Posted April 9, 201015 yr Maybe the weather had something to do with it but Sandusky left me rather depressed. By all the empty lots you could tell they have demolished a lot. Quite a few vacant/abandoned buildings. It just seems crazy that a city that attracts so many people with Cedar Point has a CBD that is pretty rough in some spots.
April 10, 201015 yr Yeah, the fact that it could capitalize on tourists but doesn't is rather sad. Seems more like these were taken at dusk than at night. I'm planning on heading up to the islands soon, but I'd rather go out of my way to take a detour in a town like Oberlin than a town that's en route like Sandusky. Still, we might take the boat from there if possible to Kelley's Island.
April 10, 201015 yr Agreed. It could be like a little arts town or something. A shame. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers

They want to keep everyone on their premises and spending money there, just like casinos. Look how much prosperity those bring to their host cities! :| It's been years, but the last time I went out to the islands, I learned the hard way that the best and cheapest way to go was via a ferry from Marblehead. We got on a boat from Sandusky and we were the only males on it who weren't wearing mint-green doubleknit slacks and Hawaiian shirts with white shoes and belts. The "music" they advertised was some old guy playing Lawrence Welk favorites on an electronic organ - loud, for the hard-of-hearing - and it was piped all over the boat and impossible to escape. We only survived because the bartender was well supplied with wine coolers. It was all about the boat ride, not the destination, and was slow by a long, circuitous route.

April 14, 201015 yr The Keller Building here, has been the subject of back and forth bickering. A plan will pop up to have the building revitalized, then all of a sudden the project will stop. Some of the bricks occasionally fall to the street (they actually had to close off a block of Water Street for a month or so last year for safety reasons) and then the building is commissioned for demolition. Then a group of individuals resurrect a plan to have the building restored again; things fall through....you get the idea. Personally, I hope it can be restored; but at this point (it's been crumbling for years), it may be beyond repair. I am unsure of the status of this building at the moment. Here's a link to a website with a video tour (kind of interesting if you have a few minutes to spare): http://eriewire.org/2009/06/02/sandusky-oh-the-keller-building-tour/
