went to OSU. I used to visit all of the time, lots of drunk walks back through that neighborhood from High St. And I'm glad to see that Ruby Tuesday is still around. We'd sometimes grab a drink or two there since it was right across the street. What a hole-in-the-wall! Owners used to have a gigantic dog, I believe a great dane, walking around the bar hanging out with the patrons.
March 30, 201015 yr So...Hud...SouthHudson...oy. CDM: You have a problem with the SoHud name, yet you're okay with Washington Beach? Columbusite: Great photo tour of a wonderfully eclectic area.
March 30, 201015 yr Who said I was okay with Washington Beach? I'm not okay with any names north of NoBo! :D "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
